Lane assist is dangerous
Exactly. So do not be a mumpty and just signal without looking while chatting on the handsfree or to passengers or while listening to the sat nav. Drive like you had to to pass your test and do not just be a crap driver. If to stop the wheel giving a nudge you have a reminder, to look before indicating.

@longedge You must see the gentlemen that have immaculate 20 years plus old Jaguars, Mercs, Rovers etc (some now have them on a much newer model) that proudly display the IAM badge on their car and sadly display their poor driving standards. Surely now in the UK with very different roads in some areas is the time at which you can get a Free Bus pass, which is much younger in London than in the rest of England is the Time a resit of a Driving test should be taken if one was not passed in the past 20 years. The standard of driving from some now with nice big and quick EV's is appalling. Also smaller, and many MG EV's. Some of those will be drivers in Motability Lease cars as Motability are pushing those. Thank goodness there is Lane Assist, Lane Departure Warning, City Assist etc as standard with those vehicles.

Rear Brakes
Sadly it is so common that the pads are reported to be down to 20% when actually that should be are down by 20% so still have 80% wear left. This is told to you by someone on the Service Desk, so by someone with a NVQ in Keyboards and the use of a phone. They have had the 'Up selling training', Fuel Treatment, AC Servicing, Discs / Pads need replacing. If the technician has to come out and confirm the actual thickness of the pads they can not. So if the pads are worn and need replacing before the next service then fair enough, but best actually inspect them first or have someone else do it. You do not want the Workshop Manager or the Service Managers spiel unless they are a Qualified Technician, they gave the up selling training. So they can get the Master Tech to talk to you, they can have a look at the Pads & Discs. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/484397-rear-brakes-after-19000-miles-very-crazy-place http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/462914-rear-brake-pads http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/472653-rear-discs

Lane assist is dangerous
When the Government had someone fly a kite about Lessons and Testing on a Motorway the fact there were none North of Perth went over their heads. Some nice dangerous Dual Carriageways about though, but somehow there are still new drivers around that never got taught on those either and then get on them for the first time maybe in the dark or bad weather etc. An HGV Instructor was saying last week on the telly that driver instruction and testing should be going on 24 hours just now and mixed between daytime and night time as drivers need to take HGV's out in the datk once passed their tests.

4 year service recomendations
Ask the mechanic what they think. I would whip out the plugs anyway and check condition and gap, and since doing that usually change them. Others will just leave them. Low miles annually i would change oil and filter anyway. Then stop using long life oil, not to save on the price of oil, but because Long life oil is not for use in Petrol Keepers IMO. https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/owners-and-drivers/servicing/service-plans/service-schedules.html If you are happy leaving it 2 years then so be it, but if you are doing short cold start trips there is condensation / H20 in the oil / engine and not getting burned off if car / oil not up to temp.

@AGFalco did you actually get taught to drive while a learner on a motorway? Know what you are saying though. My son told me he was taught not to indicate if there was nobody there. When i was questioning why Traffic Police in cars or on Motor Bikes do not indicate lane changes i was told not required on a motorway. My reply was no need to speed some place when you are only patrolling with no place to get to other than your lunch break. Also that when training others in your unmarked vehicles (Silver or White BMW Estates on the A92 etc) on how to get on in an unmarked police car or without using blue lights do not get worked up if driving up a vehicles back end and flashing your headlights does not make that driver move out your way immediately.

Servicing
Is there no VW Independent that has all the gear and more than an idea that can service the car. They need to have licensed equipment that can access the System and put the service on the record. Or the Service indicator can be rest for a year and just the oil change and nothing put on for this year. The Car left the factory set on Variable Servicing. So the car does not need serviced at this time as the Dealership well knows that did not reset the system to Variable. Your car will not be the only one that they did this to.

Electric Brake and Auto Hold....
Not that difficult, give it half the extra PS / Nm you gave your Superb and it too will be able to rip up loose tarmac.

Servicing
The Oil & Filter does not need changing, as long as they used the Recommended oil last year. VW 508 00 / 509 00, 0w 20 FS IV or even VW504 00 /507 00 5w 30 FS III which they should not of. So @ 2 years Oil & Filter if you want, & the Pollen Filter. You could do the Pollen yourself easily. If the car is going back before 3 years then do not pay next years for the Haldex Service or Brake Fluid Change. Do not be told you must, because Skoda have not got a Service Schedule, just Recommendations / Guidelines, and Skoda Service Plans do not all include, Haldex or Brake Fluid.

Servicing
The person that took the keys and had you sign for the service allowing them to do updates was supposed to write your instructions on the work / time sheet. Also to go inspect the wheels and body before accepting the car. *You can not get the staff these days, or the trainers.* £249 was the old price of a Major Service @ 2 years , but should never of been @ only 2 years old. ie 2nd service or 1st Major. As that included Air Filter, Spark Plugs etc. and even when not actually changed. It went to £289 before the changes in 2019/20. Oil & filter changes were £99 for a while. Interim Services were £169. Fixed Price Oil & Filter & Inspection Servicing is £185, and the pollen filter is £35, But that is on cars 3-10 year old on Fixed Service Intervals. EXTENDED SCOPE is each 3 years / 30,000 miles. £60 extra. Dealerships try taking the Michael.

Servicing
So they never set it as you wanted. So tell them that. If you are going to get an Oil & Filter and Inspection Service and Pollen filter done then that is all that is needed. Or a Oil & Filter Change. Best have things checked if you are not doing them. But checked at a competent workshop, not theirs. Or tell them to reset the Service Indicator for another 372 days. The Oil change is due at 18,000-20,000 miles from the last oil change since it has long life oil in. Pay them nothing to reset the Service Indicator, their employees incompetence is wasting your time,

Lane assist is dangerous
@KenONeillDon't go to Spec Savers next time, get a good eye test. I would think it was kind of obviously aimed at the member that posted about what their Instructor on their Advance Driving Coarse said. What i will say is that you should maybe try cars with some of the various new tech before decrying them. Where they can be activated or deactivated they can be very useful for different locations and situations.

Water retention in doors
It causes no harm to Dealership Staff. They have a car washer doing the cars almost every day and opening the passengers door and letting the water out. If you happen to have freezing weather for a while and are the kind that uses warm water to clear windows, or the car sits for nights and days with snow, then defrosting and freezing for a few days then remember to open the passengers door. The thing is the Engineers and designers might have cars built that lets water passed seals and into and out the bottom of doors, but they never meant the water to be stored in the doors if they are left unopened.

2016 Rapid - slightly oversized tyres a problem?
? Who at your insurers is happy with the limited info on the sizes seeing as it is just the wheel size you gave them , the call handler, the broker or the under writer? Everyone is probably happy until you might have a accident and the Loss Adjuster might just be laughing, they get paid to save insurers money. But as long as the speed and load rating are right maybe nobody cares. So many If's on running tyres not the size Type Approved for a car. httpS://tiresize.com/tyre-size-calculator/ Having an over reading speedo reading accurately with tyres bigger than OEM is something i like.

Electric Brake and Auto Hold....
Obviously it is engine power dependent. And a totally different 7 speed DSG. A 1.0 TSI is likely just holding 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd to higher RPM and maybe even spinning the tyres surface dependent and having TC / ASR cutting power or nipping the brakes. More noise than actual acceleration.

Different sized spare wheel.
Skoda Wheels are not the same diameter. 15" is not the same as 16" or 17" or 18". Tyres might be the same or similar diameters. But some that give it some thought do not care if there is a Speed Limit Warning on a Steel wheel with a new tyre fitted, they will still reduce speed. The Standard Spare Steel wheel might / will be a slightly different width, offset & weight and the tyre might be brand new so 'Green' and not at the right pressure unless checked. Some just are not happy to truck along at the normal speed with 1 odd wheel / tyre on a corner or even just on that axle.

Insurers demanding license images for all named drivers. What is this new bull****?
Sounds like a great idea. If people are in an accident they can take the picture of the other driver and vice versa. No use for the insurer if there are identical twins in the family and only one is a named driver. A delivery driver @ Edinburgh Airport taking a car from the Auction to the Transporter that crashed into me did not know his name or nationality and had to call someone that was the supervisor to give me false information. They were not happy at me taking their photos. Pity the Insurance Company they were with was the one that owned my insurer. They were stuffed when via facebook pics and my pics i showed them the person driving the car was not the one that was said to be in the accident. So it was no longer knock for knock, or my fault, it was settled quickly at no loss to me.

LED Day Lights
Welcome. ? Which country are you driving in? Skoda were not thinking about ugly, more about the law in various countries & other road users and angry road users. Like when someone has Daytime / Daylight lights on with Side / Position and Dipped Headlights, or with Fog's on when there is no fog, or Fogs on with Side / Position Lights & DRL's and Dipped Beam or even Full Beam is someone manages to have Fogs and full beam on.

Lane assist is dangerous
Those codgers that were 'Advanced Drivers' & might think they still are and still display the IAM badges really need to consider if their observation is as good as it might have once been. Many are having a joke still putting them on cars. Muscle memory of using eyes / mirrors and seeing before indication is a good thing IMO. Too many think i need not indicated as there is nobody there to see them, well they are often very wrong because someone on a pavement or on the road further on is waiting to see what they might well do. The first you might know is because a DRL goes out, or a cornering fog or headlight goes on. Lane Departure / Warning systems is sometimes all that stops someone going into another vehicle in their blind spot. When drivers are going to be retested because it is 4 decades since they were last tested or how ever long it is decided best retest those that were Advance Drivers First. Maybe that will save time if they can be told after 20 minutes, all very good there sir /madam no need to go on longer you are an excellent and safe driver. Using brakes to slow not gears and not indicating because there is nobody there to see you. 'Lets get your eyes tested and do the theory test, see how you are with signs and the highway code and do the the hazard perception test. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/371777-how-many-advanced-drivers

Octavia Estate VRS TDI 4x4 DSG vibration when accelerating.
The rear can be a rusty mess. So look. There is a thread in the General maintenance thread. Murphy,s law is that it will be the more expensive part. But fingers crossed it is not. Servicing and maintenance and visual inspections are the name of the game. Pre and post winter. EDIT, A bit older than a 2017, but same thing. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/481392-4x4-rear-propshaft-coupling-damper
