DSG gearbox and stop-start. In or out of gear when stopped?
@BoxerBoy In your (b) are you really talking about 'hill hold' (assist) or is it 'autohold' you mean? Same in (c), is that 'Autohold' you disengage and not Hill (hail) hold assist ?

High fuel consumption after servicing.
@automass 35 -37 MPG is pretty poor, so if you are getting a worse MPG than that now you need to look seriously at the car or maybe how you drive. Or is that with the car carry weight as in passengers?
-
High fuel consumption after servicing.
@automass What were you actually getting before the Service then? Not just what the car was showing as an average, but how far would 45 litres take you? what was the 20-30 miles less from? You never said what the MPG you get is. & what is the oil that shows on the invoice that they used if it is something different?
-
High fuel consumption after servicing.
@TheWandererSo what actual miles do you get from that brimmed tank? Do you even get 30 mpg if you were to use 10 or 11 gallons of the fuel in the tank? @automass The gear number is right there all the time regardless of what you have the maxidot showing. re your MPG. So how far can your can go if you were using 10 gallons or around 45 litres?
-
High fuel consumption after servicing.
@TheWanderer The car was sitting idling in the workshop for ages and it was taken for a road test. Or are we talking actual just a change in the range and not actually what was used while the car was in for the service. @automass The thing about your observations and accuracy with fuel consumption is that when your dash showed D7 you never noticed the car had 7 forward gears. Brim the tank and have proper calculations for how far you can go for however many litres are used.

DON'T buy a 2017/18 150PS, 4WD, MAN, 7 Seat if you tow....
There is an elephant in the room. That is where Skoda have the vehicles with the weights that the vehicle can tow, they do the CoC. Yet the vehicle has not the factory preparation for towing and Skoda Dealers say you can not have a towbar fitted because you need the extra under bonnet hardware. They say if you tow you can invalidate the Manufacturers Warranty. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/490961-2017-estate-upgrades-to-fit-towbar http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/487386-skoda-kodiaq-towbar-fitted-why-is-there-a-need-for-upgrading-cooling http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/489499-octavia-mk4-aftermarket-towbar

Octavia VRS (diesel) high oil usage issue
Actually the VW Group Owners Manuals talk about 0.5 litres in 1.000 km may be the oil consumption, and more in the fist 5,000 km. It certainly does not say 'On average' anyplace. "It may use as much as" Driving in the UK at NSL's without towing are not the conditions where 0.5 litres in 1,000 km is acceptable as the oil useage. So that is 1 litre in 1,242 miles. That is not the Manufacturers tolerance and is not acceptable. Regardless of someone at a dealership saying it is. They have published that for many year for petrols & Diesels with, 3,4,5,6,8,10 & 12 Cylinders. Engines have been replaced under warranty that used 0.3 litres in 1,000 km. That is following Official Consumption tests carried out correctly and when the Engine Oil Weight is 856 or 857 grams a litre, and not like when some muppet thinks it is 1,000 grams a litre. The owner of this car did get a new engine when pointed out how a tech did not even know the weight of oil even though it is in the TPI and in the old Dynamic Test TPI also. So this calculation was guff as many of the 300km tests were even when they knew the weight of oil.

Finding the correct part no. for dsg DM flywheel & clutch
Use the VIN number for your car and see what the parts supplier says about the parts you need for the DQ200 DSG your car has. ? Do you mean to buy the parts and you do the work? The Specialist knows the parts required if the are a Specialist used to working on DQ200 DSG's.

The dealer had one job... oil fail
The Area A on the dipstick is above the cross hatch area if you look in the manual. The dipsticks and owners manuals are crap. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/470119-check-oil-level-warning-query Cold levels are easy to check, and many many workshops are putting the measured quantity of oil in from a pump, not a bottle or jug. (That requires someone to select the quantity to be delivered by knowing what vehicle / engine it is and not just trusting to 'i remember' or they all take this much.). The @ operating Temperature / @ Normal Temperature / Hot check are the important one many Techs / Fitter / Apprentices get wrong. (We do this everyday, we know our job!. Crap is regularly spouted.) Many are sucking the oil out and then changing the sump plug and some are not changing the sump plug. Then many are not doing the road test after the oil and filter change and then checking the oil level and topping up if required.

The difference from the *Oil and Inspection Service.* and then carrying out the *Extended Scope* for an £60 is the things shown there even though they repeat in Extended Scope stuff being done for the £185. They are not doing the same thing twice. Very STRANGE LISTING STUFF AS PART OF THE £185 Service again for work as part of the £60 Extended scope. As to the Wheel coming off the car. Maybe they are and quite possibly they are not. Only visible belts are being checked. The parts other than the Oil, Filter and sump plug are all at extra cost. It is money for old rope. But then any Skoda Approved Used Car with a FMDSH at 3 or 4 years old should show the History of the 3 or 4 year 'Manufacturers Recommended Servicing done'. After all if you claim on a Warranty with your car and warranty they want to know the car was serviced to 'Schedule'. The T&C's say to Manufacturers Recommendations.

DSG gearbox and stop-start. In or out of gear when stopped?
Do not worry about the DSG. Do not worry about the battery as the stop/start will disable it's self when needed. You have the choices for different situations / locations. In D and let stop/start work. Have auto hold work. If you want put stop/start off. If you did want the car stopped in N and the parking brake on you can do that. If you want it in N and the engine running have that.

England EV Charging points, a proposal. & location & news on new charging hubs in England & Wales.
Hopefully not policed with the likes of the 'uniformed person' that is at Dunblane EV charging beside Tesco & the Train Station that tells people it is OK to park their hybrids for 2 hours at Rapid Chargers. Because nobody explained to him what the difference is between the chargers at that A9 Electric Highway Hub.

Regardless of it being a Skoda Approved Car and maybe FMDSH and a Warranty, you want to know what the Full Main Dealer Service History shows as being done. Is it to the Manufacturers Recommendations, So you want the Brake Fluid Changed before collecting the car if it was not done at 3 years, & the Haldex Service @ 3 years. Not just the oil change, did they clean the pump. If they can not show a Full Main Dealer Service History with all done, then they can Service it again.

Oil service
Pollen filter a recommendation because they have no idea where the car is used or when. Seaside, Countryside or City Centre with polluting busses with black soot coming into the cabin filter. You can remove it, vacuum it, blow it through and wash the area and put it back. or spend £15 or so and bung in a new one.

England EV Charging points, a proposal. & location & news on new charging hubs in England & Wales.
Not England, but Castleview Park & Ride Stirling will have lots of chargers and solar canopies. It is a great pity that while building the 32 charger bit they left just 2 chargers to use. they could have bunged in a couple more in the mean time. https://www.stirlingnews.co.uk/news/18674943.work-ongoing-transform-stirlings-castleview-solar-energy-hub Still not enough Rapid Chargers for those travelling the A9 North / South and heading to England or coming into Scotland. The Electric A9 is an absolute joke still for travelling in an EV.

SKODA Octavia 2013 (63 reg) 1.6 TDI DSG Oil Change
As long as all is well with the car and how it drives then no problem. If the oil changes were done correctly and because the owner just wanted them then good. But there was a Service Campaign '34H5' called in 2017 on some DQ200 DSG's from 2013-2015 to do a software update. This was a preventative measure because there were some failures with leaks due to heat or pressure. http://skoda-auto.com/services/recall-actions There were and still are garages / dealerships, telling owners that there DQ200 needs services / oil changes and others advising them to. More of a money maker for them really.

- fuel consumption increase - reasons?
http://hypermiler.co.uk/emissions/the-gasoline-particulate-filter-faq- fuel consumption increase - reasons?
@ords Well said. We will need to remember where this thread is so that it can get linked in the future. The fuel consumption increases & the GPF issues are going to be something that will be getting many questions on this forum and others and at dealerships. When the GPF's were getting introduced to all VW Group Petrol cars we were told they were not going to be a problem like DPF's, that they were totally different, were maintenance free, if needing replaced they would be cheap. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/473535-fitment-of-gasoline-particulate-filter-gpf-to-fabia-mk-iii So we get towards 3 years on and gradually we start to find that can be true, but might not be true for all. Basically VW Group need to have their Franchised Dealership Staff, and 'Factory Trained Workshop Staff, fitters, techs, master techs, workshop managers etc, and the service desk staff aware that GPF are not just there and nothing a owner / customer needs to concern themselves about. Customers / Drivers can be wasting time and money to put TSI's from 2018/19 on into have checked because they are using too much fuel, just to be told there is nothing wrong. Clearly there might well be 3,4,5 year old cars getting to the stage that if they were put through a retest of a WLTP / RDE the results would be very different from the vehicles the manufacturers had Certificated. It might be yet another VW Emissions Scandal for the future as some cars that are so new use much more fuel than they did from new and while under warranty. Owners might want to ask the cost of new GPF's fitted at Main Dealers just incase a car they have or a used car they buy will need a replacement.- Video, Bob Flavin drives 2021 vRS Octavia.
- Delay, DSG.
The usual VW Lost in Translation. It can hold on all slopes, but the pedal has to be pressed hard enough to enable it. You can hold the car on the throttle which they advice not to, or on the foot brake and not activate Hill Hold Assist or use the Parking brake. It can hold the car for 2 seconds, That does not mean that the cars has to stay there for 2 seconds if you press the accelerator. Same with Autohold really that you need not push the brake pedal hard enough to have it function. Reason i know is i have only one foot and drive autos, and have driven DSG's for over 10 years now. Try it yourself tomorrow and you will see that you can use the brake and not have HHA / HHC hold the car for 2 seconds as you go from brake pedal to the throttle. If it works everytime on a 5 degree or more slope that is a new one on me.- DANGEROUS Skoda Octavia emergency brake/crash assist, lucky to be alive....may not be so lucky next time!!!!!
You are raising a matter often raised in the past. http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/447049-automatic-braking- Parking Brake
The difference about Park, is selecting P on the flat or on a slope. Apply the Parking Brake / E-Brake before selecting 'P' / Park, and do not leave a vehicle held by the Pawl on a slope. It has been this way as long as there has been Auto boxes / DSG's etc. - Keith's 2015 Mega Hot Hatch Thread
