If it's a genuine spring, there'll be a sequence of coloured paint marks on it. From that sequence we will be able to tell you the part number.

If you still struggle, try slight rotations, if the flexible hoses allow, to break the stiction of the o-ring inside, then pull.

@hackingjam if you've ended up with a 6Yxxxxxxx window motor spare, don't bin it, they fetch decent money if working.

I would expect at least a click from the module, if the wire between pin 2 and the fan control module is unbroken, maybe check the continuity of that brown/blue one; pin 3 of the 6-way connector at FCM. Were all three of the fuses I mentioned OK? Check that you have 12V (always) at pin 1 of that 6-way and at also pin 2 when the ignition is switched on; while you're there. Both fans may have completely worn out and failed at both speeds; they are 20 years old if original. Brushes sticking in their holders seems to be a common fault, as well as the super-common low speed resistor burnout.

Which type of gearbox? Have you checked fuse 18?
