  1. All sound like replaceable items to be honest, if you're not afraid of getting hands dirty.
  2. I think my chainsaw and lawnmower are both going to be staying with E5, despite both being very recent engines. Negligible fuel cost increase. I won't have any worries about the 2003-2005 fleet of cars in the family though, any negative effects seem to me to be likely to be very slow-acting and therefore probably safely ignored.
  3. Strip fuse no.3 in your car I think, unless built very late in 2005, in which case it might be no.5 Check them all!
  4. No, would be my gut feeling, but I'd suggest listening to others' opinions on that as I've no personal experience of any PAS faults. Was it definitely your original rack that you got back?
  5. I think that data clears both charging system and battery from blame. There could still be an issue with cabling/connections between battery and PAS pump, but I suspect a fault with CAN wiring, angle sensor or pump module would be my guesses, prior to fault code reading of the PAS module. The reason I mention CAN wiring is that the PAS has speed sensitivity, and the way the module gets its vehicle speed info is solely via CAN data, as far as I can tell. If these two wires are compromised, I think I'd expect a fault light, but not certain. If they are problematic, a code reader may well come back with 'module unavailable' or similar if you do try to read faults out of it. In VCDS it's module 44, steering assist; not sure how that transfers to other readers.
  6. That article was published 18 months ago. I think we'd have heard a lot more about it in this sub-forum if the Mk1 Fabia was indeed so affected. I suspect an error in the article. The thread about this issue in the General Automotive Chat section is where mods are redirecting a lot of these flapping threads: https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/490693-e10-fuels/
  7. If the charging system is functioning well, the battery capacity should be almost irrelevant. Do you have a multimeter with which to check battery volts before and after starting the engine? Does the battery light come on with ignition? https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/401778-battery-light-and-associated-problems/
  8. Don't assume that black means negative, it virtually never does in VW group cars. More often used for ignition 12V, earths are generally brown.
  9. New replacement section doesn't need to be very expensive. e.g. KLARIUS 312045 CTALYC CONVERTER SKODA FABIA ROOMSTER POLO SEAT IBIZA 1.4 1.6 16V | eBay I bought one from ECP a few years back for similar cash. Not up to OE quality, but may be as long lived as the rest of the vehicle, depending on plans.
  10. 45mm as said. View my previous link on a computer rather than phone if you're not seeing the bit where it says the dual clamp is 45x95mm (ID x length). I've double-checked with one of two flexis purchased when doing a similar repair on one of my 1.4s.
  11. Could even be the brake light switch getting a bit resistive, depending on how/where the test current through the bulbs is monitored. Don't have wiring info for mk3s though, so no real idea. Seems a bit too young for such a situation to develop, but who knows?
  12. You can generally figure it out from the clamp size between front and mid sections, as the outside diameters either side of the cat are the same, usually. What year and engine code? Item 6 here if one of those codes: front silencer; rear silencer - Fabia(FAB) [EUROPA 2008 year] (7zap.com) Welding is nicer leak-wise, but trickier as the orientation of the two bits needs to be carefully maintained if done off the car because of kinks up/down and side-to-side in the overall run.
  13. It's used (as a volumetric substitute for fresh air) so that there is an absolute minimum of excess oxygen in the combustion chamber that could form NOx.
  14. ^ Fair point.
  15. You may (or may not) find a matching PR code on the build sticker in the boot with this number. It's one of the descriptors of the suspension type (one of a few).
  16. Here's one: Skoda Parts catalog - ETKA Online, Skoda EUROPA, original Catalog Skoda EUROPA (7zap.com) In fact, judging by the watermark across @langers2k screenshot, it's the very one he has used above. 5Q0413023FH doesn't seem to have been superseded by any other part number, although I don't have access to bang-up-to-date info.
  17. Please show me the page in the parts catalogue for Mk2 Superb where there's a 15" wheel? The choices are all here: wheels, brakes Superb (SUP) [EUROPA 2008 year] (7zap.com)
  18. No, that goes to the onboard supply control unit in the cabin.
  19. ^ Winds were predominantly from the North last week. Makes a fair difference.
  20. NOx isn't about poor combustion, it's created by good, hot combustion in the presence of excess oxygen.
  21. Strip fuse 5, blade fuse 8 and blade fuse 11 are all involved in your car. Yes, if the fans work at low speed they should both come on when those contacts are linked, if everything else is OK. If they don't come on when you link 1 and 2, turn on the ignition (engine running or not, doesn't matter) then link contacts 1 & 3 instead. This should bring both fans on at full speed. Mind fingers/hands!
  22. No. There is no ground connection to this module. How many radiator fans are there, 1 or 2? Which fuses have you checked? Have you tried linking pins 1 and 2 of the radiator thermoswitch loom connector (the contacts either side of the connector latch?
