The DQ250 six speed wet clutch DSG in the 2.0 is better and more reliable (as a general rule) than the DQ200 seven speed dry clutch DSG in the 1.4. I've got both, DQ250 in the Golf, and DQ200 in the Polo and were I buying, I'd choose the DQ250 all day long, even though our DQ200 has never missed a beat. Gaz

Second day of no ‘Low Battery’ warnings 👍 And another nice little bonus: With my scooter in the boot with both front and rear sections locked together (good for stopping anything moving or clanking together): I can get my folding bike out of the OSR passenger door without having to move the scooter 😎: This is great because yesterday I did a couple of laps of Sandringham on my scooter. And today I’ve cycled around Wells next the Sea, and Old Hunstanton 😁 Gaz

Just crossed over 34k miles, so brimmed the tank with V-Power. Got 69 litres in it, and the car’s now reporting a range of 630 miles. Think that’s the most range I’ve ever seen on a car of mine! It’s a very comfy mile muncher. At one point yesterday it was doing a steady 67.5 mpg - not just a flash, it was doing it over three miles or so on very nice flat roads around RAF’s Lakenheath and Mildenhall. G

Main battery is in the engine bay. I've read about some having a secondary battery but I've not found one (yet) - certainly nothing under the boot floor. Ta for the heads up on the alarm battery 👍 G

I had a nice day of car cleaning yesterday. Vacuumed the interior - proper vacuuming, not just the usual whizz around; took two hours, but the results are good. Then washed the leather, cleaned it (Gliptone) and fed it (also Gliptone). I'll give it another feed in a few days. It took a while to get the sticky residue off from the tax disc holder - looks like I've got a complete set of tax discs! I think the battery might be improving as the auto folding mirrors started working out of the blue yesterday. I've a 160 mile run to do tomorrow and probably 500 or so miles in the next few days, so that should be a litmus test. Although I did notice one chap on the Volvo owners forum has had the low battery warning for three years! One oddity I don't like. The analogue speedo is mph, but I can only have the digital speed read out in kph. I've checked and there's no way to change it to mph. Seems odd. Gaz

No, me either But I think it would have been daft to pass it up. It's now on my drive, with nice fresh screenwash. Tyres were at 26 & 27 psi, but are now up to where they should be - 38psi. Good inside clean tomorrow, feed the leather, try to work out how to change the digital speed from kph to mph (cruise is in mph, but the main dash is in kph - seems odd), and try to connect my phone. Diesel in the tank is going to be a year old, so I'm going to run that down and give it a tank of some nice fresh good stuff, whatever that might be. Gaz

Five years ago I moved on to a Golf GTI 7.5, so a Mk8 now might tick some boxes? I was recently looking at 272 Superb’s, but for one three years younger than the Golf, with the cost to change, I’ve kept the Golf and bought a Volvo V70. Realise that’s not the direction you’re going, but the difference in ride quality with the 50 profile tyres on the V70 came as a very pleasant surprise 👍 Gaz

Got driveway space for two, but a third would have to be on the road. I've had three before, but never four. Given the conversations with Mrs Gaz about this have got a little interesting shall we say, I think I'll quit while I'm behind. G

Just done it - £318pa with legal and RAC breakdown, which I thought was okay. Could've got it £18 cheaper without breakdown. Think it's about £60 cheaper than the Golf. Encouraging is the last thing I need! 😂 G

I went a bit left field, and have ended up with this: 2010 Volvo V70 D3 SE Lux. One owner from new (the seller), 33k miles, FVSH (Main Dealer), new battery and the only thing I could fault it on was slight perishing on the front tyres. And it was only three miles away 😎 it did 299 miles between its 2022 and 2023 MOT's - selling because it's not being used. All MOT's passed except for one in 2016 for tyre wear on one tyre. All journeys were long trips picking kids up from Uni, no short trips. I can get my mobility scooter in the back (seat off), with my folding bike, and not need to have the rear seat down 👍 Needs a good clean, but doesn't want for anything else. We'll most likely keep the Golf and sell the Polo. Don't need three cars. Gaz

Independent, all day long 👍 I've had my last two cars MD serviced while they were in warranty, and to be fair the Golf was MD serviced for five years, but it's now going to my trusted indy. I gave up with my local MD mainly due to trying to get me to have work done (brakes) that was not needed. And yes, expense was another factor. Gaz

Only just back - the bloody A27 is a dreadful road 🤬 When I put the postcode in my satnav, it said I'd get there at 2:45pm, but I got there at 3:15pm. Arundel and Chichester were the usual bottlenecks 🙄 Well I liked it. Both front wheels have been kerbed, minor stone chip on the roof above the rear view mirror, but it's only gone down to the white undercoat, not the tin, and that's about it. Two new tyres on the rear (Sunny make), front's at 6mm. DCC was on normal for the road test. I'm guessing having the DQ381 seven speed might make it feel a little less torquey than the six speed 280? I find it odd the lack of a reversing camera. The sensors were going bananas when I was a good three feet away from anything. Minor but: It's obviously on long life, because it has a Skoda first service in 2022 and then nothing until this garage got it. They've serviced it and change the haldex fluid. When I asked about the gauze/filter, their mechanic told me there wasn't one, and then started waffling about some 'aftermarket' kit...... blah blah, I stopped listening. They'll do the wheels, but won't budge on price, offering me £16k for the GTI. I didn't commit to buying it. I saw a Petrol Blue L&K up in north Wales for £21k last night, but the Autotrader ad seems to have gone, so I'm guessing I was too slow. Gaz

My Son recently had the same on his 2006 Touran. On double-checking it turned out he'd missed a blown sidelight bulb inside the headlamp unit. Just a thought. Gaz
