Hello from me
Hello Rik I went to buy a Blackline seven years ago, but couldn't agree with the dealer, so ended up in a vRS instead. Gaz

Adjusting cable disc brakes
Thinking it through, it'd make sense to move the calliper as close to the moving brake pad as possible, without it fouling the disk, then adjust the fixed pad into the disc, that way I'd be reducing the amount of movement at the moving pad and therefore giving more useful travel (i.e. less non-useful travel) at the brake lever. Time to get a replacement bolt first methinks. G

Adjusting cable disc brakes
Cheers Warrior - gap is critically correct, calliper lined up nicely with the disc, so everything's operating as I think it should. Just seems a bit inefficient that some of my effort at the brake lever and through the cable, is put into bending the disc. I quite like that it's all adjustable with a multi-tool when we're out and about. It's a great bike, very comfortable all round. I'm quite sure if I'd moved the throttle over to the left side, I wouldn't have had to pedal at all on the way home. Was 25c when I got home and felt hotter out on the Marshes. Gaz

Adjusting cable disc brakes
I've just bought a Freego Eagle e-bike, really to upgrade Sally's Wisper 705SE, but having ridden it the eight miles home, I'll be quite happy if she doesn't want it - 15ah battery + Grandfather regs full throttle = loads of fun 😁 But the rear disc brake was shockingly poor, which I presumed was just cable adjustment - it wasn't. Somebody has rounded one of the allen headed calliper retaining bolts. It's not a problem, I'll pop out for a new one later. The disc was a bit grimy, so I wonder if it's contaminated, along with the pads - there was a bit of copper grease on the outside of the calliper. The reason for the poor braking was at least in part down to the fixed brake pad adjusting screw being backed off too much. Having now adjusted it up, centred the calliper and much improved the braking, I'm fascinated with how the calliper works. With a fixed brake pad, adjusted in to close proximity to the disc, does the braking rely on the the moving pad forcing (i.e. bending) the disc onto the fixed pad? It just seemed odd dynamically, and I couldn't work out if there was something else going on that I couldn't see. This is my first foray into cable disc brakes - my Whyte has hydraulic ones where both pads move onto the disc. Gaz

Silica bag in coolant reservoir
I'd have done exactly the same, and with the advice you've been given, I probably wouldn't go back either 🙄 Gaz

E-bike
Interesting. I've just done pretty much the same circuit, albeit covering 23.2 miles. Started at 96% and finished at 48%. Perhaps the binding rear brake was having more of an effect than I realised. I did 16 miles yesterday on my Giant CS3 (analogue bike). It's better cycling weather today, but even taking that into account, I prefer riding my e-bike now, even with the power off. Will keep the Giant as I still like its light and nimbleness. Gaz

Lots of geese at the top of Shinewater lake this afternoon: And I got out to one of my favourite places - looking across to Herstmonceux Observatory in the distance: This is from New Bridge Road, near Rickney. Lovely road to cycle across the Pevensey marshes, just need to be conscious as to how close the waterways are to the tarmac. I've come a cropper before moving off onto a verge to let a car past, only to find it wasn't a verge, just nicely trimmed bullrushes, in water 🙄 Gaz

Deteriorating front tyres
Maybe Rob's secretly an unhinged getaway driver and the chunks are from going over a poorly deployed stinger at excessive speed, but getting away with it 😁 On a serious note, think I'd play it safe and replace them if it were me. Gaz

Visually etc. My car of the day -today
Cycling back through Hampden Park and went past this rather lovely rarity; 1980 (by the reg) drophead TR7: Was in smashing condition 😎 Gaz

Advice please; small-medium sized hatchback for my sister near Blairgowrie in Scotland
Steering wheel has seen better days. Unremarkable MOT history, although I'd probably ask about the exhaust - was the 'major leak' welded up, or was a new section fitted. Looks like it lost 85k miles last year (a simple typo I'd think) 😁 Gaz

No-Obligation test drives
I've never had a problem asking for a test drive. It of course makes sense to do it at their quiet times if you can. The offer of a drink/best friend/let's go inside and crunch some numbers is usually my cue to leave unless I'm seriously interested, and even then if the numbers don't suit, that's me gone. No need to faff around. Gaz

Hi, I have just bought a 2017 Superb Sportline
Hello and welcome Mark I think if you have a rummage on here, you'll find plenty of affirmation of the Superb as a towing vehicle Many years ago now, my first Skoda was a V6TDI Superb. I had to tow a mate's car with it once, and it was an absolute breeze. Hardly noticed I had anything in tow. Gaz

Mexican stand-off between me and one of the locals. I'd just walked in my back gate and didn't want to scare it, so moved really slowly: We'd just finished picking cherries (5.5lb off a tree barely 12' tall 😎) and there were quite a few on the lawn (well my excuse for a lawn). Sally had just topped up the bird seed and our matey Pigeon I think was wanting me out of the way with the threat of 'You don' letta me atta da cherries, I gonna empty dis feeder RIGHT NOW!' Gaz
