Hello Rob I remember having a 1999 Passat (AFN) that could run on other oils because of it's simpler (than the PD's) fuelling system. Did some research, including filtration for chip shop oil, spoke to someone who was actively (and successfully) using other oils, with the same engine as mine. Then I sold it and bought a Saab Aero instead 🙄 so never actually did it. Gaz

Give them a chance to fix it once and for all, and if that doesn't do the trick, reject the car. Perhaps contact Trading Standards (Consumer Direct) for advice and to lodge a record that you were were given a 'repaired' car that was potentially not roadworthy. I had various coolant parts replaced under warranty on my previous vRS. When I picked the car up it didn't make it the two miles home before blowing its turbo. Sh!t happens 🙄 Gaz

Hello Dale Apart from all the sensible checks, there's really not too much to look out for. I had a 220 and loved it. If I were looking now, I'd be very picky about stone chips and alloy damage if they're diamond faced. Service history is important, making sure all that should have happened has, including a DSG service at 40k miles if you're not going for a manual. A spare wheel instead of gunk, and heated seats would be things I'd be looking for. Have a good rummage in the Octavia III forum as there are a few things that recur, which aren't in themselves deal breakers. Some people, myself included had front doors that retained water until the seals were either replaced or perforated. Sawtoothing on the rear tyres comes up from time to time. And on that point, a car with a matching set of good tyres (or at least axle sets) is likely to be a better bet than one with four different ditch finders, but I'm sure you knew that anyway. I'd be quite concerned that they changed the brake fluid last June, but don't have a record of it(!), and use this as a justification for doing it again. Was there a reason said as to why the calliper had to be replaced rather than rebuilt? Agree with both Dave and Pete. I'd be voting with my feet. Gaz

My 2015 vRS was an Amundsen (MIB1) and has satnav. Further iterations of the Amundsen has it. I think there's difference whether it's in the actual unit or on a SD card (my Amundsen's was on a card) but you'll need wiser people than me for an accurate response. L&K are often brown. Cream and tan also available - my Superb was light tan, which made it a nice light, airy space. Gaz

My previous car was an Octavia Estate, and I agree, bags of room in the boot. Had a saloon Superb before that. I prefer a bigger engined car, hence choosing a vRS, but when looking before buying it, I'd pretty much had me heart set on a 1.6TDI, which was more than adequate in power output. Have fun in the dealers - simply sitting in the different models can be quite revealing in terms of personal preferences. Gaz

Not ACC related then, and I'm forgetting LD's Superb is going to have the DQ200. Our 2015 Polo (192ps, DQ200) doesn't do it either. Curious. G

Interesting Paul. My 2015 didn't, but your 2016 does. TSI vs TDI. Mine was MIB1, isn't yours MIB2? Have you got ACC? (my vRS didn't but the GTI does). Just wondering now about the what's, why's and wherefore's. Gaz

My vRS didn't, but my GTI does. Same engine, same DSG. Feels a bit odd at first, but you soon get used to it. The GTI is also quicker at starting back up one the traffic in front starts to move off. Gaz

Hello Don I did similar with my V6 Superb, which started to get signs of starting issues. Reckoned to most likely be the glowplugs, so I bought a set of six and put them in the glove box. It seemed the threat was enough to resolve the starting problems. Gaz

Not in Norfolk 😁 On a serious note, by all accounts the 1.0 is a punchy little number, so while it'd seem more suited to a much smaller car, it reportedly does okay. Load it up with five adults, luggage, a roofbox and go on holiday to the Peak District and I expect it might struggle a bit. Gaz

I suppose anything Skoda is smaller than a Superb Estate 😁 What's your budget? What'll it be used for? Likely mileage? A Fabia with its seat up might be higher than a Clio. What about a Roomster? or a Kamiq? Gaz
