Some time ago, and without much thought, I bought a frame bag that sits astride the top tube and velcro's around the yoke. It doesn't fit well, not much room in the pockets either side, and I found out the other day that my phone doesn't fit in the clear plastic pouch that sits abreast the frame. I can squeeze what I need in it, but it doesn't fail to disappoint. At Airborne last weekend, we cycled down. Sally left her bike with me and toddled off for a wander around the display areas that don't interest me. It started to rain 🙄 Went quickly from too warm for a cycling jacket, to overcast, breezy and wet ☹️ So I've got myself a pac-a-mac type half-zip cagoule type thing. It's approx. 8"x6"x2": It won't fit in my current storage. I don't want to pinch or crush it. I don't really need to store anything else. So I reckon a simple (i.e. no multiple pockets, nets or internal compartments) saddle bag should suffice. Don't want anything large that makes me look like I've got a baboon's ar$e. Probably 1 to 1.5ltr. Brooks B17 saddle if it makes any difference, and I'll probably want to move one or two of my rear lights from the seat post to the back of the bag. I'm having a good ol' rummage on the interwebnet, but given my last purchase was quite underwhelming, I'd be very interested on any recommendations, and equally any avoid at all costs/don't waste your time's. Our Mk2 Golf GTI 16v had the same symptoms and was confirmed HG failure. Didn't have time to DIY, so went to a local VW indy. Once fixed it was right as rain. I wonder if the petrol in the oil is a separate issue. Worn bores or rings might be causative given the mileage, and the fact power improves with temperature (i.e. compression). Although that could also be injectors/injector loom, or several other possibilities. It'll be interesting to see what your mech says. Gaz

Better the devil you know unless your mechanics advice is that the engine is shot. For the price of a head skim, gasket, bolts, belt and tensioner(s), if the rest is sound I wouldn't replace it with one of unknown provenance. There was a chap on here years ago (Rotodiesel?) who was in the know/trade and said on more than one occasion that there wasn't much in it between the five and six speed boxes. Gaz

Think positive - it's sounding good so far It'd be interesting to know what the error code was, as this might point to where the problem was specifically. My 2015 vRS had a fault on the Coolant Check Valve. Didn't boil over or overheat, but it did cause the turbo to grenade itself due to a lack of coolant, which was an expensive fix ☹️ Gaz

It's a significant job, but there are 'fixes' including a longer shaft, updated pumps and drives. General consensus is the 2.0 140 BSS engine is a lemon, best avoided. Some homework would serve you in good stead. IIRC there's a fairly comprehensive thread over on audi-sport.net (and some on here). Several cars across the VAG range were affected. It's the 170 engine, so won't have the oil pump drive shaft issues of the earlier 2.0 140 BSS engine, but I mention it just in case you look at other similar cars as well. The hex shaft wears and fails, often catastrophically. Worth being aware of. Gaz

Time's undoubtedly not on their side. I had similar with a Honda Accord that was broken into (They stole a faulty CD player that skipped like a good 'un ). A reasonable job was done for the glass that was on show, but my children were young at the time, so I took it upon myself to clear all the broken glass. Taking my time, it probably took half a day, including taking the seat base, and door speaker out for better access to a tricky area. Sorry you've had it happen - any fallen objects nearby or projectiles in the car (might be really small), or grazes in the paint? Gaz

Perhaps they could show you what valve on what tank 🙄 Fixed is what counts. Could have been a wiring fault or a plug not plugged in to a temperature sensor, or the water pump/another part of the cooling system. Fingers crossed it's sorted and the saga draws to a close. Gaz

Where the coolant is seems to indicate it's coming from the expansion tank cap/lid. It's a good shout by Jack to get a new lid, as that might make it an easy fix - best to start with the easy/cheapest solutions. Have you had the bonnet up with the engine running, at temperature; it might become obvious with just a visual check. That there is no oil in the coolant, or vice versa is a good sign. Unfortunately it's also not conclusive, so a sniff test to check the coolant for exhaust gasses might prove reassuring. Sounds like it needs further diagnosis as to what's going on (if it's not the cap). A stitch in time, and all that jazz... Gaz
