Mine used to persist doing this ages ago, several s/ware updates eventually resolved it apart from the odd occasion now and then - usually triggered by being on a long right hand bend when the car somehow gets confused. It settles back to normal after a few minutes. The other time it gets confused is on return from a trip to France. After disembarking from Le Shuttle it seems to think I’m still in France for the first three or four miles of the M20, is fine after that for the next 100+ miles. Always behaves impeccably when on the continent 🤷‍♂️ As for your car, how long have you had it and do you know if it’s been updated - not just the infotainment unit but other embedded modules too? If you haven’t already, try forcing a restart of the info system - press and hold the on/off button for about 10 seconds or so, you should see it begin a reboot.

If you haven’t tried, maybe take a photo or video when the fault occurs and send it to the dealer as evidence.

I can’t really comment on the clutch in a manual VRS as mine is a 1.5tsi 150; so about 25% less powerful. For what it’s worth, mine is fine at ~74k miles.

Early pre-FL cars suffered with significant infotainment system issues as well as some other modules (eg SOS unit). S/ware updates and some component replacements have sorted them. If the car is a Škoda approved used vehicle then all software updates should be applied - insist that they are and ask for proof they have been done.

Not vRS specific but provided an early-ish mk4 has had the updates then it will be fine - ok, as well as any modern with all the tech in them (infotainment gremlins are not unique tonŠkoda/VAG). After three weeks of ownership I very nearly rejected my late 2020 car, now, after 70k miles, I’m thinking I’ll keep it longer than I would normally. As for reversing cameras, East Yorkshire Retrofits have a good reputation and use genuine VAG components (note, I have no association with them, just read a lot about them in these forums).

Indeed, An ID7 in Škoda clothes would be very tempting. I'm on a 2020 1.5TSI estate - and love it; 72k miles and going strong. Usually change the car at about 6 years or 80-ish k miles, so that would make it later this year. I'm not [yet] convinced that fully electric would suit my pattern of journeys and the distance to very elderly relatives so will likely stay with the Octavia for another year or two, allowing time for developments and improvements in both the public charging infrastrucutre/costs and medium/large estate EVs. A Superb PHEV may be a shorter term option but most PHEVs loose some boot space. Anyway, hope you enjoy the Enyaq...

+1 for the 16" wheels. I used to have a 1.4 TSI Mk2 Superb, a very nice ride and no issues with scuffing the alloys on kerbs or potholes on the original fit 205/55R16 tyres; son-in-law now has the car with 160+k miles on it!

I'm no mechanic but if possible try to get a recording of it and share that. May help diagnose it.

I have the ‘official’ spare for my 2020 (70 plate estate); it is a 16” wheel (17” alloys fitted as road wheels) but branded ‘space saver’ and marked max 80kph/50mph - despite being a 205 width tyre. 🙄 Does provide the reassurance though - I bought it after a puncture in a small village in the middle of nowhere France four years ago. Not had a puncture since 😂😂 That’s it, I’m proper b***ered now 😱

I think I read somewhere that because the downloads are quite big they only happen when the car running, pausing when it's parked up. Hopefully yours will resume once driving again.

Not that I am aware of. I get app updates that's all.

Question for those who’ve had the OCU of their 2020/21 cars updated to 0144 &/or 0311. Did that update enable A route planned in the Škoda App to be sent to the in-car SatNav? The remote lock and unlock? My late 2020 can do neither, nor get OTA updates. Currently working fine on 1941. Thanks.

Had for about this thread 🙄 Saw these little beauties in Bernkastel-Kues (Mosel Valley, Germany) the other week

I reckon the tank is 45 litres plus whatever fits in the pipe to the filler cap. I am often putting 42-43 litres in mine, usually around the time the bottom mark lights up red - at which point I have about 65 - 85 miles of range left. The variation in the range is down to the type of recent journeys and average fuel economy. If several short journeys at around 45mpg then the lower figure, but I'm often doing longer trips and can get high-50's to low-60s mpg. Have done over 600 miles on a single fill - perhaps pushing my luck, but thankfully not pushing the car 😉

Looks like you have the Bolero infotainment system whereas most of the downloadable updates are for the larger Columbus system - which probably explains why your system doesn't recognise the update files. Having said that, be aware that I have NOT attempted manual updates to my Columbus system so am commenting from a position of relative ignorance. Hopefully others will comment further.

From memory, the function to disable the auto-locking was there when I got my 2020 build car (just over five years ago). However, after many software updates, it is no longer appears in the menus on mine either (when it disappeared I don't know). I guess you could use the Central Locking button under the Infotainment screen to manually unlock it. Tedious though!

Welcome to the Briskoda forums. Could you provide a little more information; what is the wording of the warning message? Also, confirm if your Octavia is a manual or DSG (auto) ‘box. Hopefully someone will be able to help diagnose your issue.

Yes. But… IIRC there is a setting to auto apply the parking brake when turning off the engine. You will see the P light up when it’s applied. (The light goes out when opening the door.)

I’d really appreciate some thoughts and/suggestions… During the summer this year I’m going to be doing some long walks culminating in the Yorkshire Three Peaks (24 miles, 12+ hours). I’d like to be monitoring my fitness levels during the event and when training, whilst [GPS] tracking the routes I walk. I’d also like it to integrate with the Activity/Workout and Health apps on my iPhone. Having trawled t’interweb I’m leaning towards getting a Garmin device of some sort (maybe Venu or Vivoactive) as they have a better battery life than the Apple Watches (which are brilliant but won’t last a 12 hour walk). Other contenders include FitBit and brands I’d not previously heard about. So, anyone with experience of using such devices over long days? Thanks…
