I've just had a set of four new tyres, forgot to reset the TPMS (passive) before leaving the depot - and the inevitable warning showed up after a mile or so. Was unable to reset whilst driving, not even when stationary at the traffic lights. It was only after parking up at home turning off then the ignition back on could I reset the TPMS (whilst stationary). So, both disagree and agree...

Mine came with Michelin Primacy 4 as original fit, they're fine in wet and dry conditions and have lasted well - currently on 44k miles with more than 3mm left. Having said that, I might replace them with all-season tyres, maybe Cross Climate 2. On my previous Superb mk2 I had Goodyear Efficient Grip, I rate them highly as they're at least as good and quieter than the current Michelins.

Yes, a fabulous trip, thanks. I've got a 2020 SEL First Edition which includes blind spot detectors and the nicety of powered/memory drivers seat & door mirrors. One of those things I never knew I needed 😂 Not yet had a look at how it compares to more recent model years.

I've just returned from a road trip to Provence in my 1.5TSI manual Octavia Mk4 estate. Whilst I didn't need any of the EV/PHEV charging infrastructure I was surprised at the investment made in it since my last road trip, lots of new charging bays; there appeared to be more bays than I have noticed at UK service areas and lots of them vacant. Many a supermarket or town car parks also had new charging bays, with good levels of availability. The trip was just shy of 1900 miles most of which was Autoroute at or near the legal limit of 130kph (82mph); the remainder pootling around the hilltop villages on steep twisty roads or through the traffic of Avignon (no, rush hour was not a good plan 🙄). Four adults and a boot full of luggage & photography gear, barely enough room for the half dozen bottles of wine we brought back. Overall economy was 53.4mpg. For me, the 1.5TSi petrol estate works best.

Really? Do you have any links to that? I haven't experienced anything like it other than one or two bouts of ineptitude when I selected 3rd instead of 1st and stalled it 🙄. No different to any previous car.

Given the fuel economy of the petrol Octavia on long runs I don’t think I could justify the additional cost of an e-Tec let alone the IV hybrid.

My manual 1.5TSI is returning up to 63mpg on a long motorway run, with an overall average of ~56mpg since I bought it (43k miles). The 1.0 e-TEC (MHEV, DSG) I drove for about 8k miles with an average of around 53mpg. My 'gut feel' is that the 1.5 e-TEC DSG would be more economic on a long run than the 1.0 e-TEC especially with a heavy load.

The car you're looking at is about half the mileage of my estate (44k miles) on which the suspension is fine. I tend to do long journeys pretty well loaded up (two people and a full boot for the vast majority of that mileage). I have no concerns in that respect. As you're looking at a 2020 FE, insist the dealer does all the software updates available.

OK, I own a Mk4 Octavia estate but have driven a Karoq on several occasions, and both vehicles with both the 1.5TSI (manual) and the 1.0TSI (Karoq was manual, Octavia was the e-TEC DSG). Also, it's worth me mentioning that I am over 6' 4" (1.95m) tall so seating position, headroom, and the relative positions of the pedals and steering wheel are majorly significant for me. My thoughts are that the Octavia is notably quieter and significantly more comfortable than the Karoq; whilst I have not driven huge distances in the Karoq, I regularly cover 300+ miles a day in the Octavia with one monster trip of 580 miles over about 15 hours with no ill effects (appropriate rest breaks were taken!). The Octavia is a motorway mile muncher... The boot is bigger in the Octavia and for bikes I'd say the extra length is beneficial. @Novascape has a point about the shape of the boot in the Karoq - it is more square, and in the SEL the rear seats have greater adjustment. The other aspect is fuel economy. With both the 1.0 and 1.5 engines the Octavia has returned at least 15% more miles per gallon than the Karoq over similar journeys.

So the issue is the IV rather than the mk4 per se. For mountain bikes it also depends on the frame size. I could never get mine in the boot of a Superb let alone an Octavia without taking the front wheel off.

Very sensible to get off the motorway and take a break. Interesting you mention aircon and sinuses; I suffer with dry eye and the aircon can play havoc unless I drink plenty of water - which usually means plenty of pee stops 🙄

Yes, was easy enough to get the dealer to do mine, though at the time it was still under the three year warranty. How much difference that will make I don’t know. AIUI, it was a small update and didn’t take long - unlike some updates. It made no difference to the display options in the virtual dashboard; I can get a map view but not with the dials overlaid.

According to the manual I got with my car... "By double locking within 2 seconds."

Hi, and welcome to Briskoda. Which model or Octavia do you have, and do you have the 8" or 10" infotainment screen? Early models with the 10" screen didn't support wireless AA until some software updates; I can't remember when the fix was implemented (I'm an iPhone user) but there has been discussion in this forum in the past. Have you searched for previous posts?

Selection of satnav system is a matter of personal choice/preference - I dislike Waze and Google Maps. Takes alsorts…

Yep, mine is the same as @JamesK There are two subscription services so check you have the right one for map updates (or both).

I prefer the My Škoda Essentials App by a long way, but I think the My Škoda app is improving with successive releases thus I live in hope. The latest iOS app does now show if the car is locked or not... What it displays about being locked if a window is open I don'r know.

I would say go for a Mk4. I reckon they are a much nicer 'place to be' and more fuel efficient. The infotainment system gremlins are by and large fixed particularly with v1941 or 1969 which has sorted the repeated system restarts. Yes, there were a lot of issue with s/ware modules in earlier cars (2020/21) which ought to be fixed by now but have been told by a local dealer sales guy that there are some out there which haven't yet. If you do go for an early Mk4 vehicle I suggest going through a main dealer and ensure that all the fixes are applied and get assurance in writing that they'll do any which arise. Things to look out for include KPH/MPH settings (speedo & satnav), ACC thinking you're driving on the right (and preventing overtaking instead of undertaking), SOS module popping noise, road sign recognition reading as Km not miles), flickering fuel and temperature gauges. The early SE and SE First Edition cars had the smaller 8" infotainment screen, 'standard' cruise control and no SatNav so were not impacted by those issues. In fact, whilst mine was being investigated & fixed I had a 2020 SE FE on loan which was trouble free for the 8.5k miles I had it. During that time (5 months) I very nearly rejected my SEL FE to keep the loan car - very pleased I didn't as now it's fixed it is a lovely car.

I’m not convinced it is temperature related; for about five months last year I was experiencing infotainment system reboots here in UK. Started during March and remained until late July when the s/ware was updated to 1941. All OK now.
