  1. Not all updates are over the air to date. Only in the last few weeks have I read about the bigger ones being pushed out that way.
  2. It was a very comfortable and easy drive; the 'box would change readily down if I needed the extra rpm for acceleration. I was surprised that the DSG 'box was as economical as my manual.
  3. I reckon Škoda have prioritised the gear ratios for low emissions and lower fuel consumption, hence lower revs when cruising. Is your a manual 'box or auto/DSG? From memory, at steady motorway speeds the revs in a loan DSG I had a while back were lower than my manual 'box.
  4. Thanks guys. Now you mention it, I recall an old Top Gear item on the DB9 bemoaning it too soft compared to later ones (or something along those lines). My thinking is evolving, quite fancy a V8 and am warming to the idea of a classic rather than more modern. A big old Daimler maybe, though also closer to the mobile sitting room perhaps. For looks, a Triumph Stag could fit the bill but not convinced for long drives. Quatraporte is a good shout; think there is a place nearby with those.
  5. Thank you. I’d thought of the f type as a sports car but with the ride a little more pliant than an M3 it’s a good call. As you say, they look good. Thank you, I’ll check ‘em out.
  6. I quite fancy hiring a Grand Tourer car for an 'Occasion' next year, keen to get ideas and a better understanding of what makes an ideal GT car. There are many out there I'm sure, but I must admit to being easily get confused by what is a GT car and what's a Sports car - I don't want a bold, brash machine with a hard ride, rather something more elegant with an effortless, pliant waft through the countryside. Guessing that points me in the direction of a Bentley Continental or something of that ilk, but they seem a bit OTT to me. Something iconic appeals too, so maybe not Audi, or Mercedes. Oh, and I'm just shy of 2m tall so nothing tiny or I won't fit 🤣 I think of Ferrari, Aston Martin, and Porsche as sports cars, but are there some models that fit the GT mould? As you can see, I'm in that odd position of knowing what I want without actually knowing what I want!
  7. I can feel your frustration and disappointment; such a shame you felt no option other than to reject the car. Also a shame they have potentially lost a loyal customer. I hope you can find a suitable alternative.
  8. I've seen that discussed in this forum, especially with the additional delay caused by the engine Stop/Start system. Not something I had really considered (being one of the manual 'box drivers).
  9. Welcome to the forums. From my experience the 6sp. manual is absolutely fine and I see no reason to doubt its reliability. My current Octavia Mk IV has covered about 32k miles, so not a huge amount I admit. I see no reason why it should be any less reliable than my previous two Škodas, Octavia Mk2 and Superb Mk2 both of which I covered in excess of 80k miles. BTW, I know the Superb is currently in excess 105k on the original clutch. Again, not massive mileage compared to some, but hopefully gives you a feel for them. I find my Octavia MkIV estate is very economical too, returning about 57mpg overall since I've had it (based on spreadsheet calculations and brim to brim tankfuls). Others have reported (in other threads) good economy from the 1.5 TSi manual too. With the gear ratios and engine (low revs) flexibility I find that around town 30mph limits I'm usually in 4th, occasionally 5th if light on the throttle; 6th only becomes useful above 40mph, and even then 5th is potentially more economical. I can't vouch for the 1.5 TSi automatics though; the only DSG auto I have driven for any distance (~8k miles) was a MkIV estate 1.0 e-TEC mild hybrid. It was surprisingly lively with two and modest luggage on board, returning mid-50s mpg; I suspect it'd be a bit lacking for a fully loaded motorway run though, certainly compared with a vRS. The 1.5 e-TEC would be better I'm sure, and probably what I would go for now/next. There are others here with much more knowledge and experience of the DSGs so hopefully they will add comment too.
  10. I’d quite like the tail lights to come on with the front DRLs, i.e. on all the time.
  11. Welcome back to Škoda. The biggest difference between the Mk III & IV is the touchscreen (I'm not sure what the Kia will be like but the Octy MkIV has few physical buttons). Top tip from me is take your time to explore how it all works, get used to using the voice control (which I find great for climate and radio/media). CarPlay or Android Auto work well, and of course voice control there too. One or two minor frustrations too. For example, the car does not remember the engine mode, it always defaults back to 'Normal' each time its started; similarly for Lane Assist, its always on when starting up (not that this one bothers me but I know it does some folk). Other than that, enjoy...
  12. Rather than the car requesting the update to 1941 the dealer (or Master Technician) should be checking for compatibility of the car with 1941. In some cases it’s a two stage update, something like from 16xx to 18xx then 1941. Mine is similar generation, registered Sept ‘20, an SEL FE. It’s one of those that needed two years to get sorted, tested my patience but we got there and now I have a great car that is surprisingly economical to run and loads of space.
  13. Yep, what @ZacDaMan72 said - beat me to it…
  14. As was mentioned by @spcdust, a software update to 1941 and the SOS unit updated too should resolve it. I had the SOS unit replaced about a year ago which might also be an option. Mine has been nigh on perfect for several months since 1941 was installed. My suggestion is to build good rapport with the dealer and it’ll help in the long run. My frustration over the three years has been with the car and Śkoda, treated the dealer as an ally in getting it fixed.
  15. Understood. Yeah, that 'to do' with the Ferrari is/was a right pain. Good luck with the insurance/NCB
  16. A thought. Have you tried both music and maps on the same flash drive?
  17. Hardly an explicit set of instructions and can see the opportunity for confusion. FWIW, my interpretation is that it could take a while to update the whole map dataset hence the recommendation to leave the flash drive plugged. Not sure I have any idea how long 'a while' is though. If it were me, I'd do it on a trip to the in-laws some 300 miles away rather than a run to the local supermarket. If you're not doing any/many long trips maybe just leave it in the port for a few weeks and check the Nav Db dates periodically to if/when it's updated; it'd only need to be once a year or so.
  18. Ah! Ok, can understand that!
  19. Are there USB-C ports in the back of your RS? There is on my SEL FE, and I use one of those to charge an extra phone if need be. They are power only, no data connection.
  20. @spcdust I really hope your dealer and Škoda UK can get your SEL First Edition sorted for you. I’ve had mine since March ‘21 (Sept ‘20 registered) and been through the full gamut of fixes with the latest updates applied in September. All works like it should, thankfully. It’s shameful that your dealer get these known issues updated/fixed before selling it - in my opinion that’s definitely bad for their own reputation, and unfortunately [further] damages the Škoda brand too. Keep the pressure on the dealer, using Škoda UK to add weight as necessary. I’m confident your can can be fixed - given the right effort & attitude of the dealership.
  21. Hiya! And welcome to the forums, and you new VRS IV. Some of your queries (1. & 6.) I think are IV specific which I can't help you with as mine the 1.5TSI, hopefully others on here will chip in. 2. Radio Logos - IIRC, there is a menu setting which enables auto download of the logos. I reckon all the logos appear on mine after a little while of first tuning in to the channel, I'm not aware of ever having the wrong or no logo at any time. 3. Music - there has been a couple of threads on the media format for the USB-C sticks; the car seems to be quite fussy. Try this one, think it will help : 4. Screen Changing by itself - the car has gesture control in it; so waving your hand infant of the screen will change it from one to anther. Can be disabled in Settings though personally I like it as if reduces fingerprints. 5. Front Assist unavailable - this time of year it is often the case that dew forms on the front of the car and obscures the radar. It usually clears after a mile or two. Alternatively, it might just be road grime collected on it.
  22. Welcome aboard! Hoping you enjoy your new car and the forums. There's a great bunch of folk here with some really useful advice, as well as some funny/interesting off-topic discussions. Enjoy.
  23. That's way to clever an idea - it'll never happen 🤣
  24. AIUI each of the following are available in the car (infotainment screen and virtual cockpit) and via the app... Long Term - keeps count up to 9999Km or 99h 59m then automatically resets. Can be manually reset. Since refuelling - just that Since Start - just that, unless stationary for less than 2 hours in which case it continues the count. Can be manually reset. However, I've noticed the app misses some journeys if the Škoda servers are down or unreachable for a period of time (e.g. parked up in a mobile 'not spot'). Also, the car data may be reset if there is a major software or firmware update whilst the may app retains it. Alas it all seems a little amateurish.
  25. No, it was my bad. I didn't read your post properly, sorry about that. As others have said, only the built in SatNav and Apple Maps displays the turn direction in the Virtual Cockpit. Whilst CarPlay supports two screens (e.g. the Infotainment Screen and Virtual Cockpit), it is down to app developers to exploit it in their apps. I guess Google have not done so, whereas I think Spotify has to display the song title briefly.
