  1. Similar to @Tishout I tried several different 30cm cables and failed to find one suitable. In the end I bought a right angle USB-C --> USB-A adapter and used the NextBase cable that came in the box. Tucking it behind the mirror conceals it surprisingly well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Converter-Smartphone-Keyboards-Peripherals/dp/B07D7TQD86/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=zdyCGTime+USB+C&qid=1634651142&qsid=260-9540041-1628026&sr=8-4&sres=B08PP7T64C%2CB07D7TQD86%2CB08JH9MBLQ%2CB08JHTT1C2%2CB08JHZNV1M%2CB0948WLDN7%2CB08FDJ36XW%2CB072C563JD%2CB086DP8Q9N%2CB08B4F64SQ%2CB08YYNVTZ8%2CB010SFDKC6%2CB0771GTYC7%2CB098XNCHLD%2CB098SWBMK2%2CB0887TD21N
  2. My car was one of two intended trial vehicles. Not sure what happened with the second as last I heard Skoda UK had not had feedback. As for mine, the KPH/MPH issue is fixed with about 1000 miles since I picked it up. However, I now have the SOS pop/click sound. Booked in for a further update in a couple of weeks time. Prior to mine being taken off the road back in April I had not experienced the SOS issue so maybe they are awaiting the outcome of that further update before a wider roll-out just in case there is a link.
  3. Is there any truth in the rumour that all orders for Brilliant Silver will be shipped in Bubble-gum Pink 🤣 🤣
  4. It will tricky to find the many issues people have had whilst at handover but there are a few obvious things - the kph/mph selection being one of them. Also SatNav units being selectable; saving favourite destinations seem to be an issue for some, though not one I have experienced. As @DSG245 mentioned some cars are fine, some not. My SEL FE had the infamous kph/mph problem and was the test vehicle for the fix. Thankfully that is sorted, as is the ACC (which used to be confused about which side I could overtake). The occasional niggle remains, like the SOS system clicking and popping but it drives beautifully, and all things work as they should. Whilst mine was off the road for 20 weeks I had a loan Octy4 1.0 e-Tec SE FE. It worked faultlessly for the 8500 miles I put on the clock. The impression I get is that the latest build cars are better than my early build, so with luck yours will be fine. Hope you enjoy your new car as much as I now am mine 😊
  5. That’s fine. If you want a holder then that’s obviously your call - I was just surprised as I am pleased that I don’t want one after years in other cars in which I needed a holder. Good point about the rate of charging though, and a reminder for us all not to spoil the battery. I often do 300+ mile journeys so not really an issue for me.
  6. I have never felt the need for a phone holder of any sort in the Octavia 4 as I can now use CarPlay which it gives me all the apps I need on the road and with Siri is easy to use without distraction. As for placing the phone (iPhone XR), it's either on a wireless charger near the USB-C sockets, on an empty passenger seat, over the cup holders between front seats (it fits nicely in there), or in the door pocket.
  7. Short answer - yes. Using CarPlay to stream audio with Spotify and Apple Maps for navigation the wireless charger is sufficient. Enough power to charge my iPhone XR at the same time, albeit slowly. It seems the charger is no longer available though. A shame ‘cos it fits in the centre console space nicely.
  8. The one on the gear selector puts the DSG box in Park (which effectively locks the gears). The other is the electronic Parking Brake. There is a setting which activators when you turn off the engine by pressing the start/stop button. My loaner had that on by default.
  9. have a twiddle with the display in the centre of the speedo in the virtual cockpit. use the silver switch/roller on the right side of the steering wheel. you get the option to display distance since start, since refuel, long term. The first and last of those three can be reset using the same menu. alternatively, turn off the cruise control and the total mileage is displayed in place of the CC/ACC symbols. You can then use that to calculate the trip as need be.
  10. I believe it is to do with the date of deceleration regardless of whether the brakes are on or not; so regen charging could cause it.
  11. That makes sense now, thanks. And interesting to read that it automatically uses the regen braking to decelerate the car on approaches to roundabouts etc - for more practical use than an eco-tip!
  12. The auto-braking is part of the ACC/SpeedLimiter and nothing to do with the eco-tips. My car knows when I’m approaching a roundabout, a downhill etc and eco-tips suggests lifting foot off the accelerator. That can only come from the navigation database. So, if the hybrid system can self tune, it may be able to use the navigation Db when approaching a long descent regardless of route guidance or not; or whether Waze is in use or not. The OP referred to the manual stating it use Navigation data. My experience tells me my 1.5tsi uses navigation data for eco tips.
  13. I drive a 1.5tsi, so the following may not apply but hopefully some indication of the cars behaviour… The Eco tips displayed in the virtual cockpit come up with things like ‘lift foot off accelerator’ and are accompanied with a symbol depicting a downhill, a 30 limit, a junction or a roundabout. This can only come from the navigation database as I don’t have road sign recognition. This behaviour was without using the built in SatNav for route guidance. On that basis, I’d like to think the hybrid system will self tune based on the database whether or not it is used for route guidance. Hope that helps…
  14. Could it be that your user account is registered as the primary user of the car with the old control unit, which is then preventing the new control unit from completing the authorisation/connection. Perhaps get the dealer to de-register the primary user (if not already done)
  15. I haven’t come across this in a car before, but from general IT glitches over the years, perhaps try one or more of… - create a new user of a different name in the car & online - Delete your user account in the car and start again - delete your user account online and start again - delete the app from iPad & phone, restart devices and reinstall the app
  16. As I mention above, my Mk4 Octy manual states they are configurable. I think it is more to do with brightness that just being LED. 2000 Lumens comes to mind but not sure.
  17. Out for a short drive today and remembered to try the washers. Turned on the headlights and a very quick squirt of the windscreen washer, the headlight washer came on too. Subsequent squirts it was only the windscreen. A quick check in the manual… If the headlights are on, the headlight washer is activated on the first wash of the windscreen, then every tenth. It goes on to say that it is configurable by a specialist. This is a UK market SE L FE. Not all LED equipped cars have headlight washers. The SE FE loan car I had was fitted with the same standard Octavia LED lights as my own - and that did not have headlight washers.
  18. Welcome to the forums Paul. I’ve been driving the Octy4 for about 6 months and about 10k miles and find the centre vent positioning OK for the vast majority of the time. With hands on the wheel in ‘ten to two’ position sometimes my left hand/wrist was in the way for the airflow to the face. A gentle nudge up and it was fine or move my grip on the wheel down a little. I’ve found the electric seat to be more comfortable than the standard ones, a good option to go for!
  19. So that will be my car. As per my posts earlier this month, it was one of two selected to test the fix in the real world. I have provided feedback and Škoda UK are awaiting clearance form the factory to release the fix more widely (and quite possibly awaiting supply of components due to the global chip shortage). I don’t think she’s “having a giraffe” at all. If we assumed they have a number of cars that need fixing they’ll want to be sure the fix actually fixes the issues and [as it involved a hardware component] they are hampered by supply of chips. Real world testing on a sample of 1 is limited, what has happened to the second test vehicle I don’t know; but at least they’ve got a solution that works [in my car]. I kind of feel privileged to have got my car fixed; and feel for those who are still waiting - almost more frustration know that a viable fix exists… Hang on in there guys!
  20. it’s all in the marketing and product placement I guess! I’m still getting used to ACC. Sometimes I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread, others, a right pain! Learning to adapt my driving to is all part of the fun. Lane Assist I quite like; got used to it and doesn’t bother me at all, and helpful at times. Turning it off however, has to be done every time you start the car! You can though disable the vibrate.
  21. A quick look on the Škoda UK website at teh SE Technology specs. - https://www.skoda.co.uk/new-cars/octavia/estate-se-technology It shows… Cruise control with speed limiter (i.e. NOT Adaptive Cruise Control) Keyless start/stop system (i.e. NOT Keyless Entry) So, unless you ordered ‘Full’ KESSY the doors wont open without the press of the key button; and similarly, without the option for ACC, then you have the standard CC. Do oyu have a third stalk on there left of the steering column? If not, then you don’t have ACC.
  22. Interesting - if you look at the Arla website, for their Aylesbury site, they actually tell you to use a different postcode if using a SatNav.
  23. “It is out there” but where, and is it genuine? Personally I wouldn’t touch it with a barge pole! We all know the risk of downloading apps for our computers from unofficial sources - image what a deviant minded individual could do to safety systems is a car… I’d like to think car manufacturers prevent the installation of system updates without following strict procedures.
  24. Very good suggestion @Skody123, I missed that.
  25. Good News! My car suffered almost exactly the same issues as yours and following a lengthy period of investigation and development it has been fitted with a replacement virtual cockpit unit - one of two vehicles to test the fix in the ‘real world’. It was installed early this month and I have provided feedback to both dealer and Škoda UK. Apparently they are talking to ‘Technical’ about a wider deployment of the fix. I now have KPH/MPH selectable for the speedometer, a clock in the virtual cockpit and the inbuilt SatNav selectable to show Miles or Km. Lane Assist and ACC work better than previously too. My vehicle was not fitted with road sign recognition (or the option isn’t enabled), nor does it have the HUD unit installed. For your dealer to suggest using CarPlay & Google Maps is shockingly bad! Škoda UK have known that this is a fault since March/April, and was escalated to ‘the factory’ in April once they had several vehicles with the same issues recorded and logged. My understanding is that the inability of the speedometer to display KPH is a compliance issue as I believe the UK regulations state that both MPH & KPM are displayed either simultaneously or are selectable. Whilst it has taken my car being off the road for a very frustrating 20 weeks to get it sorted I can say that Škoda UK have followed due process to investigate and develop a fix which, in my car, works perfectly. There is a fix and your dealer should be aware of it. These are really nice cars, a pleasure to drive, plenty of room, and very economical. There is a conversation to be had with your dealer…
