  1. This may or may not help but we have a 1.4tsi 4x4 5 seat that we collected second hand in May and recently did a trip from Sheffield to Belfast with four people and the boot and car fully loaded. The trip took us over the Pennines and then on A roads and ultimately motorway and the car managed about 36 UK mpg on that run. Yes it felt 'loaded' going up the A537 Cat and Fiddle but that's not surprising given how steep that road is and it was very stable on the A roads and motorway despite being loaded. Sure the 2.0 would be better but I was pleasantly surprised. Then this last weekend I did a cross country run from Sheffield to Keele and back two up. I didn't hang about and again was surprised but how well the car could be hustled along at a decent lick. I was followed by a new Ford Mustang for a long time and the state of the roads meant he was constantly dropping back until a long decent straight with a good surface opened up at which point he easily reeled me in but again I was surprised. The car managed just over 38 UK mpg on that trip. Longer steady motorway runs have managed just over 40 uk mpg. Yes I'd like a 2.0 but all in all for a small engine in a big car the 1.4 does well and I'd expect a 1.5 to be similar and possibly better if its just fwd. In fact a 1.4 with a remap to 180 ish bhp would be an interesting alternative... I just need to convince SWMBO.
  2. The Garage at Sheaf Gardens are decent. Not there cheapest but know their stuff.
  3. There are a few threads about this on here and most seem to bevdue to strut failure. I think a few owners have switchedv to gas struts given the electric ones are so expensive.
  4. Probably also worth checking the main earth strap where it bolts to the chassis if possible. I'm also not sure if there is a 'master fuse' on the +be battery clamp. I know some Hondas have them and they can have timy cracks in them but not sure about the Kodiaq
  5. Personally my experience with CCs is that 18k is about normal. They have a pretty soft compound and to be frank I'd worry if I was getting much more as it would be indicative of a harder, less grippy, compound. But each to thier own.
  6. I've only used the guys below for servicing and brakes but they are actually a specialist gearbox and transmission outfit and have generally been good to deal with. They are a bit rough and ready but seem to know their stuff as they did work on our old Octavia 4x4, knew about the early Honda Civic CDTi clutch issues and are always busy so have a decent reputation. It may therefore be worth giving them a call to see what they have / can do, even though they are a long way from you... Differential Reconditioning | M & T Transmissions (mandttransmissions.co.uk)
  7. On those load cover trim clips did you glue them back in place? I only ask as I had similar on my FIL's Honda Civic Tourer and they kept popping out but a drop of glue sorted them.
  8. Blimey - you've changed your tune on Brexit??? never thought I'd hear that admission! Anyhow - back to cars - looks like I'll be keeping the current ones for a while then as nothing fills me with more dread than the thought of sitting in an autonomous car...
  9. Had something similar once and it was a dead battery. A colleague of mine also had something similar that turned out to be a loose battery connection.
  10. For info if sprog fell asleep on our way home we were usually able to park up and switch of the engine and she'd carry on sleeping. yours might be the same??

I can only assume there must be some area of pouch / tin that is allowing a signal to 'escape'. I put my Swift kessy key in a pouch and holding it next to the handle it still doesn't unlock, so I'd expect the Skoda keys to be similar.
  12. I doubt Lexus' NA engines have anything to do with their drop in sales .. probably more like people tightening thier belts and covid .. otherwise the likes if BMW, Jaguar, Honda, Audi and Alfa and the others on your list wouldn't have suffered to the same extent or worse... ???
  13. Not really - but they do potentially highlight the different between vehicles within different size sectors...
  14. Lexus - hardly crummy based models but as I understand it a large number of them use naturally aspirated engines and the Atkinson cycle? And I'm not sure you can realistically compare an Aygo with an Octavia... both come in base specs and high specs but are aimed at a different market sector... Personally my Swift could hardly be called crummy given the level of tech within it exceeds a lot of much bigger, premium models... but then again it does have a turbo...
  15. Yep got it - I can see now where you mean - I was thinking too far north but it's ages since I've been up there.
  16. Is that from up near the zoo?
  17. Sounds like one of the buttons is stuck down so it's constantly transmitting and has lost synchronisation with the car. Would suggest you try to check / unstick the buttons and then re such the fob
  18. I think he's trying to deflect from his assertion that there aren't many non-turbo cars in the UK these days ... an assertion that is patently wrong. Either way you're right... It's not much to do with the effect of bio fuel on economy...
  19. Eh??? Not many new cars are NA granted but there are still lots being sold and also bear in mind that the average age of the uk car fleet is about 9 years and that means a large proportion of those will be NA. And that's not forgetting all the older cars and classics. And finally consider that only two years ago less than 40% of vehicles manufactured were turbocharged.
  20. There's a couple knocking about near us - both in the dark green. One, with the 'adventure pack and external 'panniers' and one in matt finish - the first looks daft but the second looks absolutely naff...
  21. The part number I used on our 2007 4x4x BMM was 3C0145828K, Personally I'd go new from ebay and not bother with a scrapper as a S/H one is likely to be half knackered anyway. 3c0145828k | eBay The one I used was this one (but was cheaper then!) 3C0145828K Volkswagen (V.W.), SEAT, SKODA, AUDI TURBO HOSE | eBay
  22. That one looks familiar - I reckon you must've been looking for one at the same time as me!
  23. Yep i can understand that and its a slighly different need to mine on the edge of the Pennines. The Vredensteins will be going on my Swift as and when it needs new tyres. Partly because they are available in the size I need whereas others aren't but also because ive run vredesteins sportracs before and i really rated them and I'd expect the quatracs to be equally good.
  24. I ran the older version of the CrossClimates on our Mk2 Octavia 4x4 from when they first came out until we got rid a few months ago. They were excellent tyres regardless of weather and far superior to the OE Dunlops and other Goodyear tyres I've had previously. In terms of wear they lasted as well as I expected and we never had an issue with cracking, unlike some of the Bridgestones I've had before and the OE Dunlops that had cracked in the sipes down to the threads after a few thousand miles.
