04 VRS : Elegance Drawer and Connects2 Aux Input Fitted

Featured Replies

Had my VRS for over a week now and i'm loving it. I bought some tat for it last week, now its time to be fitted.

This morning I fitted my Elegance drawer and Connects2 aux input adapter (CTVSKX001)

Aux Adapter

The Connects 2 adapter was a pig to install. I taped all the coloured wires together so they could be kept out the way, fitted the black earth cable to the screw at the back of the symphony and tucked the whole unit up to the top right of the head unit inside the dash. I got this from ebay for £30. I tested the sound quality with a small DAB radio and it was excellent. No more FM transmitters.

Drawer:

I got the elegance drawer from TheSkodaShop for £30 and it was really easy to fit. I dismantled it and drilled a hole for the 3.5mm jack for an MP3 player. That will sit in the drawer. I got the VRS sticker free with the 4 wheel centre logos that I bought from ebay. I'm not bothered that it is a slightly different style from the others.

It took me 40 mins to fit the lot this morning but over 2 hours messing about with it last night!

Looks good now. I'm really pleased with it.

Next on the list for fitting is:

Steering wheel centre logo (£5 from the group buy on this page)

Wheel centre logos (£8 for 4 from ebay)

Small VRS logos for the lower part of the door near the wheel arch (ST style)

Seat Cover Saga:

I also bought some universal seat covers from ebay for £30 with a plan to getting the VRS embroided on the back, but the fit was rubbish. I need to sell these on to get some money back.

Then I need to do some good reasearch into seat covers. I really don't want the climate/hatchbag ones. Leather is too expensive and the CLN covers claim to be excellent, the material samples were good but noone has experience of them.

If a leather retrim (seats only) was £500 I think a lot of people on here would get it. Increased business but less money per sale? Group buy?

I have *exactly* the same two components sitting at home waiting to be installed but the stereo release keys are on back order at skoda. How did you get the head unit out as none of the halfords keys ive tried fit

did you think about fitting the connect2 unit to the back of the drawer. one side that hasnt got the slide mechanism it looks like there would be enough room if you cut out the back of the door "shelf"

Hack saw blade snapped in half will do it...

Get the Kenwood ones £3.99 @ Halfords

I needed to get the connects2 unit and all its cables well out of the way to get the radio back in perfectly. Sitting at the back of the drawer would make this more difficult.

Glad you got the part ok!

Looks great with that vrs sticker...!

nice one - very neat install

Looks good. So that input lead, do you just plug it into the slot were your headphones go in on a MP3 player?

Thanks

Shaun

I stuck the VRS vinyl graphics on today

5430_1.jpg

I put them at the bottom, front corner of the doors. I'm really pleased with them.

They were £5 inc delivery from eBay UK Shop - Fazeley Sign Shop: BIKES LOGOS, SUBARU

Its fairly small so it doesn't look too chavvy. When i've washed the car ill take some pictures. Right now its a dull shade of grey rather than its normal black.

I also got my steering wheel centre logo stuck on. It goes on top of the skoda one and it also looks really good.

Now i've reached the limit of VRS logos that Ican have on my car without it looking stupid.

I still have these though:

£10.50 delivered from eBay UK Shop - numberplate shop: domed badges, show plates, truck stop

and for £1.99 delivered from eBay UK Shop - numberplate shop: domed badges, show plates, truck stop. to replace the scratched one on my key fob. I've seen these from over £7 on ebay. Too much for a tiny sticker.

I don't work for the numberplateshop honestly!

Seat covers next.

Looking good there..... These are two mods i've done myself..... The drawer i did last year and the connects 2 unit i've just done this last month or so in both our vRS's. I like the idea of running the cable in to the drawer. I ran mine down to the tray in front of the ashtray under the heater controls so the lead is still very hard to see when not in use. I put the box itself above the HU over to the left i think.

I also added vRS badges to the side of the car. I used the actual badges used on the back of the car and put them just above the bump strips at the front edge of the front doors. I also stuck one to the glovebox door too.

Cheers

Dave.

Where did you get the small one the mate?

how do you remove the cubby hole? is it just a yank job? or do u need to remove the stereo first?

Hmm, wonder if that Briskoda 'b' one is official, or if someone's making a few pennies via copyright infringement? ;)

where do you get that drawer? how does it open? do you push and it pops out or what?

does the cup holder fit the vrs too, theres no pics on the sit so im wondering where it goes? any one know and have pics? does it fit the VRS??

Nice work there. looks really good.

Fits the VRS, and all other Fabias.

Ill take a pic tomorrow and place it on there.

Unless someone can help beforehand

What did you use for the grounding point for the Connects2 unit?

What looks like it is supposed to be the ground on the back of the symphony (the screw near the connectors) is a t8 head and I haven't got a torx bit (or crimp!) small enough...

I had thought about splicing into either the glovebox light or the blower but I'm not keen on bridging circuits as that way lies noise (I guess...)

Does anyone know if the case of the symphony is grounded, there's a selection of t10 screws holding the various things onto the copper heatsink together - would they work??

If I were to work my way across to the fusebox (don't know how I would do this...) does anyone know which of the empty slots are actually wired to earth - I have bad memories of chasing an earth on a fusebox of a previous vag car. I know there'll be a bolted earth near the box but I don't want to risk messing things up...

Cheers!

deek.

I'm going to be anal now and tell you that there is a rubber tray insert for the elegance drawer - stops stuff rattling

Already there - I cut the neoprene from my old Polo's cubby hole down to size. Even stuck a little bit on the rear of the tray with good old carpet tape.

I even have a little grommet fitted round the hole for the headphone cable to pass through to stop the cable chaffing.

And I've found the perfect mounting spot for the unit (behind the three button blanks on the left hand side)

But i just need to sort out this grounding point...

I've also been cramming bits of pipe insulation around everything behind the glove box that had the slightest bit of movement and have tightened every reachable dash support bolt (although a bit too scared to go anywhere near the passenger airbag mounts) in my attempts to kill a really bad rattle (that my dealer claims doesn't exist). but, if I could just get this unit installed then I could just turn the ipod up to avoid the rattle... ;)

It's been a busy day... I just really want to get everything back together now...

Replied in your other thread.:thumbup::thumbup:

Cheers

Dave.

  • 10 months later...

very sorry to drag up an old thread, but that drawer is excellent, will it fit to a mk1 octy vrs?

Regards,

A

It's a single din, so maybe physically it'll go into a mk1 Octy, but it's shaped for the fabia dash and so might look completely out of place in an Octy.
