.....a corsa DI instead of a used ibiza TDI or new Furby TDI :finger: !!!! Yep my father has bought a 2 year old corsa DI :thumbdwn: Still at least it means I will still wop his bot up telegraph hill without too much effort  I dont know families, you cant live with them and you cant live without them!!!!

If it's the same diesel engine that my neighbour has got in his merivia, then it is a really good lump

A 1.7 DI so no turbo I'm guessing.......

Yeah is a 65bhp 16v lump which apparently whisks the Corsa to 60 in 13.5 seconds!

Chris

Tell him to drive it fast - to stand a chance of getting home before it breaks down - It's a Vauxhall!!

Really?

I've had 3 totally reliable Vauxhalls and would certainly have another, if the current range wasn't so ugly.

VX220 Turbo would be acceptable though ;)

Geoff I think the problem with Vauxhall is that they sell so many cars even if a small percentage are unreliable it's a huge number hence the reputation.

Apparently all 3 Astras doing the test drives at the NEC broke down too...

The 1.7 diesel engine isnt that bad, we had an astra van that went really well (non turbo). But a year before the lease was due to expire, we started having major problems. The dealer replaced half the engine, and a couple of months later the cambelt went after the water pump failed. The last we saw of it was when the lease company recovered it from our house on a tow truck, 6 months before the lease end as it was to expensive to repair. I think it was scrapped at 30 months old.

i had a 1.0 12v corsa and had no probs what so ever. never broke down and was actually quite quick if driven properly, handling was actually good considering the level and cost of the car. quite punchy as well the 3 cyl engine that was in it, just sounded a bit funny

Sorry I don't know how to include a quote - any advice?

Sorry - didn't mean to offend you - I too had a Vauxhall Astra (1986-1995) which will probably be the best car I will ever own - now theres a challenge for my 1 year old VRS. I replaced it with a used Cavalier, which despite the Network Q 115 point check, was clocked, an ex-mini cab and had a number of faults as a result of the true mileage being far in excess of that on the clock - hindsight is a wonderfull thing! The dealer wasn't interested and vauxhall even less. We later had hired Vectras and work, and I got through 5 brand new ones in a week with differeng faults - eventually I refused to have them and replaced them with 2 Passats - the start of the slippery slope with VW. We now have a Zafira, which is now OK, but a few teething problems. A friend of mine had a Zafira which spent most of it's first 4 months in the garage awaiting repairs! As a result of my experiences, particularly the Customer Service side, I have voved never to have a Vauxhall on my drive!

I think we must get this into perspective though. My previous experiences were with 2 Capri's (including a 2.0 S) and my 1.3 Astra Merit. I've also had a 1993 Golf for the last 3 years. These cars were less complex and certainly much better built. I think we have to be realistic, the complicated modern car is no match for the older, less complex model. The modern motor technician is also no match for the old mechanic - nowdays if the computer doesn't show a fault, theres nothing wrong, it it does, just change everything in sight!

I didn't really mean to knock Vauxhalls, whats important is that we are happy with our cars - initial thoughts of the VRS are good

It disturbs me to say this, but there are now at least 2 desirable vauxhalls. The Vx series, which has got to be a better everyday bet to a lotus, and the vauxhall *cough Holden cough* Monaro, which is surely the TVR of saloons.
