When Was Enough . . .. . . Enough?

Featured Replies

At what point did you decide that enough was enough in the power stakes?

So many members cars on here have had modifications to them to make them go better but i was just wondering what made you draw the line and why? :orb_readi

I mean did Lucifer :orb_devil himself appear to you in a vision and tell you to put that Garret GT30 under your bonnet or was it more of an angel :orb_angel that made you get a stage one chip?

There are so many options out there and stages from Ko3, Ko3s, Ko4, IHI etc etc just wondering why you went for what you did and more importantly why did you stop? :orb_squoo:orb_scare:orb_scrat:orb_coffe

I think the line is normally drawn by SWMBO or Bank Manager (I leave it up to you to work out who is the angel or lucifer;))...

From standard 180 to 230 with suspension is probably going to cost about 3K - 4K

If you go bigger turbo your going to pay that (+ more) again!!!

Its front wheel drive and anything more than 225bhp is absolutely useless. So just simple common sense and not wanting to waste a fortune on a Skoda.

:iagree:

There's always a list of things I want to do.

Reasonable cost really.

Anything thats big turbo related is big money

financial constraints are the only consideration really aren't they?

If we had bottomless pockets, we'd probably not be driving a skoda anyway, so it's bang-for-your-buck factor and what's technically available on the market as tuning options......

But I think, not withstanding those considerations.....

Enough........Is Never Enough

&

More is Good......All is Better.

I cant comment on the Octy & Fabia.

But on past cars, i tend to give up when i finally realise i'm pouring money away, never to be seen again.

Nowadays i'd rather spend a "subtle" amount of money, and enjoy buying things for the house/family, than putting it into a car.

Ok i dont know if it was how i worded it or something but EVERYONE who has replied seems to have gotten the wrong end of the stick!

My question (So i thought) was basically what made you go for the serious tuning package that you have and why?

Eg. There are poeple on here who seem to have purchased everything that say jabbaspot do so would potentially push through the 280bhp + area easily (IHI Stage 3 for eg) so can financially afford it but have chose stage 3 not 2 or 1 or even a dif turbo set up altogether, was just wondering what floated that particular persons boat so to speak?

I understand that the biggest issue will always the financial side of things and i know front wheel drive cars have their limits but this wasnt really what i was asking.

I mean no disrespect to anyone just not the replies i was looking for.

Why do you disagree? I would have thought any FWD with over that would torque steer like a bitch and as for putting the power down especially in the wet would be tricky to say the least. Just my 2 cents

I bought mine with it all done for the same money as a standard one :)

Im in the prosses of collecting bits and money for my custom FMIC then its Brakes, more saving, then big turbo. I am choosing to do this because, being a man, i always want more :)

Garry

I get no torque steer, and when being sensible can give it the beans without any break in traction - don't forget I fitted a high ratio diesel 6 speed gearbox to help with traction..... Sure it's not ideal, but it is perfectly possible, that is why I am in the process of increasing my power to 440-500bhp.

Luckily my pockets are deep, as I could've easily got a 'E39' M3 for the money I have spent on my vRS, but I love an under-dog, the poor relation, call it what you want.

For nearly everyone on this website reverse snobbery appeals in droves..... when I’ve $hat all over a 911's or Aston Martin's I’ve had quite possibly the world's biggest grin on my face, that is my motivation to keep improving something which is pretty dam good already.

Thats one of the best statements ever made on here :thumbup::thumbup:

As mine is standed cant comment on when to stop as i ahev not started but its the fact thats its the under dog that i like about it

Well said Steve  its the surprise factor that makes me smile, 300bhp + in a fwd car is perfectly ok if the set up is right.

Steve

I think what Steve says is right, im loving the look on high end sports car drivers faces when they see the Skoda badge "large" it the mirror

:rofl::rofl::rofl:You boys make me laugh.:rofl::rofl: Stick it into a hairpin in the wet and see how the sloppy pudding moves. You may well love your FRD Skoda vRS, but lets be honest it NEVER will be a track handling supercar like Astons or Porches. YES your VERY high powered FRD Skoda is fast in a straigt line, but you still look cheap in your Skoda as most cars and pushbikes pass you on a sharp bend:D

My Porch doesn't corner very well - it's attached to the house.

Sorry, couldn't resist!

I bet your Skoda parked out side cheapens the whole harpin cornering porch experience. You could detach it from the house and shed some weight, it may handle better. Obviously not as well as a pushbike you Skoda owning cheapsgate you.;)

Perhaps you should have come to the handling day at North Weald?

Then you could have seen how properly set up Octy vRS's really do handle in the wet on a large course with loads of bends, it was really wet or rather a Tsunami?

No complaints about mine or certain others.

Ay pal, $od all wrong with getting clothes from George @ ASDA......

You've got a point there too, it's normally old women who go speeding past, you'd think their wicker baskets would hamper their aerodynamics and cause extra drag......terrible....what is happening to society these days......

No_b:rolleyes:

For me - managed to save a fortune (and have a lotta fun) by doing/fitting all my mods with my own two hands.

That plus having some really good mates who have helped out getting the bits to me and advising on how to fit them.

As far as power goes, there's a famous Yank saying - " If a little is good, much more is better and way too much is just about right".....
