I wonder if they have incorporated a separate phone mic in them so that you could fit the mic at the top of the door pillar

I've come across the UK distributor for Witson products:

E-Store Global - Leading Distributers for In Car Entertainment

Trying to work out the difference between the 780 and the 782 at the moment. Logic says the 782 is the newer unit as the number's higher! But does it mean better? Logic then departs when the price of the 782 is less than the 780 price :)

Steve

Now that the UK is going digital, if you bought a free view box would you be able to get DAB radio through one or would you need to get a DAB decoder, and how would you connect one up

E-Store Global - Leading Distributers for In Car Entertainment

UK radio is not going digital for many years, only the TV side is. Carry on with good old analogue radio, the current DAB system is not very good and can sound a lot worse than FM. Some stations are mono on such a low bitrate they sound like poor internet streaming.

Freeview - Home / Channels

I think I have the answer here, as stated the UK is going digital with the TV so with a free view box you would get all the free view radio channels, but as you cannot watch TV on the move you would have to do is bypass the handbrake switch so you can listen to them on the move

We have already gone digital up here in the Borders and the picture quality is really good

I would say that TV signals be it analogue or digital are a "bit too directional" to be any good in a car

I recon europe may follow the US and go to satellite radio for cars

I was there recently and my hire car had one in it - was really quite good

just read this whole thread *phew* - it's been mentioned that the 780 and 782 are the same, it's just the button positioning that's been moved about

as for the thread... conclusion appears to be that these are great as a Sat Nav option, but due to the fact they are locked down, they offer little more with a non-too great interface and many reports listing problems (dvd playback etc)... but you get what you pays for i guess :)

Hello Guys. I just read the whole thread, but unfortunately I am still confused. So finally what is your opinion. Which is the best device. My friends and members of Skoda Club Bulgaria are planning to make a group purchase of at least 7 devices, but still have not taken the decision.

First idea was for Columbus RNS 510, but it came up, that the available one is with part No. 3T0035680, which is for Superb II. The one for Octavia II is 1Z0035680A. Due to this some of the CAN functions are not working. We tried to get some info from the owners of SuperSkoda.com is it possible the Superb II device to be reprogrammed for Octavia II, but unfortunately no one of them paid attention to our inquiries. So we decided to leave the Columbus and to ask for the Zenec device. The ZE-NC5602, as I see from your posts will be available during Q2 of 2009. But still we can not get this info - will the device keep all functions of the display (displaying info of the Parking assistant, Air-conditioning system, Original phone kit) when the original multimedia system be replaced. I have to note, that all cars (potential customers) are equipped with Original phone kit, Multi-functional steering wheel, Amplifier with 12 loudspeakers and external audio in - all they communicating through CAN bus. I saw all the devices you offer, but which one is the best. Which one will have international warranty and which one will execute all CAN functions. One of our members has the Chinese device. It works pretty nice as long as you do not ask for Parking assistant and Automatic air-conditioner. But if you eventually try to use these 2 functions it remains either silent or displays "Device error"

I will appreciate any response regarding my, sorry - OUR questions.

Kind regards.

What you want is only possible with the Columbus (or Amundsen if it's a facelift model).

To me the Zenec looks te best (current model or new model

The nem model has TMC, both have RDS, both have steering wheel controls.

Neither show climatronic info or PDC info's.

They have bluetooth so the OEM bleutooth won't work.

The Chinese units are less user friendly imho.

Hello All

Sorry been away from this thread for so long. Anyway I have managed to upgrade ish the microhphone on my unit. I simply desoldered the wires to the mic and fitted longer wires to a new mic which is bigger (from maplin code is FS43W) this appears to be better but still not brilliant. But I have saved the best until last the menu graphics are now Editable! For all the details check out this thread

Witson D720v - Menu's Now Editable - VW GTI Forum / VW Rabbit Forum / VW R32 Forum / VW Golf Forum - Golfmkv.com you cannot edit where you touch or the menus but it still gonna look loads better. Anyway Im gonna work on some new menus as we speak.

Well I've been Witson fitted for a couple of weeks (thanks to Wardy)

Generally happy with it, although the FM signal can be a little weak at times.

cheers ... Darren

Thanks for the link to the SunEdit shell editor thing (its damn hard to use)

What about a pre-amp for your external mic

this :- Universal Preamplifier Module > Maplin

Cheers

Any one still intrested in these units?

Well i went and bought one, a Witson W2-D782S. Oh dear what a headache it has turned out to be. First of all the wiring adapter has a blue wire pinned to nothing on the original skoda quadlock!! what it is for i don't know, but it does need a live feed.

Second, it just switches itself off after anything between 1 min and 17 min (longest i got it going for).

I have heard a clicking noise (like a pulse) through the speakers, then a fairly loud bang/thud through them. Then all power is lost to the unit and it seems to reset itself, then starts the pulse noise again????

Maybe something like Dany-Red had?

I contacted the guy i bought it from at TRADESOLUTION HK LTD ,can't come up with a solution. If i need to return it, it is going to cost about £40 each way!!

I have also contacted Bob at Witson :banghead: not much use there.

Any one with any ideas would be much apreciated, besides floging it on fleabay

can't spell

Hi markticktock,

I changed the controller unit. I mean for controller unit the little black box that is in the middle from the unit to the car. I spent about 100 euros but I solved it.

Of course, is not a nice solution but I was be sick and tired of that problem.

Now I still have to send the defected one back to the seller but I'm not so confident to gain something.

This part is named also CAN BUS DECODE.

You can now change the backgrounds to new ones check out my post above.

Hi T-1000,

but if I remember well you get the W2-D780S on a Octavia.

Firmware modification you suggest has Seat logo?

Firmware that I'm looking for is to improve the unit and change the ipod player that on W2-782S is very poor :thumbdwn:

I'm waiting for new ZENEC unit... when I will find money :o

With the SunPlus Edit software you can change the backgrounds to whatever you want to. I edited the chaps Seat backgrounds and made my own with Skoda badging. You are right you cannot edit the actual firmware only the backgrounds but it cetainly will make it look better but I cannot get it to update.
