Cheap Ebay Alternative to MFD2 installed.

Featured Replies

Has anyone else fitted a Witson W2-D782S to there octavia 2 with any succsess?

I know Danny-red has, with alot of trouble.

My Witson W2-D782S keeps switching itself off randomly so have returned to Witson today. They keep saying it is not the unit that is faulty, it is not compatable with my car???? I didn't know there was any other Octavia 2 made!!

Word of advise, if you are going to buy an aftermarket unit, try and get one localy, because it cost me £50 to return it, weeks of emails and no guarantee they will do anything about it.

Learn by my mistake.

If you paid by credit card you can get a full refund from the card company and they will get the money back from the company

Yes, i paid with paypal so have set up a dispute with them, see if seller does something about it now!!;)

Depending if i ever get my W2-782S back, does any one know where i could find a .bin firmware file to change the screens using the sunplus software? The icons on the 780 are in a different place so won't work.

Hi to all!

Just bought and installed a brand new Columbus MFD3 to my -07 Octavia RS. Now I have just a few questions to fellow Octavians. Whicht is the newest Scandinavian / European map for MFD3 and have you found anything like invisible shield for MFD3? I tried to find something but without any success..

I also installed maxidot and what a great navigationsystem I now have. I really think it was worth 1.500 euros.

BTW, has anyone tried how the TV tuner works in MFD3? Is it worth buying for?

The first big one is still a Witson, and no, the buttons don't all work as the CAN is based on the China market Passat which doesn't resemble the Octi2.

The 2nd one I've no idea about.

I dont have any buttons on my vrs steering wheel.... :D

In this case, talk to that Bob person from Witson and ask about the Skoda version. I know for sure a guy over here is importing them.

with it having a built in PC that would be good for the new Scottish taxi private hire laws that are coming in November

350z GPS pictures by nurrishd - Photobucket

which basically involves buying a chinese window ce board off ebay and rolling their own units - seems to be growing momentum among the 350z bods. They're putting together their own versions of the units in this thread, helped I suppose by the fact that their dash has a nice rectangular hole into which they can fit this thing while keeping the stereo amp.

All you would need would be the shell of a suitable unit, or someone willing to make a facia plate. Personally, I don't think CE offers the pace or flexiblity; I'd go down a passively-cooled mini-itx route myself.

pc 1002 1000USD,no in stock now.=605.70003 British pound

PC1002 -Waywell

Which is more than columbus for an inferior unit.

Can you get these to fit the Mk1 Octy? Or similar unit? Something OEM looking

This would suggest nothing associated with iGo.exe.

How did you install iGO?

Perhaps not quite the same , but to install TomTom7, I had to enter Wince5 main screen (it's all hidden from normal use) by installing a piece of software onto the unit. Then choose it as the .exe start up. From there execute the .cab file associated with TT7. Once installed, choose .exe for TT7. I know you Have iGO but a similar procedure may help.

Hi mrlapou,

witch piece of software you have installed? I found some videos on you tube, but not this piece of software.

Does anybody know how i find a *.bin file from the WITSON 782S for editing with sunplusedit?

I just bought Maisun MT6502 from Auspack Electronics in Melbourne.

Installed the unit and it works great.

Just a few minor user interface annoyances, but great value for money.

Great support from Rob at Auspack Electronics too. Beats dealing direct with China.

My car is fitted with the 12 speakers sistem and Audience head unit +Amp. As I know the Amp is powering up only with the CAN signal from the head unit.

Would be possible to replace the Audience with an alternative for MFD2 and make it work with the actual Amp and sound sistem?

Can somebody please explain to me why people will insist on fitting these units instead of pukka Columbus RNS? Its quite obvious from reading through this and the many other posts on the subject that they are poor quality and cause numerous issues. Why can't we simply treat these in the same way as "fake" VCDS interfaces and simply not even discuss them on the forums?

Sorry if this sounds a bit stroppy but come on guys, the cheap far east units are complete rip offs and i'm still astounded people are willing to chance their arm sending money for them not to mention the possibility of causing damage to the electrical systems of their vehicles.

They may look the same as a Columbus but believe me they are not even close.

Respect for your opinion. But I would have apreciate a real support.

Respect for your opinion. But I would have apreciate a real support.

This was a general observation and not aimed at you.

In response to your question; to be honest its a bit of an open question anyway. Like most manufacturers, Skoda uses DIN standards with a custom fascia so yes I'm sure you could do it - replace the Audience with and "alternative" however you would be wise to consider either keeping what you've got or fitting a "genuine" Skoda unit.

To qualify my comments; You already have a quality product in the Audience, abiet one which may not have the features you want. I would stake a bet that it sounds better than one of the "alternative" units and will last longer. I've heard on of these "alternative" units and in my humble opionion it sounded rubbish. It felt cheap and I've seen better displays on the cheapest knock-off netbook available from your local car boot sale - dim and low resolution and certainly not up to the quality of the Siemens units.

You could probably fit a Pioneer or Alpine etc which would offer a real option to the "alternative". Personally I like Alpine for their sound quality but like anything, you have to realise yiou will pay a considerable premium over the "alternative"............

I suppose the saying "you pays your money and takes your choice" would apply here.

I have bought 782 for 530$ through DHL. It not Columbus but also the price very much not the big. Chinese witson is capable to give much. It costs this money.

But it the crap. Many wires, the Skippy say - much headache. Having happy Columbus make good the very!

I use this dung already half a year. If it is possible to be dung happy then for this money I am happy :D .Probably Skippy it was not simple happiness with 782 :( .I think for Columbus is unreal expensively cost. It should cost more cheaply. Then it will not be necessary witson
