Cheap Ebay Alternative to MFD2 installed.

Featured Replies

Possibly cheaper, but the Witson unit has an OEM appearance wheras the other units on the site you mentioned don't. I think to many people here, one of the main factors in the volume of interest in the Witson units is this OEM appearance. :)

I agree with you me friend...Thats the reason i bought witson w-782 and i veeery pleased with the device....

I confirm, NO RDS on this unit with radio mode.

Does that mean it doesn't do Traffic Announcements either?

How long after order has taken that you get the unit from U.K.? I make an order 3.10 and still waiting..

At my door 10 days from order :)

If you can connect a TMC receiver to it (connector on the back) the nav software can work with it. TA I guess is not there either, as there's also no RDS.

I just got the message from Rob and he wrote that next delivery from China will come early next week, so maybe I can get it at the end of next week.

I confirm what you said.

Also no RDS means no informations by the radio stations and no automatic research of better frequency in low signal case.

But what do you mean about the TMC receiver? And is there a special connector on the back?

one comment about Witson units.

It's cheaper and nice but assistance is poor and some functions like ipod are unusable: Noboby tell you that doesn't support ipod over 20Gb.

I have an 80Gb but is not possible to play with it.

Also, do someone know how to play music in random mode or play music during navi mode?

Also, how to adjust volume of the bluetooth phone?

Witson doesn't respond to my emails.

I'm thinking to change the unit and take the Alpine W505 model...

Hi dany-red, I'll buy the witson unit off you. 100 euro OK ? :D :D

I'm not saying there is one. Just that if one happened to be there, TMC is a very nice feature to have.

Just tried a new Nav software today, called Sygic Drive. It's as close as possible to a Tomtom without actually being one. Too bad it still has some quirks when routing, otherwise I would have rated it higher than Garmin Mobile XT and Igo 2006. Shame...

Apologies if these questions have been asked before but can anyone tell me if the Witson W2-D780S (the one on eBay - HERE):

1. Connects to the 6 x disc autochanger in the boot?

2. Is the unit complete or do I require any other parts like new fascia etc..?

3. Is the audio playback quality that much better than the Stream MP3?

4. Connects to the Steering wheel controls?

5. Does it have an internall hard disk or just have the SD Card feature?

Again sorry for the newby questions!

1. I don't know but I think so...

2. the unit is supplied completed for the specific car model.

3. I never heard the Stream MP3 but the quality is acceptable (but Not good enough for me :D)

4. Yes, it has the possibility to connect to the Steering wheel by the canbus; I don't have the Steering wheel on my Octy)

5. There isn't any hard disk. You can store yor multimedia files into the SD, DVD or through usb cable.

Spotted this Columbus on ebay - is it worth considering despite the higher price compared to aftermarket ones, and can anyone spot anything fishy about it?

yes its worth considering, but that columbus is expensive. I paid £700 for mine from ebay, keep looking and you may find one pop up. Also search for other things, like RNS-510, MFD3 as some skoda units get listed incorrectly.

My Witson is on the way (cheers Micky32) but I have had some dealings with this seller and he / she is ok. If I could afford an Columbus then I would most certainly be fitting one in the Roomster. But I can't at the moment and in the interests of pushing Project vRoomster along I am going for a Witson.

I have seen Columbus's go for the price Manny was saying so if it's a columbus you wan't, keeo an eye out and £700 in your back pocket :)

Yeah, the bit that says "Item is in perfect condition like new!! 100% perfect working" sounds a bit worrying for a brand new system  unless of course its a 2nd hand unit?

They are not brand new though, very few of the oem ones are. They are either removed from written off cars, or factory refurb units. The only place you can get a brand new one officialy, is as an optional extra on a brand new car or as an accessory from the dealer. Mine is a factory refurb, and has been installed nearly 2 months now and works perfectly. You can buy one over the counter in a dealer, but they will relieve you of £2.5K for the privilege.

After seeing all the niggly problems buyers of the brand new witson units have, I am glad I went for the columbus. The user interface is leaps ahead of the witson, which seems to have weaknesses in most areas.

Two days ago I also picked one up for £700 so this is a little bit high.

However....

While I was looking to buy one I saw the exact same one you've listed.

Notice he has a Buy It Now or Best Offer?

I offered him £700 and he countered with £800.

OK, still £100 more than me and a few others have paid, but also less than I've seen them go for.

So if you decide to go for it, offer him £700 and see what he says.

I have been watching this thread for quite some time now.

I find that whilst the MFD2 integrates really nicely - the usability lets it down badly.

I am really tempted by the witson unit, just to gain touch screen functionility... but will lose the Maxidot display for driving directions.

After a trek to London via Wembley and not being able check the route whilst sat in traffic I was almost tempted to replace it with a TomTom

I would also be concerned about the lack of RDS and TMC.

If I could find a buyer of my MFD2 for £300 and a RNS 510 for £650 that would be a reasonable upgrade as a good TomTom would be around £200

£300 for an MFD2 should be a price you could get - looking at past and present EBay auctions that seems a good price.

£650 for an RNS510 maybe pushing things a little - £700 - £850 seems to be the going rate.

I had a Tom Tom 730 which was a good piece of kit.

I sold that for £225 (only lost £25 on what I'd paid for it) and then sold loads of other things to fund my RNS510.

I'm still awaiting the delivery of my RNS510 but from what I'm told I'm really not going to regret the purchase.

It is going into a vehicle that I will be keeping for at least the next 3 years so I'll get my money worth.

:D For 100 euro I can show you how the unit works...:D

not very well from your reports...:P

what worries me (apart from the general financial meltdown!) is the thieving toe rags.

I don't garage my car and would worry some scrote would have a go.

Not that I live in a high crime area.

Anyone heard of the built in units being pinched?

Thanks for that - I'll do some more searching.

Okey dokey - I'll give that a go too...he can only say no!

I was thinking the same, so I sent him a question and he replied: it is only about 2 months old and still in an perfect condition. I get all my units from test or crash cars. All are tested and 100% working fine. I also offer an warranty...

UPDATE: Can do GPS with add in. Reply from UK supplier below.

got a reply on the Zenec

The ZE-MC5600 is a double din moniceiver head unit without intergrated GPS Navi but just like the VW unit ( ZE-MC2000) you can use the ZE-NA2000 navigation upgrade box which can be externally plugged in to the unit to allow it have navigation.

The ZE-MC5600 has not reached us in the UK yet and it is part we should have in stock very soon.

Best Regards,

Liam Glover
