Chalk up another sump-smasher

Featured Replies

I damaged my sump , but being alloy I got it welded up for a £10. 5 years later its still going strong. Its worth looking into getting it repaired before slashing out on a new one.

When I knackered mine the garage said they could weld it. That was until they examined it........................................

Welcome to the club, done mine too!

Luckily I had a much shorter recovery time, only 3 or so hours....

well, it looks to be in better condition than 2 of the 3 sumps i destroyed. the first one, i fell off the edge of a bad road and put a fairly large hole in it, the 2nd time, the car bottomed out of a rock and tore a hole in that one, the third (and hopefully final time) the car rested on a rock while i had 14 ppl in it and was tryin to negotiate my driveway. cheers

wtf. 14? That beats my 7 record.

the hole will be in the biddle of the right hand suff, where the plug goes :)

bare in mind, i drive an estate. or as one of my friends jovially called it, "a bus".

i was wondering, though, what is the part number for a sump guard, and what is the approximate cost of one?

cheers

OOoo, just spotted this! Ouch!

Sump guards are about 200-300 quid aren't they?

Sorry to here, did similar things in a Mini many years ago...and it was caught on camera...i was a silly silly boy then.

Anyhoo, anyone know how much the actual sump will cost?

Just had a call from Boyced, hes just nutted his sump.

I think I paid about £80. for a new sump - mine didn't go around the drain hole, I punctured mine on a rock in the road leaving quite a large tear.

The sump guards are available from Skoda for circa £160.

ouch!

just come back from a 1500 mile jaunt in and around the york area. theres some mighty fine roads up there! quite a few places like that, where you can see marks that show quite a few poeple have had the same sort of trouble :)

luckily i was in a octy 1.9tdi ambiente for the trip, and i'd have had a hard time scraping bits out on that!

sounds like you got away without too much damage apart from the sump though

Bit late to the thread Col.

Sorry to hear about it :(

But then again if you will drive like a tw@...... :D

Glad you're ok, but who would have thought there would be places in the Lakes where a car could leave the ground  We need more signs, lots of them, I know the Lakes are beautiful and additional signs might detract from that, but it's more important that sporting drivers can drive by signs instead of reading the road

By the way, that's not a dig at the driver (who hasn't tried to wriggle out of it), more an observation at the compensation culture society we live in.

Dave.

there are roads around me which have warning signs for every little thing, i guess the lakes want to minimise the signs as not to make it an eye sore.

Sorry to hear.

My suggestion is to pick a really nasty speed bump in your area and claim off the council for ripping your sump off. If it doesn't work out your no worse off than before.

speed limits are exactly that, maximums not targets.

They're also targets - usually.

Sorry to hear.

Yeah, because we all want to pay for it.

Dave.
