Featured Replies

the vr6 was done with a totaly custom subframe and a golf gear box using custom drive-shafts. if you ask me thats not putting a bugger engine in a felicia. thats making a kit car.

i imagine it was more likely to have been a mk3 golf subframe and track control arms/driveshafts/hubs etc adapted to fit the bottom of a felicia.... which is fine if you have tons and tons of money to chuck at it

somethink like that, i saw a speck sheet for it once, and it just read "custom subframe" i think it was one that fab'ed them selfs.

i think i've managed to source some of the vital components i need from the diesel-engined felicia.... gonna be really busy for a few days so i'll update when i can :D

just for everybody's info, in the felicia with the diesel engine, the engine leans forwards roughly 15 degree from upright measured at the crank centreline. so that is the same angle at which i'm going to have to mount this engine which might make it so i cant shut the bonnet.... i'll cross that bridge when i come to it :D

I think your going to be busy for more than just a few days with this.... hehe

Great project tom!

Oh and a thought i had some time ago... what is the likelyness of a fabia vRS engine fitting into a felicia???

Anthing can be done given enough time and enough skill with a welder. An chap I know on a caddy forum has a MK1 Caddy running fulll VR6 running gear using all the MK3 subframe, dash, climatronic the whole lot. Some of the conversions done on ED38 are mind blowing, Corrados with 4Mo engines and full haldex running gear, twin 4Mo engined Lupo etc etc, most of them home brew as well.

done a bit more research on this today at lunch time, it id possible to use the 1.6 flywheel and 190mm clutch on the 2.0 engine, but i'm looking at using the flywheel and 200mm clutch from the diesel model, this would also mean i need to use the diesel starter motor...

i was thinking a more likely candidate for a diesel engine transplant would be one of those 3 cylinder 1.4pd jobbies, should be fairly easy:)

was scratching my head earlier with regards to the engine mounting, so i quickly knocked out an mdf template, just need to cut a bit off the bottom right corner then see if it fits on there before i go machining up a piece of aluminium

there's 2 choices, the starer motor and flywheel must be used as a matched set because the ring gear is slightly different.

1. flywheel, clutch (190mm) and starter motor from a 1600 felicia

or

2. flywheel, clutch (200mm) and starter motor from a diesel felicia

i've got a flywheel and a brand new clutch here from a 1600 but i'm leaning towards using the diesel stuff

next i've turned my attention to the inlet/fuel system,

100_0140-edit.jpg

notice this arrangement has air fed injectors which allows a small amount of air in as the injectors squirt, presumably this makes better emissions or something, in an effort so simplify the installation and keep pipework etc to a minimum i'm going to bin that and fit some standard bosch type top feed injectors from a mk3 golf gti.... must make sure i wear extra big undies for my next scrapyard trip:rolleyes:

i think i might need to modify the cylinder head exhaust ports slightly, notice there is small holes adjacent to the ports, this is where air is fed into the exhaust from the aux air injection pump, if you are planning on doing a conversion like this it's worth remembering that not all of the 2.0 8v engines have these holes in them but it depends what engine code you use.

i have 2 choices, either i can put a little blob of weld into each hole then file it flat, or i can tap a thread into the hole and fit a grub screw in there to block it off

drill an tap mate.

unevan heat on a head is always best avoided.
