Modification...Modification...Modification

Please help me out. THIS IS A SUPER RANT!!!

I am finding some things difficult to understand here. I have seen many posts now asking the most pointless questions (in my mind anyway) about modifications? I was brought up believing that "less is more"

less-is-more.jpg

I can totally understand, when you start your driving career in a clapped out old Mini, Fiesta or Nova (or similar) when your 17 - you soon realize it is a cr*ppy excuse of a car! OK. you get you 10 piece tool kit and do some tweaking here and there. Back then it was a money thing when you were young - unless you got rich parents - you add you back box and a bit of tinkering and cans of aerosol paint to get in the gang to cruise the streets.

batmobile-babe-magnet.jpg

BUT...If you are maybe 10 - 15 years down the line in your driving career you have now got the money. I have not seen many spotty 17 driving an Oactavia RS (insurance + fuel costs it's a no no), so I can surmize you are all 10-15 years or more into your driving. Right...you go out and select the best car in your budget (in this case Skoda Octavia RS) which is a great car. Obviously we spend a fair bit of money on the purchasing the one you like. Now you got a real performance car and not that embarrassing banger 10 - 15 years ago you'd rather forget.

skoda-octavia-2-rs-02big.jpg

So..Why O' Why are nearly all performance car drivers (except me) obsessed with adding a horse-power here and a horse-power there?

Adding the latest plastic bits and tacky rubbish from Halfords - you know..Chequer Mats...window stickers saying "Fusion, Kenwood,Alpine etc " a screen sticker saying "Octavia RS" like you might forget...Derrr I bloody hate lexus lights. they don't even look good on a lexus? Neons and blue side lights. bonnet washer neons... eWe!! Angel Eyes... how naf especially when there not on a Beamer.

default.jpg

If you want more horsepower why did you bother to waste the money in the first place on a car that obviously didn't quite have the horsepower you were satisfied with? see my point - go and buy yourself an Evo something..you know the plastic thing from Taiwan.

This is a list of the mods one of the members on this forum reckons hes done...? What is all this jargon - hes got much more disposable income (no kids or wife) or had his house re-mortgaged recently and maxed out his credit cards.

Jabbasport's; IHI Stage 3 vf34 roller bearing turbo, ceramic lined manifold, F.M.I.C, boost controller, ABD Racing ceramic inlet manifold & CAI, K&N monster filter, 02M 6 speed TDi gearbox, Peloquin a.t.b, Sachs SMF & sports clutch, Forge quickshift, APR R1, Blueflame 3" downpipe, 100 cell race cat, Milltek 2 ¾" system, SamcoSport; intercooler, turbo & boost hoses, Bosch 440cc green-top injectors, S3 M.A.F, S3 A.S.R, SuperPro poly bushes all round + engine mounts, Weitec coilovers, Eibach rear arb, AP Racing 6 pots & 335mm floating discs, S3 top & bottom braces, Nomad; turbo, oil pressure, oil temperature & battery gauges.

To me that just is rubbish. What on earth does all this stuff do that my Octavia RS doesn't? I would bet all that stuff added on one car makes it, hell to drive, hell to maintain, hell to insure and if it all works in some kind of strange mechanical harmony you will probably get to hell much faster than most mortals. People obsessed with horse-power and mods obviously watched Fast and the Furious to many times like my 4 year old Zac did a while ago?

If I want a much better handling car I would have bought a better car - If I wanted a faster car I would have bought a better car - If I wanted a tacky car packed with DIY wounds I would have bought that old Nova back from 10 - 15 years ago! I hate to see you buy a good car and f*ck it all up.

There is a guy near me in his Lexus lit, limo tinted, speed humped bugger ed, bonnet louvered, after-market alloys clad, back box boyz gang Octavia RS driver. What a pile of sh*it!!! he is the most aggressive and obnoxious driver I've ever come across. He is all over the road and beeps cars that don't drive 20mph over the speed limit. He always is darting in-and-out petrol stations to put a fiver in and McDonalds to top up his great complexion. Now is his driving normal among the Octavia drivers that add all that tuning gear mentioned above. perhaps thats why his car doesn't drive straight or at a constant and controlled speed.

Some of you bang on about the Octavia's pedigree and how Skoda developed it? yet your the same people also discussing the best springs and dampers....Skoda Standard ones are good...you said Skoda spent ages developing them..so why advise that Koni or whoever's are best...they don't make Skodas and I bet they never tested them on a Skoda.

Skoda-Octavia-WRC-001.jpg

So unless your racing why bother setting up cambers and ride hight etc....If you are racing about you are probably just like the obnoxious tw*t of driver who lives near me, who has to get in front of you at the lights and got to out maneuver you when theres fast and slow moving lanes to pee you off...This just says to me "Bell-End"

STOP IT! RANT OVER:eek:

just got in from work, and read this.

THANK YOU, Bananaman, for making me laugh.

However, my home made mesh front grill gives my car at least 212bhp over and above standard, so....

PHHHHHHRRRRRRRRP! Jog on!!

When you bought your house did you decorate it to how you wanted it? If you needed more space did you extend or move house?

It's all about your taste. Some people are happy to buy a car and use it to get from A-B and some people enjoy their cars and have them as a hobby. Why not modify them? we are happy to waste what little money we get spare and for me is my only escape from work and family life. I would have liked to have kept my vrs but the mileage I was doing meant it wasn't viable but I now have a car that's almost as much fun but costs alot less than the vrs and it's a bit more special to me than a standard vrs.

I think you will find that there are only a handfull of people on this site that act like your lexus oik. You can answer this by asking yourself how many octavia's have you seen drive like that? there will always be 1 or 2 of every car out there, it doesn't mean we are all like that.

We all have a love for the car/brand/club. come along to a meet somewhere and see what we are all really about, if you still think it's a waste of time then you can always leave.

I asked this very question a year or two ago, though not in such an amusing way as yourself.

I think the reason is "because we can". I know that half of the things I've done to my car add no value, and some probably detract from it, but I know it's unique, personal to me, and I love the car. I've owned it for over four years and I'm not bored with it or considering changing. It does all the things I need, and has from new, but why not improve stuff, add power, whatever. Pointless in a way but it makes me happy.

but why not improve stuff, add power, whatever. Pointless in a way but it makes me happy.

perfectly explained

I think your missing the point here

Yes if you start adding wide wheel arches and max power bonnets and 20" spinner wheels then I would have to agree with you..........

My car looks the same as any other standard Octavia Vrs but it drives totally different from the standard car ;)

As for saying people on here who have spent money on the VRs and F*ucked them all up

Out of the box the Octavia Vrs is an ok car (IMO) with a few tweaks here and there you can make it a whole lot better drivers car

Hi Guys

Cars are status symbols. and people use them as an extention of their personality. All the way through history people would have tried to have the best horse, The finest sword etc. Do you think that the king of a tribe would have a normal Chariot? in fact if you know your history you would know that the king of the Germanic tribes had a chariot which indeed had a K&N Monster filter and a Eibach Rear arb. Just to set To him aside from the rif raf.:D

On a serious note. Chill its their money:)

I am an obnoxious tw*t of driver and notorious bell end, that's why I mod my car. :D

All those like myself please add your name;

PS where can I get a spoiler like the one in your pic. I hope they sell them in Halfords as I can use my store card and earn points.

Very amusing, Bananaman, although verging on personal abuse in places. I've edited it slightly to remove this element. Please remember the rules.

Simply because we can and you can make a good car better!

My girlfriend often informs me that I "drive like a tw*t" and "stop looking at that girl you ****". So I'm probably some sort of driving ******* too. I have technically grown out of it, but I still do it sometimes, just for fun.

Also, inspect my modifications list, I hope it annoys you. Note how I've even put fancy light bulbs in the car. I must be such a git. Hate me you mother!

Great rant :D

I agree with the others, we do it because we can and it makes us happy.

I did it more when I was in my early 20's with the quintessential "chav spec" Fiesta but will probably do one or two things to the vRS. It personalises it as well - see chariot post above :)

buying a cheaper car and then modifying it can and does still work out cheaper than buying a better car in the first place. I could spend a few grand on my vRS and make it better than a Focus RS (cue debate over what "better" means) - and it would still come to about £4000 less than just buying a Focus RS in the first place. To paraphrase the sig of someone on here, "no-one expects a Skoda" :D

It would be a very boring forum if nobody discussed modifications... would just be the odd "I saw so-and-so the other day" or "my air conditioning has a problem" posts... :)

I suspect your 4 green valve caps will be the start of the slippery slope...

Proud of my mods, doubly so because I did virtually all of them with my own hands. Nice little car, a lot of fun to drive.

If I was into the "look at what I'm driving, I'm important" game, I would have bought summat far far more expensive.....But Im not and very happy with the car.

Enjoy this sig too

Bas

I mod cars because I like doing it, and there are worse ways of spending money.

Oh, and I'm 22... merely 5 years into my driving career, am I an "obnoxious tw*t" too?

People who modify will modify, no matter what the car is. You say "go get an Evo if you want more power"; people will just remap that, or add a bigger turbo, or put some coilovers on it.

I'd bet that most people who modify would tinker with a Veyron if they could afford it!

And people with genuine performance mods (such as those you've quoted) are in quite a different league to the "Lexus lit, limo tinted, speed humped bugger ed, bonnet louvered, after-market alloys clad, back box gang" that you speak about.

And I've also never run around in a shed. All my cars have been decent a respectably tidy - no matter what the purchase price was. From a £140 Toyota Corolla up to my new Fabia vRS and my current Octavia vRS. I take pride in what I drive, and I take care of it.

Perhaps you shouldn't make wild accusations about young people?

Very amusing, Bananaman, although verging on personal abuse in places. I've edited it slightly to remove this element. Please remember the rules.

Yeah, but it still made me laugh...

and now I'm going to add all my mods to my sig. Which means I'll need an extra line!

Oh and in reply to your question: "What on earth does all this stuff do that my Octavia RS doesn't?"

It goes, stops, handles and rides better than yours and my standard car.

All things are rehashed and re done and improved upon EVERYTHING in life is improved upon by one way or another EVEN you have improved your car, you brought an octy I presume its not your first car, However I have lightly modded mine and I have had the same car for more then 6 years, for 4 of those it was standard now with a sprinkling of gold dust its like a different car like a new car! and I have spent a whole lot less doing it then buying a different car like you.

Have you posted this post on the Ferrari forum? I mean look at the Enzo, Ferrari themselves re hashed it into a FXX, or maybe the 911 forum? or Lambo? or BMW?, EVERY car makers forum?.

They all rehash the same car over and over, however those amongst us with a sprinkling of brain matter have decided to rehash our car slightly to improve and make different thus saving money.

Life my dear special needs friend is about evolution, life is about change and moving on, you do not wear the same clothes you where 1st put in, or have the same life you first made for yourself, you have changed alot of aspects in your life and makers of things have done the same and owners of things have done this also.

In your defense yes their are some retards out their whom do stupid things in my eyes but in their eyes and many people like them I'm the retard for not seeing what they are doing is good or evolving.

And my friend next time your driving around look and see the amount of ***** on the road and then count how many of them drive modded cars, my car is my baby and like my son's I do not chuck them or treat them like ****, she is loved and cared for like my children, its people in bogo cars that are the ****s, people that are so shallow they cant accept the world as it is, people that are so stupid they cannot see what life is about, people so pathetic they think they are right all of the time and everybody else is a fool, people so retarded they cannot see what is happening right in front of their eyes, basically people like you.

One might wonder why you are hear, the fishing lakes are that way ----->
