Please help me out. THIS IS A SUPER RANT!!!

Erm, have you had your car remapped by Revo??

since when was a standard mk1 Octavia vRS a high performance vehicle?

in fact if you know your history you would know that the king of the Germanic tribes had a chariot which indeed had a K&N Monster filter and a Eibach Rear arb. Just to set To him aside from the rif raf.:D

I hope he's coming to the SE area rolling road day then...

Short answer - because we can!! And sometimes there actually isn't a "standard car" that does everything we want out of the box.

Jabbasport's; IHI Stage 3 vf34 roller bearing turbo, ceramic lined manifold, F.M.I.C, boost controller, ABD Racing ceramic inlet manifold & CAI, K&N monster filter, 02M 6 speed TDi gearbox, Peloquin a.t.b, Sachs SMF & sports clutch, Forge quickshift, APR R1, Blueflame 3" downpipe, 100 cell race cat, Milltek 2 ¾" system, SamcoSport; intercooler, turbo & boost hoses, Bosch 440cc green-top injectors, S3 M.A.F, S3 A.S.R, SuperPro poly bushes all round + engine mounts, Weitec coilovers, Eibach rear arb, AP Racing 6 pots & 335mm floating discs, S3 top & bottom braces, Nomad; turbo, oil pressure, oil temperature & battery gauges.

have to laugh at your rant about people jazzing uo their cars with led washer jets, angel eyes etc, i dont see a single cosmetic mod in the above list!

and not everyone on here has 15 years of driving experience, im 22 and very happy with my octy vrs

Hmm, Monkey man here seems to be a little narrow minded wouldn't you say? It's interesting that people with modified cars don't go about whining and complaining that unmodified cars are all boring. People enjoy cars for a multitude of reasons and some people just see them as A-B transport. All cars are built to a price and you will find that this means compromise. Engine maps have to take into account those people who thrash the car from cold, never change the oil and then wonder why it's making funny noises. Therefore, if you look after your car, let the fluids come up to temp before hard driving etc then you can run more power. For those who just bumble around all day then they aren't going to benefit from that but some people will enjoy the car more. Circumstances sometimes dictate what car you can or can't afford and you take it from there. modification is all about making the car individual for the owner. Thw rodl would be a boring place if everything and everyone was the same. Stop being such a narrow minded ****** and open up to the fact that different people like different things. You don't understand it. So what? I don't understand why people do lots of things but I don't judge them for it, I just let them get on with something they obviously enjoy.

All car manufacturers have to balance a need between what is technically possible, economically viable, legal and what people will actually buy, consequently most cars are a compromise of differing requirements, the trim levels go some way to shifting the emphasis towards comfort or speed but will still be based to appeal to the majority. For example the trade off between comfort and road holding can be moved further towards road holding if desired by using harder springs and uprated dampers, if the car manufacturer used the uprated rates the ride harshness could well be unacceptable to most people, causing them to not even buy the car in the first place.

All this comes from a Tw*t who fits GREEN valve caps :finger:

who says that a standard car is the best it can be anyway.

It's like someone buying a Octy 4x4 1.8T and remapping it to 180 bhp so it's the same power wise as the vrs but they didn't by the vrs because they need the 4x4.

Also saying that if you wanted a car with the things you've changed why not buy the better car but I did subtle cosmetic mods to my base model Passat to make it look nicer and a higher spec because I couldn't afford at the time to get the model up. i also wanted as safe a car as i could afford because some of us have children but don't want to give up and buy something like a Zafira.

I think the O.P comments are a little immature and not called for. I'm all for someone having an opinion but slagging off the majority of a forum you've only recently joined seems the wrong way to introduce yourself.:thumbdwn:

spot on. my SWMBOs vectra started out as a boring club model, because thats all she could afford to buy and insure. so after a few years why should she sell her car which she knows the history of and likes, to then buy another car with a more powerful engine, which could be a duffer (or ragged to death, cut and shut or who knows what!) when instead she could buy a turbo engine and mod her own car?

in the process building a car which the manufacturers never had the balls to build! for a heck of a lot less than buying a newer car that runs the same engine as she now has!

oh and theres not a single lexarse light or neon or illuminated washer jet in sight, fancy that!!

I'm a **** but i don't want to be associated with you ******* :)

I do actually agree with some of what he says regarding the neons and daft exhausts, spoilers and the like but they are usually done by young guys and they grow out of it quickly.

The problem i have is when someone makes sweeping generalisations. If your car is older and has a tape deck does this fall into the all mod'ers are T**TS because you want to listen to CDs or MP3s, I think not.
