No problems here either 18 months down the line on a totally stock engine. The standard car does feel very slow in comparison. A 'must' upgrade for these cars.

Bugger it, I'm doing it :D Driving around today and it is that low down grunt I'm missing out on. Full beans all is well but sometimes during normal driving I feel myself wanting a touch more.

Going to phone insurers this week to see how much they will sting me, its mod unfriendly Privilege so it will be a lube up job :( If it isn't too much of an increase I'll give my local Revo franchise a call, if not it'll be an early christmas present to myself as insurance is due Dec 9th :D

You wont be dissapointed:thumbup::thumbup:

Purely from my own exerience - I have Custom-Code (done by Bill at Badger5 in Stonehouse) and have absolutely no complaints at all after 18 months or so and >100K miles on the engine. Car behaves perfectly until you hit the loud pedal, then the huge midrange torque puts a big :D on your face.. The standard turbo will tail off at the top end anyway, so midrange is where all the action is, gains at the top end are less dramatic, although noticeably better.

It makes a completely different car, how it should be from the outset IMO.

I'm definately sold on the idea and the only stumbling block will be insurance due to business use accounting for over half my mileage. A quick online quote came back at £300 more than I'm currently paying... or to put it another way a 79% increase :o

Will have to get on the blower I guess.

REVO Stage II, Best thing I ever did, Its great to see the face of Mr Boxter (Not the S variant) when he cant pull away from a Skoda and my fuel consumption has become better it now surpasses my old Almera 2.0 GTI.

On the whole a good buy, good grin factor, better fuel consumption and still extremely reliable !!!!. Make sure your Cam belt is in good condition too, just got mine done @42,000 although should have really got it done 2 years ago as the car is now 6 years old

Oh and my insurance only went up by about 80 squid :D:thumbup: now paying £540 all mods declared @ 29 years old with 9 years no claims, through Adrian Flux. Seemingly now if your a freedom member they recognise this and give you up to 15% off I believe !! so I need to phone them back and see if they will drop it a bit more :D

Cheers for the tip on Adrian Flux, my situation sounds similar- 26, 9yrs no claims and no points so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Having said that its all relative- when I got my first car- a high performance chick magnet... a Hyundai Pony I'd have bitten someones hand off to only pay £683 but now I'm old and paying the nice side of £400 it seems like alot of money :o

I probably shouldn't write Privilege off, I'm sure they quoted £540 last year but I think I said the map gave 30% increase (didn't know they would ask specifics so had to pick rough figures and work it out on my fingers :D) with the actual figure being 15% it might put it in a lower rating bracket?

"F*ck me!!" where the first words that passed my lips when i took my car for a test drive after having an APR trial map installed by Awesome GTi today!

All my doubts have completely vaporised about getting a remap, it's just brilliant! I need to buy one!

The car feels pretty much the same around town and when pottering along. But when you hit that pedal the thing takes off, and then goes, and goes. I love it!

Thanks to Awesome today for putting up with my sister (and me!), and for supplying us with tea! Cheers guys.

Pretty much ANY turbocharged car I get from now on will be mapped as soon as I can afford it.

Go ahead and DO IT, I'm 99% sure you wont look back

Well I'm happy that I'll see a benefit where I want it (in the midrange, not too fussed on top end), I'm happy with what map I want to go for and where- Revo at Clive Atthowe in Norwich (not read a bad word on them and local too).

Just a case of when now :D Thinking I might wait until renewal time but December will be insurance, MOT and most likely service too so maybe I should get it done sooner to spread the expense :D

Quick question, does everyone tell there insurence company when they have there car re-mapped?

Quick question, does everyone tell there insurence company when they have there car re-mapped?

I'm sure a hell of alot of people don't and in the event of a claim I doubt many insurance companies would investigate thoroughly enough to detect it.

That said I will be declaring mine.

Well some people under the age of 25 are pretty much forced not too tell insurance companies of mods as they simply don't insure modifcations.....

I know some one whos 23 has a octavia vrs (5 years no claims) with stage 1 mods has not insured them as they dont insure mods to people under 25 and hes paying £440.00!

If you don't declare mods (even ones that aren't physically obvious) you will be technically driving without valid insurance.

Getting a bit off topic now but i have heard that after an accident some insurance companies send ecus to be tested by the guys who map cars in the first place.

Quite a few mappers tend to decline though but it only takes one

I'm thinking of getting my vRS remapped but it is now 5 years old and with 80k miles on the clock. Will the engine still handle a remap or am I best to forget it? Many thanks.

Provided it's in good condition there should be no problem at all.

I did mine at 85000 and have 105000 now, it doesn't get an easy time, trackdays included, I've had no problems - no smoke, no oil consumption etc.

I've put my name down for a re-map at the Kent rolling-road day, end of this month. There is no real reason other than I can - I like things a bit different from the norm and this helps personalise the car to me and make it different to all the others. I worked with a guy with a remapped Leon Cupra R and he kept raving about the improvement (225 to 265 does sound very appealling). It was also his everyday car.

What bugs me though is that a number of re-map companies don't offer before and after curves (yes, some do but what I've seen suggests the majority don't). Feel afterwards may well be more important than figures, but would many people go and buy, say, a computer without knowing the specs? "It's faster than your old one but we haven't measured it!". Maybe I'm a bit cynical, maybe I'm being unfair!! So I'm grateful to all those who do share their results. I'll be putting mine on the dyno before and after, and hope to stick the graphs on a thread here.

Chris Knot and Adrian Flux are listed in this thread as possible insurers for mods - any others that people would recommend?! One of either Adrian Flux or Green Light said to me when I bought mine (last Oct) they don't cover the octy vRS anymore due to bad claims history - sorry, I can't remember which now.

If not declared to insurers, I have heard rumour that a remap could be confirmed by measuring the boost pressure (std is 10psi, mapped is 15+) - any truth in that anyone?

Sorry for going on a bit! If you are remapping then hope you like the result and tell everyone about it!

as my father always used to say

"if you want to make your car faster go out and buy a fast car"

Yes higher boost is detectable but i suppose they would have to prove it.

The usual way as i said above is to check the ecu map file against the original.

it's Greenlight that stopped covering vRS models..

Suffice to say that it is soo easy to read out the Eprom contents from the ECU and compare to standard, in most cases on post-2001 vehicles without having to remove the ECU from the car, it would be naive to think the insurance company wouldn't bother if they feel it's worth looking.

Ok, will probably seem weird to you guys but I've now had my vRS for 13 months and every time I sell myself the idea of getting it remapped I can't bring myself to do it

For example last night I had decided I was definitely going to get it done, then today I pulled out of the dump to a nice empty stretch of road, planted it in first tyres chirping all the way up to 6k, bung it in second with a satisfying screach and hint of a squirm as the car continued struggling for grip.... then a toff on a horse stepped out from a field infront of me. Anyway, point being I was ':D:D' and thinking "do I really need anymore than that?" well of course I don't need it, but do I want it :P

I think the thing putting me off it that the car runs like a dream and I'm worried that a remap is going to stuff that right up and I'll be left with a car plagued with hesitation which eats clutches and recirc valves for breakfast. Then there is the huge choice of remaps themselves. I have a local REVO franchise and a local(ish) JABBA one so I do a google and for REVO I get- great... rubbish... my car now runs like ****... my car now beats Enzo's off the line... etc etc same story for JABBA. How can the same bit of code on the same engine give so many different results. All in all I'm very confused :(

So is anyone else on the brink of getting a mod done but can't commit to having it done or am I the only big girls blouse on the forum :o ?

I dont know about anyone else but I've had my 52 plate Mk1 Octy vRS from new and had it remapped by AmD after it was run in (about 2500 miles and about 8 months old) The BEST thing I've ever done! Five years on and no problems to report only plus points, More Bhp, More torque, More Mpg.... I rest my case..... Just do it, I guarantee you wont regret it. My only advice is that you use a reputable company, like AmD or Custom Code. Hope this convinces you... Happy remapping. :orb_cool_

as my father always used to say

"if you want to make your car faster go out and buy a fast car"

That's what I did! My old Nissan 100NX was a snail in comparison (god rest her soul as she props up countless other wrecks in a dump somewhere!). Trouble is I then got a taste for it...!
