boot cover and other accessories

Featured Replies

I'm currently looking at getting a s/h Roomster TDi; I went to my local Skoda dealer to ask about availability and the internal cycle rack, and had a closer look at their display model (Roomster 2).

I currently have an estate and store quite a bit of work stuff in the boot which really needs to be concealed as it could attract a break-in. One thing I noticed with the Roomster was that there was quite a gap between the back seats and the parcel shelf cover, especially when the back seats are moved forward.

I suppose one option is to find one with privacy glass, though I'm not sure about this, and it will limit my choice.

The accessories catalogue lists a 'boot cover which sits behind rear seats' but it is not clear from the photo how this works... the staff at the showroom didn't seem that knowledgeable about the accessories.

Does anyone in the forum have the boot cover or another way that luggage can be concealed even when the rear seats are slid forward?

On another note, I see from searches on this forum that the cruise control is pretty expensive to fit, so it is probably something I can do without. However I will probably want to have the rear parking sensors fitted; from the Skoda website the cost is 157 pounds, but does anyone here know what the cost of fitting is. I should have asked at the showroom but didn't think of it at the time.

Oh, they didn't have any s/h Roomsters, but I have left my number.

The boot cover is basically a piece of black plastic sheet, almost divided into three, according to the width of the 3 seats, which velcros to the back of the seats and the edge of the main boot cover. Not a great solution - if you drop one seat, it just 'droops' - but the best solution I've seen. Given the ability to have all 3 seats in different positions, anything rigid could be unsuitable.

Thanks for that description; I thought the three sections might have been springloaded on a roll to keep the tension like the rollerblind covers on estates.

Having said that, it solves the problem so I'll have to go for that.

It's the afterthought of all after thoughts but it does work.

I suggest you get Cruise Control as a factory 'option' - its only c. £150 all in.

As for covering your 'load' how about an old blanket/sheet? Sunset glass (as a factory option) works well; you have to get right up close to see inside; or you could get your dealer to do an aftermarket 'sunset glass/tint' that could be made darker than the OE factory version. MDK1 has this IIRC.

Thanks. I'm looking to buy second hand so that isn't an option. Having looked again on autotrader, it would seem to make sense to try to opt for the '3' model, although they are much thinner on the ground - there's one 50 miles away from me at a good price!

Although the '3' has things like larger alloy wheels and the sunroof which I am not bothered about, I believe it comes with the parking sensors and cruise control which I want, unless they changed the standard spec since the launch... will have to confirm this.

You are correct

Also have the boot cover strip of plastic, works well with the tints.

Hi

Interested to read of the after market sunset glass option.

How is this done and does anyone know the cost?

Thanks

It's just normal window tints around £250

Sun Blinds would get my vote.

I have them on the Fabia and they do a good "view obstruction" job. I would imagine on a Roomy with sunset glass you'd be onto a winner.

Those prices are just plain stupid. Are the side window prices for pairs, left and right? Either way, they compare very badly with ones for my previous car - a Fiat Multipla with much larger windows - for which the total was around £80.

:iagree: The prices are steep but then they are from the dealer

That said they're not that much cheaper from the manufacturer. Good quality though

And yes, prices are per pair!

A possible advantage of the blinds is that you can put them in/take them out as required; whereas sunset/privacy glass is permanent.

Whilst the blinds are not cheap at £204.76 for the full set of 5 they are less expensive that sunset glass; but arguable sunset glass has a better styling effect on the car.

Or if you live in a hot Dessert climate like me...

You better go with both!

I have just had my Roomster Rear Windows Tinted, the car colour is Storm Blue & it looks good. Managed to get a good deal at a window replacement firm that had just started up £145 inc vat. Lakeland Windscreens, Kendal, Cumbria if your interested.

Thanks for your comments

£145 inc vat sounds good

Just went for a test drive of a Roomster 3 1.4TDi sold by a Skoda dealer, have put a deposit down and will be taking delivery of it in a week's time or so!

Here is a picture of it (my current SEAT Cordoba Vario TDi is in the background).

Although on the test drive, I found the Roomster didn't handle quite as well as the Fiat Doblo which I was originally looking at, overall the package is much more refined, and the build quality should be better.

As for the 1.4TDi engine, although it seems to lack a bit of power at really low revs compared to my 1.9TDi, it feels lively enough and I'm sure I will not regret not opting for the 1.9.

Thanks to all who provided advice on this forum, it has been most helpful.

Oh, I asked about the boot cover, and they said it does not exist despite being in the catalogue! I said that it does exist, and he said he will look into this for me.

Didn't handle?

Mine handles better than some hot hatches I have driven!

Did you get it from Letchworth Skoda? it looks like their parking bay.

part number for the boot cover is DMK770005 £12.77 + VAT

Thanks for the part number.

Yes, did get it from Letchworth Skoda - well spotted. So far I have been impressed with them; hopefully the service will be as good when I pick the car up as it was rather further away from where I live than I had imagined as I was looking at the distances listed in Autotrader.

Re the other posting re the handling of the Roomster, of course it handles well otherwise I would not have bought it :); I just felt the Doblo handled incredibly well, especially as it is essentially a van.

We've had a FIAT Doblo for the last 5 years and have just switched to a Roomster as we needed a similar car but with an Automatic Gearbox (not available on a Doblo).

Whilst I will say that the ride and handling on the Doblo is excellent for what it is, a Van with leaf springs for the rear suspension, I always notice the increased bulk and higher C of G. The Roomster on the other hand would put many regular Hatchbacks to shame, particularly with the 16" wheels of the 3/Scout to sharpen the responses and handling.

You've made the right choice!

PS; 'Your' Roomster looks pretty smart, is that the new Amazonian Green?

No, it is Highland Green (the car is a year old so not a new colour). My favourite colour was Storm Blue, but I do like the Highland Green.

When buying second hand there will always have to be compromises made, and when shopping around I just eliminated the few colours I didn't like.

And as it is a 3 it has got the 16" wheels which you say sharpen the responses and handling :) I did test drive the Doblo a few months ago so it was a bit unfair to compare them without having driven them in turn.

Enjoy your "3" when it arrives

Took delivery of my Roomster 3 today, and it is lovely. It was a sunny day and the Highland Green looked even better in the sun, though I suppose that's the case for many colours.

Was impressed with the service provided by Progress Skoda... and they were able to supply the boot cover.

Get some pic's up :D
