Duelling HGV's!

Featured Replies

all along the M25 last night the wombles are in the inside doing 50mph forcing trucks to overtake, everyone else in lanes 3 and 4 panic breaking. lane 2 is empty apart from the trucks overtaking the wombles, but everywhere else you got the idiot in the middle making a 4 or 5 lane motorway effectively a 2 to 3 lane motorway, why dont these wombles flash these people over and educate them?

Wombles look too much like traffic plods?

I hate people who panic brake on seeing someone in a traffic coat, a jam sandwich or a battenburg just as much as I hate MLOCers.

they dont look that alike they have a darker battenburg and dont have POLICE in big letters on the back, some have Highway Agency on there and they certainly have HATO afaik on the side windows. it just shows how little observation the average motorist has when they behind the wheel, they normally brake about 50-100 yds from the vehicle where as if they were fully concentrating on the road they would have seen them a long time before then and wouldnt need to panic brake.

When you are coming up from behind it isn't obvious if they are a HATO or Police, so most sensible people gently lift off. It's only a few idiots that jump on the brakes to 50.

And back in the mists of time, when this thread started, I called for MLOCers to be shot. I'm not suggesting any different penalty for "panic braking due to lack of observation".

If you think you get annoyed getting stuck behind a truck for a couple of minutes then you should really try getting 19/20ths past a slower truck only for them to pick up speed, edge back past you at a geological pace leaving you high and dry for the next 3-4 minutes knowing full well at the next hill it's all going to happen again. And then repeat that senario multiple times in the knowledge that you've got to do it in a tight time frame or you're going to be stuck miles from home otherwise the "spy-in-the-cab" will provide irrefutable evidence at your court apperance.

Which is exactly why I suggested the being overtaken truck should let the overtaker complete the move, and maintain a constant speed to allow this to happen safely.

I would imagine the police would book me if I sped up on a single carraigeway when someone thought it was safe to overtake me and had started a move

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

one i had today and im sure other truckers will have experienced this at some stage. the idiot who sits there on a phone at 45-50, you pull out to overtake them only to get three quarters past for them now to sit in your blind spot matching your speed. is there any laws against people who do this (match your speed and sit in your n/s blind spot preventing you from finishing the overtake and stopping you from pulling back in again?)

The usual HC Rules 144 (Driving without due care and attention, ...consideration), 149 (You must not use a hand-held mobile telephone, radio etc [well unless you in the emergency services anyway  ]), and overtaking rules all seem to apply.

shame there is never a cop round for these sorts of things then eh!!

That's what 3rd in the vRS is for! ;):D

How exactly that helps for those pulling 44T I'm not sure :thumbdwn:

Indicate left, start moving over :) They soon get out the way.

Whoa! Take it easy, fella! In case you hadn't noticed, the thread started about inconsiderate LGV drivers. So really, if you want to moan about car drivers from the trucker's point of view, maybe you should be making it here:

The Lorry Drivers Forum News

...instead of General CAR Chat! :P

It did and I had my fair rant at them as well. Not so much the ones that overtake but the ones that speed up when being overtaken and draw out the whole process for 10 minutes plus making everyone late and getting me 3 points trying to make the time back. So I am just as annoyed with them as the rest of the people on here

I'm pretty sure smstext was talking about being in a truck when overtaking someone on their phone at 45-50 and then they speed up and leave him high and dry. Granted if in a car it ain't a problem. Oh and I'm not a trucker, unless you count my 1.9tdi as a tractor

So flippant remarks are no longer allowed :(

OK, it's sometimes a bit hard to tell where someone's coming from, even if they do use smilies. But point taken! :)

Anyway, not wishing to hijack this thread any longer...

No worries :D, back on thread - I'm amazed they are only allowed to do 40 in a single carriageway road, (which maybe explains why we get stuck behind them so much up here), yet hurtle through villages at 30(ish)

i know someone that does a lot of continental trucking and at 4am cant remember where he said he was on a motorway, he was pulling 35 tonnes at almost 90mph i didn't beleave him untill he showed me the tacograph

He had the wrong type of tacho chart in then, as the ones used in trucks only go to 125kph and 90mph would be about 145kph

Got onto the A14 tonight from the M1, 2 trucks dueling.

Took nearly 15 miles for one to pass the other. The road ahead of them was basically empty except for the local dawdlers.

at least the road wasnt congested :rofl::rofl:

Don't they use special 110mph charts in racing trucks?

Not that im aware of, the last one i sat in at a dealers show day, didnt have one in. Im not sure wether it is the whole of europe, but i know that in the uk, the maximum road speed allowed on a motorway for all vehicles over 3.5 tonne is 90kph, this includes vans towing trailers. And the speed lallowed for coaches is 100kph.

Only behind ;)

Actually the speed limit for an artic on a UK motorway is 60mph (96kph)

this is still for vehicles exempt from speed limiters, but the sorry state is nearly every vehicle over 3.5t has a limiter fitted reducing it to 56mph max.

Seeing as neither side can agree I propose a new solution...

A cull of roughly 25% of the population, this will have a two fold effect on current traffic levels. Firstly as less goods are required there will be less trucks on the road and secondly less people means there will be less cars on the roads.

So queue and get your ticket to the most important lottery of your life. :D
