Wobblytickle Rev Out Videos

Featured Replies

Greetings all!

I've posted two videos to try to ascertain if my car's performance is typical of a standard (as far as I know) vRS.

Many times I have been criticised for not changing up round about 3500-4000rpm and/or about my allegedly flawed interpretation of what it means that my car revs freely up to 4500rpm in the first three gears (for the record, it ain't no slouch in fourth either):

and

are but just a couple of examples.

For some reason my doubters don't believe my rev needle does not slow significantly between 3500 and 4500rpm.

Well, folks, judge for yourselves...

Note that these 'tests' were done on a full tank of fuel and just after I'd had a rather big lunch!

So, how does you car compare?

WTF - why don't you change gear earlier?!

I'd be worried about breaking my car doing that, hahaha!

OMG! :confused::eek:;):rofl:

revs very similar to mine, although i dont go quite so far lol

mines a standard 04 plated vrs

 on the road to destruction.

You trying for an "Aussie tune up" ?

Looks ok to me, no drop off at the end of the rev range either :)

agreed.......

if you are getting drop off above 4k, it will be more noticable in the higher gears, when I had a fabia vRS, I used to rev it to 4.5k when "making progress" as thats where my graph (RR) dropped off power......

So, how does you car compare?

We shall see next time im in Arbroath ;)

And just for the record, mine is doing 90 in 3rd before i hit 4.5k...

Is it me, or do those videos look like they've been taken in a remapped vehicle? :) That's quite an impressive moment of the speedo in the '3rd' video, for example.

Will be interesting what the RR session tells you.

Thats what i was thinking.

My standard VRS would rev like that right up to about 5200rpm but that does seem rather quick for a standard VRS...

Looks quicker than standard to me

looks like mine with 400 fewer revs

Was your car running in standard trim?

Bring it on! :P

And you hit 90 before 4500rpm?

I've no idea how you manage that as you shouldn't even hit 90 at 5000rpm!

If you stop my third gear video at 2500rpm, you'll see the speedo bang on 40mph, so at 5000rpm it would be indicating 80mph.

As I'm not aware of any gearing changes, except for the longer sixth in facelifted models, I don't understand how this is possible.

Anyone?

The plot thickens...

I have several good reasons for believing my car to be unmodified.

Its one previous owner was a retired gentleman, who, over the last two years, added only 2000 miles between services.

Said gent took meticulous care of the car.

Rubber Fabia mats protect the vRS mats below.

There are no scratches on the car and only two tiny, touched-in, stone chips.

The windscreen has never seen an ice scraper, so no crazy hazing in bright sunlight.

The bodywork has always been washed by hand, as there are no tell-tale carwash sworls etc.

All the tyres are original, with the Conti SportContact2s on the front still having 7mm of tread on them, suggesting an easy life prior to me getting the car.

I have never seen black smoke pump out Batmobile-stylee when giving it The Beans, something often reported by those with remapped motors.

The standard air intake and trumpet are where Skoda intended.

The stealerships from where I bought the car, and from where the car was originally bought, didn't mention any mods.

And then there's the fact I have nothing to compare the car to, so I simply think, "They say it's quite nippy and so it is".

All the above, to my mind at least, suggest an unmodded motor.

But then, after I mention how my car performs/when/why I change gear etc, many are incredulous, hence this thread.

And then then, like I started saying, the plot begins to congeal when posts such as these come in:

"Is it me, or do those videos look like they've been taken in a remapped vehicle? :) That's quite an impressive moment of the speedo in the '3rd' video, for example."

"Thats what i was thinking."

"My standard VRS would rev like that right up to about 5200rpm but that does seem rather quick for a standard VRS..."

"Looks quicker than standard to me."

And another thing: as it's got the 'classic' ASZ engine, it's likely about 10BHP down on the Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato motor!

Many thanks to all who have contributed thus far and thanks in advance to those who are about to.

Mine is standard afaik (ie i haven't modified but bought 2nd hand from dealer) and performance looks pretty similar

If i get a chance i will time mine through 3rd next week

Watched a rerun of Top Gear the other night and Clarkson was complaining about hitting the redline in a Jag diesel around Nurmburgring. I thought everyone knew there is no point in going anywhere near the redline in a diesel.

Anyway, I'd go for a test drive in another vRS, as it does look quite swift.

Will try mine...

There are numbers quoted here -

http://briskoda.net/fabia-i/30-70-times-few-other-qs-newbie/54205/

that indicate your car is doing things just about right I would say - 30-50 in 3rd gear is stated as 3.5 secs, which looks about right. The Autocar report on Fabia-vrs.com gives 20-40 in2nd as 2.4 secs, which again looks about right on your video.

Will test mine when I go fishing later!

HTH Mr WT! (the seat is still devoid of creaking!)

I think we are seeing a natural improvement of quality control of the engine build, with finer tolerences showing greater power outputs of the original :)

Mine bounces too easily off the limiter (around 5100rpm) because it's tuned to keep power on hard into the redline. :)

Revving to 4700 only? :P Not good enough :D
