  • I've stripped both cars, cleaned the estate and today i got the engine loom, abs pump, brake lines etc swapped. I had a mechanic friend over doing the clutch, timing belt, water pump, hybrid turbo et

  • Tell me about it, i'm always fixin them. So far in my house he has fitted a dimmer switch, something is wrong here.

  • You excited yet?

Don't tell me it's still in there.

:P Noooooo! It's just a bit grubby so is going to need some good stuff to shift it all. :)

Ross, its not just the ESP that has different brake pipes. My 02 to 54 plate had different pipes, had to swap all the brake pipes fror the whole car as the pump inlets/outputs were in different places. Obviously, Skoda updated the pump

Looking good

Fair enough, its not too much work, biggest pain in the right hand rear as that goes up above the tank.

I was OK as I had the tank out and changed that too, as it was newer and had only done a few miles! Are you swapping rear beam etc too?

Yeah swapping the rear beam over as it has the mounts on it for the level sensor for the xenons.

Got the engine in tonight, some of the wiring done, heater matrix pipes etc. Need an AC pipe though as both were seized at the quick release coupling end.

Great job, loading up the pics VERY slowly from here, this connection is about ISDN speed but looking great

Despite is being a public bank holiday and me not being at 'work' i'm still hard at it. Although not going to the unit today I brought home the vRS interior. Both front seats were ruined as the side airbags had gone off which rips through the covers. So I stuck a deal with yegnold who had a set of covers after a retrim and set about repairing the interior at home today. The whole interior had been stored at the unit. Now normally I would take great care of someones interior even if removed but being as I knew some work had to be done with this one I must admit I hadnt been to worried about it getting grubby (which is kind of inevitable with the vRS seats) plus it was pretty minging anyhow. So the main work was going to be the fronts and mainly the back rest of the seat. After a discussion with Wiebo is was decided that we would bin the side airbags, they are quite frankly useless anyhow so luckliy enough the covers were from a non airbag car so all I needed to do was remove the airbag and I will decode it when the car is built up. So onto the pics (of course).

So with the cover and airbag removed.....

100_1498.jpg

It leaves a hole in the foam. Rather than buy a new foam for a non airbag seat I made a fill in piece..

Evie approved..

100_1499.jpg

So with that is back on with the cover..

100_1507.jpg

And after a good scrub drying out..

100_1513.jpg

I think they will end up water marking but guess that would happen and that must be easier to sort out than ingrained grease and dirt.

Rears all done also so a good day infront of the tele working on a car. Of course I would like to thank Tracey (the wife) as the front room is now somewhat full of car parts and she hasnt grumbled one bit.

Also the astute of you might have noticed that I have indeed fitted the covers the wrong way around. the pockets are now on the outside rather than the inside. This is for two reasons (or maybe three as I will explain later). One being the foam blank I made is on the outside, I though the pocket may disguise this if it was obvious what i did (as it turns out it isn't). Secondly is although the covers are in good condition they are used, the vRS seat has large side bolsters and getting in and out causes wear and bobbling, I thought by swapping them it would extend the life of the cover. The third reason and probably most honest is I didn't feckin realise until I had done one, balls.

Absolutely love the honesty ;-)

I like the idea of prolonging the life of the covers. (Reminds me of the fable of turning your boxers inside out for double wear :D ) And I never had any use for those darned pockets anyway. :D

top job there ross

A lot of hard work put in there mate - WW better be extremely grateful :D

How long before this beast hits the road do you think?

Hopefully not too long. Need to source a driveshaft, one a/c pipe and a xenon headlamp from somewhere. But engine is in, pretty much plumbed and wired up. Front subframe is stripped down and ready to be rebuilt. Looks like however whomever fitted the Powerflex wishbone bushes cross threaded the bolts that go into the console, they are jammed in there good. Luckliy enough I have spares.

Need to source a driveshaft,

I have a spare short stubby driveshaft. :)

I have aircon pipes, and luck with the front seat base covers and any other covers you have?

Its the long one thats bent.

Alex, got all the remaining covers. I need the end of the high pressure AC pipe (with the switch on it) there is a quick release connector by the o/s chassis leg, I need the bit that goes from the connection to the condensor.

Sure I have it as all were good on both cars, will look tomorrow
