  • I've stripped both cars, cleaned the estate and today i got the engine loom, abs pump, brake lines etc swapped. I had a mechanic friend over doing the clutch, timing belt, water pump, hybrid turbo et

  • Tell me about it, i'm always fixin them. So far in my house he has fitted a dimmer switch, something is wrong here.

  • You excited yet?

It's almost done!

Wonder how it's gonna perform?

Lookin' good

Looks like a pretty stripped out 200SX next to it too :D

Steve

Looking good ;) - what's the state of the aircon rad, IIRC that had worn through on the vRS one but fingers crossed the estate one was still ok :)

It is scary how much is actually 'under the bonnet' as such really :D

Great job, hope you havent got too much homework ;)

definitly looking good there Mr.Clarke.

Amazing job as always :)

That's starting to take shape - Looking great.

looks like a lot oh hard work has been put in and the results are now clear for all to see!!

Plenty of hard work, and lots of flexibility from Ross, Mrs Ross, and of course don't forget Miss Ross Jr ;) hehe - she supervised a few sessions ;)

Apart from all the parts being swapped, repairing and locating replacements trying to keep the cost as low as possible, working full time and doing 'normal' jobs at Unit18 and having a family, that is something not to be sniffed at :)

Trying something a bit brave here. Everyone knows how cool the black lights are as worn by the likes of Alex and Lukes old Fabia.

However anyone done a set on Xenons yet?

Thought i'd give it a go. ne of the lights was damaged in the accident, as a new one is silly expensive I took a look at it and realised aside from the main reflector and the unit itself the lens and casing are all identical. So set about stripping one of the estate headlamps and gutting it out to fit the Xenon innards which were luckily undamaged. So this is where i'm at, frames ready to be painted and then rebuilt. One of the lenses is a little hazy as its done 260k rather than the 80k of the other one, but I may get a visit from a certain Baker next weekend and he is going to polish them up for me :)

I hope I can pull this off..lol

Nice work boss.

Me too ;) - there was deffo a difference with the ones that did 260k miles vs the 'almost new' 70k ones

Fingers crossed the xenons are behaving themselves totally and good luck !

Might be worth checking if the motorised bits work too, pretty much sure the lights/ballasts were not damaged but ya never know :)

The motors are all the same for both so im building it with only the projector part of the Xenon, everthng else in the lamp is original.

This is gonna be interesting

Looks scarey, but really easy I found.

I went and shot blast the chrome pieces, so as to remove all the chrome and give the paint a good surface to stick to before priming, painting and lacquering them.

Results speak for themselves though, an excellent cheap mod

I have keyed them pretty well, I would hope they would be fairly safe as they are internal and not open to damage really.

But yes, 120 degrees for four mins and the lens just pulled off.

Did you do anything to reseal them? I did consider sticking them back in for a few mins to reset them maybe.

Did exactly the same, back in the oven for a few minutes to soften the putty again. Then pressed them back together and put the metal clips back on to hold them while they cooled down

Thought as much, they stick on well again, just tried to get one back off, no chance without a reheat.

Done now aside from a bit of a polish on the older lens, pretty impressed personally and if it works (of course it will) it will have saved £300 or so on a headlamp.

Had to check backwards and forwards between the pics to remember what angel eyes look(ed) like again :o

Looking good Ross  - all savings welcome :D

Really useful to know that, should I ever have the misfortune to crack one of my Xenon units!

Steve

this thread is becoming somewhat educational

Alex

Stripping off the old chrome is important/critical.

Is it chrome on plastic parts?

Ross this project is a monster. It looks awsome, great job so far

I remember reading somewhere that bleach does a good job on removing chrome from plastic parts.

I'm sure the paint job will be better left to those other than myself

One tip use a std colour from another car if you change it, dont use a custom paint, Ive been there & damage repair is a nightmare
