Octavia 2 headlights!

Featured Replies

So which clever fellow decided that the main beam (inner 2 lights) should be fixed and NOT adjustable!

Put a load in the boot or add a trailer and you cant see a thing:thumbdwn:

I dont get it?

Sent the car back 3 times and they say they are as good as they get - my previous Octy1 and my RAPID have better lighting!

I light a little bit in front with the dips but at least they adjust!

The main beam lights the trees when I am unloaded and then when I load the car - well they are useless!

Obviously Im getting pretty mad with these Octy 2 and all Skoda say is that everything is fine and is the same as the other cars!

anybody else have problems with the headlights?

(lets not start on the thing stalling easily, rumbling at lower engine speeds etc etc)

Whoa calm down fella, they ARE adjustable.

Hang on a mo and I'll dig out the guide for you!

my full beam was excellent till it came service time and i complained about the xenons being too high. they adjusted the xenons as one was too high and now my full beam points to a point ahead of me that makes it useless to see and when you going down roads that are not straight you cant see where you going. i keep telling myself to just try and get use to it but see myself taking it back soon.

Sounds like you have xenons, which DO adjust automatically, hence not having a light level adjust wheel.

If you have halogens, then you WILL have the wheel ;)

Cant find a guide  but there should be one!

Anyway, I'm assuming you do not have Xenons in which case there are two hex nuts on the front inner edge of each headlight which are used to adjust the beam but I would suggest that you speak to a proffesional with a beam setter to sort out your lights properly.

found this:

adjustments:

With the bonnet open you can see two hex nuts one above the other on each light fitting, these adjust the horizontal and vertical position of the projector lens, this is the same with halogen and xenon bulbs, you don't need to mess with these unless you intend to fiddle with the dipped beam alignment.

If you look inside the engine compartment at the rear of the light fitting you will see the white nylon nut that keeps the fitting in place, directly underneath this there is a single upward facing hex nut, this is what adjusts the up/down position of the main beam.

Note, this screw adjusts the entire main beam unit - that's the bulb AND the surrounding reflector.

HTH's!!!!

All headlights on every car are set off dipped beam:)

Don't they have that wheel on the dashboard [or does that only do dipped beam?]

The dial on the dash does the dipped beam only unless you have Xenons in which case the dial is removed thanks to dynamic levelling.

My main beam was really high until I adjusted it. Still looks rubbish compared the to the dipped xenons. Bi-Xenons would have been nice but i'll save them for the next car.

but the maim beam can be adjusted independently of the dip beam, regardless of normal/xenons.

There is a hex key for up/down and a flat blade screw tip for left/right.

Thanks guys -

I will have a look in daylight when I stop being so ANGRY about it! Both dealers it has been to say everything in the garden is rosy - even when you show them the problem!

The car has Halogens so I have the adjuster - but to have to get out and adjust the main beam realy is not on when you have adjustment for the dips!

When it is sunny and nice I can see why I bought this car - every time it is wet or getting dark I regret selling my PD130 and curse the day I saw this one!

Is it possible to adjust the full beam as well then? There's a slightly annoying black/blank line/zone, whatever you want to call it, between my xenons and the full beam. I'd like to adjust the full beam down a bit so that it gives me one complete lit up area as opposed to having a slight gap between that nad the xenons.

Any ideas??

Yes; as stated in post #10 above;-

This is regardless of dip beam setup.

Sorry, I was taking 'main beam' to mean your regular xenon lights, not the halogen full beam.

Cheers

OK no problem; I always think of 'dip beam' (halogen or xenon) that is on all the time and 'main beam' for full/distance use.

Ah, i've always referred to main beam as the one you use the mainly and dip as the half or side lights.

Easy come, easy go.

This may be of help. From the Workshop Manual:

Setting the headlight beam

NoteThe headlight adjusting device is used to set up the headlight. The nominal values can be found in the manual → Octavia II.

Left low beam (right low beam in mirror image) (pic S94-0161)

1 - Adjust the low beam (adjustment for height)

2 - Adjust the low beam (adjustment from side to side)

Left main beam (right low beam in mirror image) (pic S02-0393)

1 - Adjust the main beam (adjustment from side to side)

2 - Adjust the main beam (adjustment for height)

The nominal values can be found in the manual → Octavia II.

Nominal Values??

Nominal Values??

Nope couldnt find any !

Also the text for the second pic is incorrect.

Funny thing is, though, that the low/high beam switch doesn't work on day runners, and neither do the dashboard panel lights. These both only start working when you actually turn the light switch on although the green headlight on warning light is on whenever the ignition is on.

This is quite normal up here in Finland :)

Sory didnt make it clear .

The pics and text are copied from the workshop manual.

Both paragraphs refer to the LH side and describe the RH as a mirror image of the pics shown. But 2nd pic shows the rear of the RH light, not the LH side.

:thumbup:I was looking at the numbers thinking they were wrong

This may be of help. From the Workshop Manual:

Like many others subscribing to this thread , I have been very unhappy with my mainbeam , but thought it was just anno domini , until we bought an old SLK last week and realised that it had to be the Skoda .

I think that I may have been guilty of blinding the odd pilot on finals when I have been near an airport just of late for I adjusted the mainbeam down three rotations - I am strongly not recommending this to anyone - but my faith in my night time driving around blacked out N Wales has been restored - what a difference !

I have adjusted only the mainbeam since this is never used when there is any oncoming traffic . Maybe there is a set up facility on one of the assembly lines that is misaligned ....?

P.s why is the website clock GMT +2 ?

Only three turns? - I did 4 full turns plus another quarter! - But yes it does make you wonder why they are so far out.
