Is it me?

Featured Replies

One to try this one. If i leave an indicator signal on when turning the ignition off and getting out of my Octy, the 'lights on' warning buzzer sounds. If I then nip round the back of the car to look at the rear lights I find one rear (red) lamp lit, the right cluster if I'm indicating right, the left cluster if i'm indicating left. Is it me or is this normal? If it is normal, why? :)

It's the same on all VAG cars Dave. Parking light.

yup. parking light.

Also does it on Vauxhalls too, and probably many other makes :) The Scooby had a specific parking light button which turned on the sidelights and both rear tail lights..........

European legislation, apparently.

Just the one light at a time, how very odd. Europeans hey! Cheers guys.

It depends on which side of the road you're on, i.e on the left side of the road - you put the right indicator on, right side of the road - you put the left indicator on.

According to the manual you can also make the headlights stay on for a while, but I've not tried it.

coming home lights, activate high beam when the ignition is off before you leave the car and the lights will come on for 30 sec when you leave the car..

been around years had them on mk111 cortina's so nowt to do with European legislation

If its any help mine also screams at me when I've left the indicator on and turned the ignition off and open the door, and yes both front and rear "parking lights" are on when I look from the outside. :D

One or two of us are old enough to remember the little clip on parking lights people used to attach to their windows at night - the forward-pointing bit was white and the rearward, red... I tried to find a picture, but gave up :D

That's because pictures weren't invented then.
