final say on remap debate...

Featured Replies

ok i knw this has thread has previously been thrashed to death (excuse the pun  ) but i would like to know what peoples opinions are on the best remap!

I know they all offer different things  but one has to be better than the rest  , does anyone have an opinion on this :o ?

I will have uprated suspension at the same time with the bars n the engine etc.. whole new can of worms for a later date   !

so which is it; i have no first hand information but im sure some of you guys do... :D

Jabba/Revo Technik/AMD/or any others...

Jabba seems to offer the best value for money, and certainly seems to have the edge in terms of end performance. The main problem I have is that is can't be turned on and off at will (to maybe hide it from the dealer).

Revo is more expensive, but can be switchable with a SPS1, which makes it my winner, just from a piece of mind perspective. I know that the dealer could detect it if they really, really tried, but it's not likely unless they already have their suspicions about the car.

As for AmD, they've got a great reputation, and will provide you with a custom map specifically for your engine, which has got to be a good thing. It's still pretty expensive, though.

If you have a diesel, then you might also consider the DMS mod. They are a knowledgeable bunch of guys, and can also offer the enable/disable functionality.

If I was going to do it, I'd go for Revo.

Bagpuss.

Jabba for value for money and driveability, yes revo do te sps1 and often get more bhp but do tend to be a harsh drive. To give you some idea of the smoothness of a jabba re-map mine was undetectable to me learners, just a smidge quicker ;)

They're all much of a much.

Where is nearest to you?

If you're near Peteborough... Go to Jabba...

If you're near Oxford?... Go to AmD...

If you're near Warrington... Go to Awesome (APR)...

If you're anywhere else... REVO lol

Oh, and I've been in plenty revo'd cars and none were a harsh drive...

Countless Germans have had a demontration of my Jabba'd Octy RS this week :D

But, as has been said there are a lot of factors to consider :)

They are all much of a muchness... they will all give the same real-world performance. its just whats convenient for you

but one has to be better than the rest

Unfortunately not. Fair enough there are some slightly dodgier routes ( ) out there but if you go with any of the previously mentioned lot (Jabba, AMD, REVO, APR) you will no doubt have a big grin on your face.

There is no definative answer just personal preference.

With the likes of Revo and APr you are buying more than a "map". Said it before and I'll say it again with APR and I guess REVO security features I could leave the keys in the ignition and it can't be started...might be a gimmick, but I think it's worth having.

Other features I know on the APR as thats what I have are fault code erase, throttle body align, various fuel programs 95 Ron, 98 Ron, 104 Ron all can be run depending on the day and the fuel of course, again Revo is similar with the SPS units. Again v-Tune and sps3 allow even more control and adjustment, so they are perhaps a little more expensive but you are getting a little more IMHO.

As to location yes it's as good a factor as any, certainly helped me choose mine (Revo) did not exist then, had it, well IF is not a word I use except in programming ;)

No maps, pgms, serivce, whatever parameter you use will make one better than the other for the same two test subjects. The real world results?

2 4x4's side by side, different tuning companies, both neck and neck at 90MPH from traffic lights. Simple as that. Do not be taken by numbers, talk to people, have rides, remeber that little alterations like intakes, inlet pipes exhausts effect everything, but only in subtle ways.

Hope that helps, if not Search will possibly return more than 500 results on this from the last 20 odd months.

Final note, as Rich says at the moment I'd play safe woth the main four, although others exist and this market changes, the new FSi's will be different all together, but thats another debate.

thanks guys youve helped a lot. Revo is the closest as theres one in south west London and it takes 25 mins to do he whole job, so in and out on a saturday morning is perfect for me... 10,000 mile service on the 21st then its all up ans up or should i say forward and forward...

i can only speak of revo, its quick and easy to install, theres a choce of settings and the imobiliser too.

i live in the sticks and can't always get 98 RON petrol,so swicthing to 95 RON prog is just a flick of the ignition away, another click and its back to stock for when the mrs and kids are onboard ,i will hopefully be installing a 4bar fuel pressure regulator, and iirc any revo outlet will reflash your car for free for this upgrade.

it works for me.and i'm still smiling

On the subject of remaps , do any of the tuners offer a remap on the new 2.0 TDI yet?

If so , what are they getting from it?

Only seen one re-map on the 2.0 tdi, and that was Superchips (based in Buckingham). They've been chipping cars longer than most. Seem to recall they got another 30ish BHP from the A3. Made it rather lively... Diesel car did a test - the article can be found on-line!

Superchips seem to get less power than others, so am eagerly awaiting Jabba's efforts! If they can get close to 200bhp, then I will be very interested in a new Octy!
