Motorway driving

Featured Replies

While most drivers use the motorways sensibly, there are those that are annoying with their bad habits.

This is my list of things that annoy me, whats yours?

1/ Driving too close to the vehicle in front.

2/ Staying in the middle lane when the inside lane is clear for miles

3/ Changing lanes suddenly without indicating

4/ Waiting until the last minute to cross from the outside lane to the off slip ramp.

5/ Driving at night with rear fog lights on when it's a clear night

Number2 is unspeakable irritating, it's even worse if it's lane 3.

what about people that overtake on the inside :sofahide:

1. Cars that drive slower than lorries

2. People who dab their brakes instead of using accelerator control to match speed

3. People who pull out into a gap but don't accelerate.

and finally

4. Everyone else on the road (no-one drives as well as I do).

I'm amused the number of times people have tried to overtake me to take an exit at the last minute, and cancelled the overtake and gone behind me instead.

What about those in the BMW lane who just move straight out to the outside lane and won't shift from it, because they're doing 100mph and they're in the "fast" lane.

Does this count if I'm undertaking the middle lane hoggers

My pet hate is the to$$ers who join the motorway and go straight across to lane 3

I noticed recently the matrix signs saying 'don't hog the middle lane' and 'keep left unless overtaking'

yeah, but to be a real hardcore under-taker you need to use the skoda lane... oops, i mean hard shoulder;)

Lol - as long as you dont bump into another one on there! (possibly me broken down :thumbdwn: lol! )

In addition to the above:

People who don't lower their headlight beam when their boot's full of stuff

People who put their foot down when you're overtaking them

People who overtake, then pull in right in front of you, which is even worse when it's raining so you just get a screen full of spray off the road!

People who overtake and then slow down

But most of all, just other cars on motorways in general. I like a nice clear run, which is why I usually do m'way journeys at strange hours of the night if I can help it :)

1,2,5 here

Other people use my motorway?

If there is enough space for someone to overtake on the inside, then by that very description the car being passed on the inside should have moved over because there is plenty of space.

I hate people who can't keep a constant speed. Nothing more irritating than having cruise set at 10%+2 and keep leapfrogging with the same car.

Im guilty for number 2 :o well not as much as I used to be

in a round-about kind of way that was the point i was making:)

basically by overtaking on the inside you are highlighting the fact that they shouldn't be there:)

Hungarian lorries that drive into the back of you

Thanks Mannyo, that saved me a post!

I can imagine that would get quite irritating, does it happen often to you?

I hate it when your in the fast lane bout to overtake and then some **** pulls right in front of you, you brake and you are very much bumper to bumper and your forced to change lane due to loss of speed.

When the motorway is congested with traffic in all three lanes, some drivers try and sneak down the middle lane and then pull into the outside lane to gain an advantage. This causes the outside lane drivers to bunch up to avoid them doing so, which in turn creates a dangerous environment of sudden braking and ultimately causes the traffic speed to reduce further.

Muppets.

Seconded!

Thankfully only once:D

Truck drivers who launch "overtaking" moves when they can't achieve a speed differential that allows them to complete the move in under a mile.

Especially when it's on a two lane dual carriageway up hill
