  • Guys, a picture speaks a thousand words.... PLEASE!!!!

  • Just for info... I fixed this issue using the non sealant method. Window down. Something in window channel where fixed glass meets moving glass (I used a drinks coaster - number plate apparantly wo

I'm pretty sure it's number 1 (which then causes wind noise)... The 'fix' I've done has definitely cured it anyway

There is a definite difference between the two noises (wind and road), it's very hard to describe but road noise is much more of a 'rumble' and the wind noise I had was kinda 'whistly', but a low pitch. I guess it's sort of like having the rear window open a tiny but, but a bit more 'tinny' rather than bassy. Kinda wish I hadn't fixed it now so I could get a sound recording, haha.

I am new to this forum, and know you suggested this fix ages ago, but I have had this wind noise problem since I bought my octavia elegance second-hand last year. I only noticed it a few days after purchase. After finally running decorators tape around nearly every conceivable entry point I isolated the noise as also coming from a rear side quarter window. Thanks Adam, can't wait to go and get this sorted. Any advice on bad creaking sound over bumps? Most people are pointing to more grease needed on ARBs. I know there is stuff in the forums but just wondered what you thought?

Creaking is front wishbone bushes. Either spray with wd40 or replace them, but the creaking will come back so i just soak mine in wd40 every couple of months.

Great advice; I've noticed this in the last fortnight. Assumed it was the terrible repair job that the Skoda garage in Cardiff did but will try the coaster fix now!

Wow! best thread ever, this has been bugging me for a year now.

Going to try the hammer method first (presumably slide a coaster into the rear vertical glass channel and tap).

Failing that, the internal sealing method. The sound is definitely a "leaking" seal

OK, the hammering with a coaster dodn't work, and I couldn't get hold of some sealant, so as a temp solution I carefully applied some sellotape to the inside seal, which worked a treat. I've got some black electrical tape which will stretch and fit better, so am going to try that which will match the colour.

Just got to hopefully fix the crap performance with the new DV and I'll be happy again.

Just to add to this topic of knowledge about this issue. Ive only had my vRS Octavia 4 weeks and is a 2012 plate, picked it up with only 3,000 miles on the clock. As soon as i drove it from the garage i could hear a noise which sounded like the rear window was cracked open, from the rear drivers side door.

The area where the wind noise was coming from is the exact same spot as pointed out in Adam R's photos.

Gave it a few knocks myself which did nothing, but i didnt try the sealant trick as its still under warranty, i thought id leave it to the garage.

Got it back this morning and they have cured the problem :) :)

Issue:

I have recently had the same 'annoying wind noise' around the rear near side door on my mkII 54 elegance. This was inconsistent at first and often became noticeable at around 70mph. It got progressively got worse as the weather turned colder and was noticeable even at 30mph in the end.

Attempted fixes:

I tried all the suggested fixes mentioned here and in other related posts, but to no avail. I spent hours trying to pin-point the problem, including some stupid arm stretching probes from drivers seat. Now that I have finally found the blxxdy problem I thought I would share it with you all.

Cause of the problem:

It seemed that the rear window or quarter-light was not the problem. I found the problem to be the tubular rubber door seal. This was not making a good seal against the body of the car when shut. I found that the seal is fairly well secured to the car in all but one area. This is where the rubber follows up around the wheel arch (genius - exactly the place it get knocked about). Here the seal is screwed in against the seat trim (between the foam side support and plastic trim - about rib height if sat in seat). The tube mounting had moved inwards away from the door slightly as the fixing was a little loose, either when fighting with the child seat or pushing in reluctant, screaming kids.

The fix:

I simply repositioned it making sure it was sitting further out from the seat in order to make contact with the rim of the door. Not had the problem since.

Hope that helps.

I used the hammer method yesterday, seems to have worked. An old motorbike number plate and tap with a hammer and I could see the quater light window physically move. I'm new to this forum and the info. here has been great already.

I have this too on an estate 2010 vrs. Is it the same position on the estate? Mine is white so could make it look bad

Found this thread yesterday after spending some time getting pee'd off, doing some diagnosis and then speaking to the local dealer. Local dealer advised of Skoda's fix which is sealant and that it would cost £160!

So, armed with a drink mat and a hammer, I followed the recommended bashing trick. Low and behold the wind noise has gone.

Hooray!!!

I've had my 06 vrs since late last year and only have a problem with a wind noise from the passenger side.

Oddly enough it stops when the wife gets out.

Sorry to re bump the post, Just curious to how long the sealing lasted for? Brought a 57 Octavia Vrs and it's driving me mad, is it easy to do? Did you remove the rubber beading stuff that you see before to make it easier? R just pull and hold it back!?
