RARB and Handling!!!!

Featured Replies

Even though this topic has been covered a million times I thought id share my little experience with you all. I have recently removed my Jabba RARB and rear strut brace, I just nipped out to pick the Mrs up from work and it felt like I had 2 flat tyres on the back while cornering.........

I put the car into the corner going onto the motorway and it was all over the show:eek:

I freakin crapped myself. (tyres were 34psi)

This is the best mod for the Fabia. If you need a reson to buy anything for your Fabia this is it. It just feels so much more planted, safe and predictable with this metal bar strapped underneath. Its amazing

Even if you dont get a Jabbasport one, get one:thumbup:

Why did you take them off?!

I have lost my mind and gone crazy!

Im putting my car back to near standard and these were the easiest things to remove.

I did that once, and tried some lift off on a roundabout.... I almost died. I put another one back on the week after.

I have just fitted 1 to my mk1 octavia

Before the handling wasn't the best with it feeling boaty at high speed

Now its definatley more direct the change of direction is awsome now compared to before

Worth every penny

I must have seen 20 threads on here in as many months about the RARB and how great it is. I've never anyone with anything bad at all to say about this mod.

Is there really no downside at all? Why would something as simple as this not been fitted as standard/the setup altered like this as standard?

The car just wasn't setup for handling out of the factory - more for safety and comfort (understeer being 'safe'). AFAIK all the RARB actually does is stiffen up the torsion beam making the rear suspension a bit less independent, but as said the effect on handling is dramatic.

Personally i feel the opposite im running coilovers and i love the handling on my Fabia... suppose ive now mastered it and i couldn't imaging it handling different feel like i know the limits and atm i think it handles superbly

the downside is its more likely to lift off oversteer and kill you when you can't control it as it took you by surprise :)

I fit a RARB to my tdi last week and I have to say the handling has changed dramatically.

For the better? Probably...

But me being an inexperienced driver almost lost it round a round-a-bout as I'm having to learn how to drive the car again. It really makes that much of a difference.

I only had my fabia for about 3 months before i fit my jabba arb

so i never really got used to the car without one

thus,i take the arb for granted as part of the car

surley the car cant be that bad without it

The big downside with a RARB is you get little or no warning when you get to the limit of available grip. Pass that limit and the car breaks away BIG time. You have to be driving like a total boob mind you, but it's still a real danger.

Test on a runway or private area. Gear needed, RARB, change of trousers and a crash helmet/roll cage.

Totally Disagree! My Whiteline RARB, gives me total feel and control of what the backend is doing. Even at speed if I lift off the back gently comes round and starts to break traction. To correct it you simply apply more power or steer into it and it gains it again. Not once has it "snapped" on me, because I can feel when its going. Its fantastic (I have it on the medium setting by the way as I felt the stiffest setting didn't give as much feel)

PS: To break traction completly takes a lot of provoking in the dry so the average driver wouldn't get to this limit through normal sprited driving. In the wet however.... its a lot easier ;)

oooo got my anti rollbar in the front room looking at me! waiting for my coilies to show up then will fit it all at the same time!

because no one on here has ever lost the back end of their fabia, gone sideways and rolled it?

its for that reason if i was buying one id get the whiteline and have it on soft/medium

Whats the count upto now?

If someone loses control then they are driving too fast. It isnt down to whether the car has RARB fitted or not. Other cars have them fitted as standard and I dont see any of those always crashing. Most crashes happen because of poor driving skills. You should never brake or lift off going round a corner. If you do then you are going too fast. The speed should be set before entering the corner and gentle power applied to balance the car through the corner. Its dead easy once you have had the training and are used to driving to the system.

no idea but i know a few did and only ever fabia's :)

Hear Hear! :)

I must admit, in racing i sometimes give the brakes a quick dab as im turning in to get the **** of the car out round a corner

However, i've had 2 different cars, both with a 23mm rear anti-roll bar on and have never had dificulty in driving close to the edge, i think a big help is to find some private tarmac and push your car beyond the limit.

The best thing you could ever do is experience what the car feels like just before the rear looses grip, you'll be able to react to it quicker with less driver input.

I even run a lot higher pressures in the rear than in the front...

so i take it you have esp? i don't mean the stability program as you obviously always know whats round every corner and never have to react to whats there as your already going at the appropriate speed

If its a blind corner then you slow down for it. Using view point analysis. You should always be able to stop in the distance you can see. Then if anything is round that corner. You can stop or take avoiding action if needed. Most people go howling round corners and then its too late.

only a few  I can't wait to read practical performacne car in about 10 years time to see what they say in a buyers guide. :)

Thats a very sweeping generalisation..........

Say for example, you travel the same road for years at the same speeds and always take the same line on the corner, suddenly one day as your travelling at your usual speeds and angle, you hit something in the road (be it a hole or a rock etc) that you CANT see, loose it and end up in a ditch.

Does that now mean your a careless or bad driver because you failed to use "point view analysis?

Yes i agree with you that alot of people do hammer into corners with total disregard and think because the car is lower etc that it'll handle like a race car, but you cant "tar everyone with the same brush" so to speak.

(waits for the pending abuse.......)

The RARB on a Fabia makes the handling more predictable, and safer - as long as you remember what job it does and you know how it affects your car - as with any modification.

If you are driving too fast for either the conditions, the ability of your car, or your own ability - you can/may/will crash, no matter what modifications you have on the car making it better.

As for never backing off round corners - that's where all the fun of the arb is ;)

With an ARB - progressive slide.

Without an ARB - snap oversteer, with little or no hope of catching it.

Obviously the above refers particularly to the Fabia.
