Those looking for Skoda RNS510 - EBay

Featured Replies

it works fine with the MFSW on pre-facelift cars, however it must be a 1Z0 unit and not a 3T0 unit.

I wish mine did! Only the volume bottons on my MFSW work. My unit is a 1ZO unit (confirmed with VCDS) fitted in an 06 MkII.

I too saw this add and emailed asking questions about date of manufacture, h/w and s/w versions (there doesn't appear to be a map disc with this sale) but got no reply!

From other listings it looks as though they are pushing the price up through "Buy it Now" with a high starting price - no wonder they are not selling and getting relisted.

I'm holding off for the moment - good luck if you go for it.

Prices for the Columbus have dropped considerably over the last 12 months. This time last year they were just under £1K, even for the factory refurbs. I paid £800 for mine last september, so prices now are very competative. I dont see them dropping much more otherwise they will be priced at what the MFD2 (its predecessor) is still selling for.

A = Octavia II

B = Superb II

C = Umm... dunno :confused:

You definitely need a Ver A... let us know if your steering wheel buttons work once you get one fitted & coded? Couple of us on here haven't had any joy. Cheers! :)

C = the new version, not yet available but rumoured to support 32GB SDHC cards rather than the 2GB of the current unit.

It looks like the MFD2 are now going for £250 - £350 on Ebay. So it's possible the MFD3 units will come below £500 - well let's hope so anyway!

Nothing jumps out & screams dodgy - He (she??) is definitely one of the trusted sellers that others on here have bought from... decent price too.

It's a 1Z unit - you have an Octavia??

Can't see anything blindingly obvious that's amiss there - go for it!!

It's a she, and my second unit works fine. Ball-acher getting the first one sent back, cost me £40 which I didn't get back

Nice, will be interesting to see what else they've done. Would be nice to think they'd improve the navigation logic to stop it doing spazzy routes. I really like the RNS510 but my Kenwood KNA-DV3200 was much more reliable at picking sensible routes.

Can TallioN dump his codings?

I spent ages fiddling about with another member's MFSW and Columbus and never got it working properly, toggling BAP, etc, etc., no joy.

It might just be down to controller revisions.

Sorry, didn't read your post properly. Whiskey...

hmmm - i wonder if this is the one you sent back (hence being so cheap)...

Could be, but she does do a lot of units.

To all those interested in purchasing from Grielka on ebay, I would at this point in time advise you NOT to. Following the firmware thread makes for interesting reading and reading between the lines its quiet possible, since she has not denied it that grielka is selling stolen units that have been brute force hacked to get the radio code. At least one members unit purchased from her is showing the tell tale signs of having been brute force hacked. Look on these 2 pages for images and a response from the seller on ebay.

This thread and the firmware thread both appear on page one of google if you do a search for grielka and stolen, so hopefully these threads will help to deter buyers.

Its also quiet possible that the cheaper units on ebay are stolen, so I would advise that unless the unit comes with the official code card then it maybe best to avoid those units.

Wish I'd known this 4 months ago! Would have saved me a lot of hassle. I used this thread and recommendations from previous purchasers to help my decision, so hopefully this will help stop any further suffering.

Has anyone bought a RNS 510 off ebay from " cds_and_dvds_online" managed to do the new fw update?

i'm not brave enough :o

I hope Wega can get his sorted soon :)

If we're honest with ourselves, pretty much all the £500ish units must be from dodgy sources.

I cant see many, if any, legit units for sub £1000.

Not yet. Want to have another look when I get the BT fitted on Wed to see if the seals are intact. If it looks OK,I'll ask whether it's worth the risk. I did get the official card with mine, so fingers crossed.

Were your seals intact on yours?

So much for the "refurbished units" theory eh... :rotz:

I'm sorry, but there are a couple of peeps on here who think that by telling themselves they are not stolen units, it's ok to buy one at a discount. we all know why they're so cheap... I pretty much agree with gadgetman and I simply know most of you do too, until a "bargain" comes round and you end up buying one.

If I were you guys, I'd report the seller asap, which would include - unfortunately - you turning in your unit and waving goodbye to your money spent. Perhaps the rightful owner could be tracked?

I noticed the seals on mine had been cut very cleanly. You had to look close to see that they had been cut with a sharp knife.

I also got a card with serial number and code on.

I suppose the only way to really check is to take the unit apart like Wega did. And look for fresh soldering on one of the chips ?

I can't say the status of mine.

I bought mine from Jarastech

It came with a very official looking VW card:

On one side it says:

VW

Unit Card

CodeCard

On the other it has my 4 digit code.

Haven't tried the upgrade on mine - simply too scared!

After careful deliberation, I have decided not to give mine to the police for these reasons:

They're probably not interested and it would likely be put in a bag with a reference number, sat on a shelf for a year and sold at a police auction.

I don't have conclusive proof that it is stolen, only very strong indicators.

If the unit was stolen we have no idea if that was from a car or from a factory, nor which country it was stolen from.

If it was stolen from a car in the UK (small chance), there is no easy way for the police to match the unit up to the right car. Furthermore, given I bought the unit in April, the unit would have been taken some time before that and the rightful owner would have had theirs replaced through insurance ages ago. Additionally, why would anyone want a bricked unit back?

I'm pretty sure the police would be utterly useless in this matter indeed.

I do - however - suspect that your local Skoda dealer could look up the rightful owner if prompted to do so. At least, that's what my dealer told me after I was getting a little scared about my Columbus being nicked...

And I also do get why you're not going that route either. I guess you can call it human nature... (which doesn't make it right, of course)

The sad thing is: people on this forum will now probably steer clear of these units, yet the sellers will have no trouble selling their units, as there will always be people not interesting, not caring. Again, human nature... ;)

Perhaps you send could your rns510 back to grieka. Maybe she can fix it?

It doesn't make up for selling possibly stolen units but might be able to get you up and running again.

Just a thought :)

There was a post on the second page of this thread that gave a strong 'heads up' that these may be stolen units. That's why I've not bought one - you have to be very naive to think that there would be all these 'refurbished' units floating around. There is an awful lot of stolen ICE on Ebay and the trouble is that far too many buyers see a low price and turn a blind eye. This trade in stolen units is causing a lot of owners a lot of grief - its not just the loss of the ICE unit, its the damage done getting into the car and pulling the unit out.

Yes, I am aware of that. There was also info from a Briskoda staff member about the plant refurbishing units in Lithuania and plenty of feedback from happy users regarding their purchases. I was actually making reference to one specific seller and my personal purchase experiences.

I am genuinely not aware of the size of the stolen goods market on Ebay so I wouldn't want to comment on that, but I don't think that implying that all the people who have bought Ebay units turned a blind eye to buying stolen goods is at all right or fair. Ebay is a system based on trust, and there will always be people who abuse that trust through whatever means. This doesn't make all the users untrustworthy.

And my unit had seals intact.

 Yeah, she's a real helpful lady lately...

Here's the response from Grielka earlier today when I asked if, given that she'd sold me a stolen unit, she would give me a refund or sort me out with a new unit...

As you can see , I sold many RNS-510 , and all clients haven't any problem .

What you done with unit - I don't know . It is not mine problem .
