That is a bargain. Hope someone off here grabs it.

That is great - thanks Simbo99. My unit should arriving in the next day or two so will let you all know how I get on fitting it. Managed to shock myself just changing a light socket so should be fun...:D

Just bought one from this guy. Fast delivery, well packaged and looks like new. Fitted it last night and it works great. Bargin price compared to some of the others on ebay and free p&p. how does he manage it???

Mike_W - You'll be fine. If I managed it, anyone can! :) Just familiarise yourself with the process from my photos while you're waiting for it. rns510 installation pics - Photobucket

Your pictures are excellant - thanks - have looked at them a few times now and am sure will be sorted...One question - did you only remove the air-con vents to fit the arial? If that is the case then I will not have to do that right as I am replacing my existing NAV unit? Don't really have to rip up the dash if not required....

Correct. If you've got an mfd2 already, no need to take the top box out. You won't even need a trim removal tool, just pull the radio trim away by hand from the bottom.

If you're about to purchase a Columbus/RNS510 for your Octy II and you need a new trim peice then you may like to have a look in the "For Sale" section

Err, seriously thinking of getting one for my VRS LE. Does any one know the part number for the Fascia plate for the Columbus with the new Climatronic unit?

Well, you guys were all correct - was really straight forward installing the Columbus unit. Took me about 20 min of which 10 min was spent trying to remove the trim without braking it.

A couple of things though, if I turn on the ignition and turn on the radio it comes on immidiately but if I start the engine and turn on the radio it takes about 30 seconds to come on - anybody else had this?

Now need to sell my older nav unit. Thanks to all for the helpfull comments.

Well I now have a fitted and working RNS510! Grielka has sent me a new one after admitting the old one was knacked (as I said) and hopefully things will keep on working. There are some better deals out there than hers though, so don't just take my bad experience into account when you choose yours!

I had no issues with Grielka, thats who mine came from 12 months ago and its still working perfectly to this day.

Mike_W - Glad you're sorted.

WaveyDavey - Glad you're finally sorted.

Farmerp2005 - Not sure on the part number to go around the new climate control module. Check with a dealer and post it here and PM it to VRSStu so he can update his site too.

Will do. Been trying to contact Stu, has anyone heard from him recently? Trying to get a BT Kit (Knew I should have taken it out of my old one, but thought I'd be nice to the buyer of my old Octi :-( )

Always nice to know someone else has used the same guy - was hoping mine would arrive today but I geuss it will have to wait until Monday now.....

I bought mine from the same guy so it's good to know he is supplying good units!

Its at home waiting to be fited along with a Maxidot, Auto light switch and an antenna adapter. Just need to get home from overseas and get the tools out!

OK, just won one from cds_and_dvds_online. \Just gotta wait for it to be delivered now. Still haven't found the new fascia plate part no. Will try my Dealer's parts dept, unless anyone else has the no for one that'll fit a VRS LE?

Martin

Hi Simbo,

as for fitting the unit, the procedure is pretty well shown on VrsStu's website, it shouldn't be any different.

As for the fascia plate, the Bolero is the same shape as the older Stream radio, the columbus is a bit smaller and squarer (identical to the MDF2) , so pretty sure it will need a different one. It would be brilliant if they'd made them the same shape.

Martin

I can't find the info I had, but it was my understanding that it was the new climatronic unit that was slightly differently shaped?

Steve

Dude! :D I know all that... I meant explain how you actually buy one, not how you fit one... it was a kinda joke... the guy in that thread I linked to keeps banging on about Witson/cheapo replica's & loads of us have repeatedly advised (in many different threads) on buying the real deal (like you just did) rather than an MFD3 cheapo wannabe.

:orb_lol:

Simbo,

My bad, just re-read the thread (and the link). What a prat I am, should have seen that joke coming. Put it down to the shift work I'm on at the mo (knackered). Yeah, no probs, I'll explain how to do a make an offer on Flea Bay. hehe.

No probs on the Bolero shape, yeah, it is the same shape as the Stream, really don't know why they did that. As for the adjustments on climatronic showing up on the Bolero, yes they do with some pretty graphics this time round. I have seen the Columbus do the same trick on a factory fit, so I'll let you know if it does it on mine when it shows up.

Wardy, yep you're right. The earlier climatronic had a large D shaped panel for the controls and a second rectangular cutout for the displays etc, the new one had a d shaped cutout, but no display cutout above it. I'll keep looking and put the part no up when I've got it.

need glasses

Bought one from cds_and_dvds_online waiting for it to be delivered now. Can't wait, £515 including free delivery to Ireland, great price

The LE and FLs have a different version of convenience then, as changes to temp etc on my Climatronic no longer show up on the Bolero screen. Neither does a picture of the car for PDC when I select reverse. I'm not bothered about either as the lovliness of the Bolero more than makes up for it, and neither was very useful anyway.
