Just playing devil's advocate for a moment.

It seems lots of people have bought items from Grielka with no problems whatsoever, either thinking they are totally legitimate, closing their eyes to the fact that they are stolen or whatever, and have been, presumably, happy with their purchases.

Had it not been for the OP's thread, those purchasers presumably would have continued to be happy with their purchase. There have been warnings with other software releases that it could be possible to end up bricking the unit, and people have either taken the risk or not bothered, happier to be safe than sorry.

Now all of a sudden, lots of people are concluding, without, from what I can see, any more damning evidence, that all these units must be stolen.

I personally don't think it's a case that the CPS would take on to prosecute.

Yeah, I hear you Brimma but every time I state that it's stolen in an email to her, she never contradicts me. The clincher is the solder on the EPROM. Legit units would never have any reason to have been crudely soldered onto like that, not even remanufactured ones.

Fair play - I've not ripped mine apart like Simeon to check, so I can't speak for mine. It does though have a purple naviandbmwparts seal on either side, stating void if broken, so what's inside is anybody's guess.

 Yeah, she's a real helpful lady lately...

Here's the response from Grielka earlier today when I asked if, given that she'd sold me a stolen unit, she would give me a refund or sort me out with a new unit...

subject Re: Forum warnings and refund

Why you write me ?

I sent you unit in working condition , you self after 2-3 month broke unit with copy CD from internet with update .

About Forums : I am not interesting what you write .

I can do new forum , that you is a cheater , so what ? All must read it ?

As you can see , I sold many RNS-510 , and all clients haven't any problem .

What you done with unit - I don't know . It is not mine problem .

Tell her you've contacted Skoda CZ to trace the history of the supplied unit?

Has anyone bought a RNS 510 off ebay from " cds_and_dvds_online" managed to do the new fw update?

Yes, did mine this morning with no problems at all (apart from initial grief getting the correct program to burn the DVD!)

Hi keith, Glad all went ok :)

Did you take yours apart to see if the chip had been soldered?

No I coudnt be bothered to be honest, I just gave it a shot. Previous posters have recovered from a failed update so I thought it was worth a bash, thankfully it was fine and it now plays SDHC cards no problem (that was my motivation for doing the update)

Keith, you're saying nice things to me here. Might just give mine a go next week.

Even bricked units? How?

From the posts I have read across several VW based forums people whose upgrade to 266x has failed/stalled/not worked correctly have often been able to downgrade and return to the previous F/W status.

Maybe not all, I dont know. There is that guy form vwnavi.com who can fix them as well so I thought it was worth the risk as I really wanted the SDHC feature enabled.

Read this thread with interest. Have an MFD2 unit which had since new. Bit annoyed as the Mfd3 came out not long after I bought the car. Given the seemingly high risk that units on eBay are a bit "risky" apart from Skoda dealers where is the best place to get one at the best price?

I checked mine (also from naviandbmwparts) yesterday when I took it out to fit a single to dual aerial adaptor.

Green void if broken seals on both sides. As mine also came with a properly printed code card (albeit unbranded) I've seen nothing to convince me that it might have been stolen.
