Don't be too quick to upgrade the firmware due to high risk of 'bricking' the unit - numerous other threads warn of this.

I'm more than happy with the way mine works - it's a great addition

Check to see what version of firmware the unit is currently at, with the 3TO one I think the current version is 1104. But normal firmware rules apply - if it aint broke don't try and fix it!!

Watch with the inbuilt DVD as burnt DVDs need to be good ones as the unit is not very forgiving, burning faults are noticable on music (mp3) DVDs so it could be disasterous with data (maps, firmware etc)

It's fitted & working (sort of) my maxidot now shows a Navigation menu & shows the compass, arrows, street name, track playing etc but if I switch the HU off, the maxidot gets confused. Only the volume buttons on my MFSW work too - non of the other search/scan/mute buttons work so I'm guessing that's a VAG-COM issue?

All coding issues, should be easy to sort.

Yes it did, ordered Weds night, failed delivery Monday, collected Tuesday. Looking to install tomorrow, but had some issues with getting the old trim off, then found my new trim is marked so taking it back. But apart from that everything seems fine!

Well got it installed, everything seems fine then the screen goes dark! Looks like it's faulty, really not happy. Got in touch with grielka to try and resolve this, will keep you posted as to outcome.

You've probably already checked but if not... have you got it set to Darkest?

It's in: Setup | Display Setup | Brightness...

Let us know how you get on anyway... it'll be good for others to know how efficient/responsive grielka is at resolving problems.

I did check! The screen comes on normally, then goes extremely dark so you can hardly see the detail.

It has to be said the sound is excellent but the GPS is pretty useless with no screen! So far grielka has been quick to respond but we'll see what happens when I send it back...

Quick update - posted the unit back, now I'm £40 lighter . Went to collect the fascia trim from DM Keith (second one, first was damaged) and lo and behold that was marked too. Apparently they just chuck the parts in a metal cage without a care in the world. Either I'm the world's unluckiest man or it's just not destined to be...

Grielka's a woman? Sorry to hear of your problem. Couldn't quite tell from the pic but is the backlight dying altogeher or could it be the LDR was dodgy and it was just dropping it to the lowest brightness?

I think the backlight was going intermittently, as the brightness was so low you couldn't read the screen. Not a good feature. Parcel is still in transit to her, so will probably be another week till this is sorted.

Which they are stating is the newer version??

IMPORTANT: most sellers on ebay offers older Version (not Columbus) with partnumber 1Z0 035 680.

My unit is newest Version!

Hello everyone. My first article/reply. Like so many of you I have just bought the latest Columbus Nav unit and will be fitting to my Octy II VRS. A couple of comments, my car came with the factory fitted older NAV unit - I am assuming this will be a straight swap out. There have also been some older articles about FM/AM reception - is this something I should worry about and lastly - do these units not plug into the ECU meaning I need a dealer to program???

Obviously a novice so would appreciate any advice...ta.
