Wiper Question - Annoying Line Of Water

Featured Replies

pretty much as soon as i got my vRS i put new wipers on, the thing is the n/s edge of the o/s blade always leaves a line of water when i use them, i cant remember if it did it with the old blades as they were only on a few days before i fitted new ones, its right at the very edge of the rubber, ive had a look and there is no dirt or anything on the rubber or anything on the end of the blade

im really anal with having a clean screen, i go through LOADS of screenwash, and this line is driving me mad, i keep having to wipe to get rid of it, but by the time i do ive dried the rest of the screen out so much if there is any road spray on the screen i get smears, so need to use the screen wash again, and the cycle continues lol

anyone elses wipers do this ?....it seems to be maybe picking water up from the little triangle in the middle where both wipers miss, and then it runs off that edge of the blade all the way up the screen as its wiping

the wipers are genuine blades from TPS

i think its to do with the age of the wiper and how much crud is on it, havent noticed it on my new blades but over the past 6 months with old blades it was noticable as it wasnt there when i got the car.

these are both new blades though

Have you fitted the wipers in the right way?Bends downwards and the wiper's locked end at bottom(closer to wiper arm joint)?

^^^WHS make sure drivers side has aerofoil at bottom, and passenger side the 'smiley' shape faces upwards.

Nearside edge of offside blade? That should be wiped over by the nearside blade, and then onto the bottom of the screen when the offside blade goes back down again...???

it does, but leaves a line on its way back down, maybe its picking up water from the top of the windscreen

seems only mine thats doing it though, might have to buy another wiper it seems !

probably won't help you... but i give my blades a good seeing to with white vinegar everymonth or so. rejuvinates the rubber and takes off all the traffic crud. or so i was told. works for me though.

will give it a go mate, ive heard that before but i didnt think vinegar would be very good for the rubber to be honest

I've just fitted bosch aerotwins, same problem

Mmmmm rubber and vinegar, the next Walkers crisps.

That's the best solution yup. I also use it to clean windows. Gets all the dirt, and leaves them streak free.

You could always try a product like rain-x

i remember me gran used it for cleaning everything... (vingar that is) i'll alway remember her house smelling like a chippy when i was a nipper.

you are not alone in being anal about a clean screen my missus reckons ive got ocd when it comes to it, she says it's a pity i'm not the same in the house!

;)

sorry but glad its ot just me, does nobody else have this problem then ?

yeah, our Fabia does this using (new) standard wiper blades from the dealer. And the Audi does it too using blades from the Skoda dealers.

More annoying is that the area where the blades overlap appears streaky, almost greasy - very difficult to see through when its dark and really annoying in the daylight. Its fine when the wipers sweep up, but streaky/greasy when they come back down. Gave the screen a good clean with some spray on windowlean - made it better for just one day. Then tried Autoglym glass polish - better for a few days then back to its greasy streaky ways. New blades too. Even tried another new set in case the first set were dodgy. :(

You will find with random blades you get off Ebay, they do not "spring" back at the end of the sweep, due to the rubber being too weak & the strength of the arm being too strong for it. This means although it pulls up correctly, the rubber does not turn at the end of the sweep and it pushes water down, like a snow plough, instead of pulling it with the turned edge, more like sweeping backwards with a broom. :) Hope that makes sense

I have bosch aerotwins and never have this issue, compared to when I had £10 "flat blades" from Ebay.

vinger works a treat and wont wreck your blades a sachet from a fast food outlet along with their napkins does the job and free

as mentioned though mate, these are new OE blades i have on

I fitted Boch Areo's and get this.. so does my mates C4.

I just asumed it was the blade "over loading" and the water spilling off the end of the blade.. fades after a minute or 2..
