Fogged out vRS - Need some advice

Featured Replies

Hi,

Long time no post but I've been entirely happy with my wee furby RS until this winter.

Problem is it mists up inside like no one's business, all windows & windscreen whenever it frosts or I jetwash it. I also have to scrape the inside of the windscreen if it's really frosty.

I have been to the dealers with it for various things & three times I have mentioned it, three times have the dealers said they cannot find fault with the seals.

After jet washing the boot & both rear door seals are wet at the bottom (boot is wet all round) & have to be wiped down, if then left in the sun then the condensation returns.

I need to get this fixed asap as the warranty runs out early february.

Bit of background, 3 months into owning it an idiot pulled out & straight into my D/S back wing & the bumper had to be replaced, so I assume the seals had to come out, could this be the cause? Also the lil plastic bit for the roof rack front passenger side has been removed, don't know how this happened, another potential cause?

As it stands my car is defrosting outside & looks like it's been used for an intensive dogging session/turkish sauna

Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated! I need some ammo to take to the dealers tomorrow, as whenever I drive it there (approx 35 miles) the car has dried out & they claim no fault found.

P.S. If there's a official Skoda bulletin about the door seals I'd love to know the bulletin number as my dealer is taking a very flippant attitude to this problem & my next nearest is 150miles away!

I also get terrible trouble with the rear side windows, despite being sealed and remaining effective.

With just me in the car it doesnt steam up but with 2 or more its like a sauna.

There are plenty of posts on the board about leaky door seals, and misty windows.

Have a look through some of the posts >>HERE<<

and a few more >>HERE<<

Seems, door seals, pollen filter and blocked plenum drain thingy's are the most common causes.

Mine does it too, my o/s rear door seal is the culprit i believe. It's been in to the dealer 4 or 5 times now to be sealed, the last time it went in i thought they'd finally got it, but alas, over the winter it started leaking again. I will try a diy attempt this time round i think..... as soon as we get a long enough spell of dry weather to dry the doors out.

Hope you sort it.

edit... oh, and here is the guide for re-sealing the doors if you need it: Re-sealing Fabia rear ancillaries carriers

I've had this problem for 4 years, having been told numerous times it was the rear door seals but unable to find a fault finally on Saturday I identified the culprit!!

This may be a little hard to explain but when it rains the water is running down the rear windows and into the doors but instead of running down & out of the bottom of the doors through the little holes like it should the water is coming out of the lock where the hook bit clasps the bar to hold the door shut, this then allows the water to run down the metal work inside the door & the water pools at the bottom around the inner seal, once there is enough there it breaches the seal and can then soak into the carpet & down into the foot wells, it also soaks the interior of the door!!

I've taken the rear mats out and brought them indoors to dry & am praying for a long hot summer to dry the car out but I'm now searching for a way of solving the problem?? My initial thoughts are mastic sealant??

once the door carriers have been sealed, give all inside windows a good polish, it helps to cut down on misting as the moisture doesnt stick to the glass as easily

SWMBO bought a new digital SLR which came with a shed load of silica gel - would a few strategically placed packets help (even if just temporarily through rainy season)??

Do the Fabia's run a pollen filter? If so then maybe that isn't fitted properly or is missing all together? If your car mists up inside that quickly when you pressure wash it then I doubt it's something like rear door seals as it would take a bit of time for the water to get in and then actually cause misting.
