Anyone ever bought an Aldi computer?

Featured Replies

I'm in the market for a new general purpose computer, and this is on offer this week at Aldi.

Seems like decent spec for the price. Any opinions about it?

Thanks

Steve

We have a medion laptop at home, and its very good. Spec of that machine doesnt seem to bad either.

I've never bought a computer from them but one of my friends bought a pc many a year ago and had no problems with it until he started to upload stuff to the computer like files etc.

does it have separate graphics card or is it an onboard affair?

It has a seperate ATI Radeon HD4350 by the looks of it.

I had a Medion PC a few years back from Toy's R Us. It lasted years and I ended up giving it away to family in the end when it was out of date. The only problem I had with it was the power button. A new switch later and it carried on and on.

3 year warranty can't be sniffed at either,

I got the weekly email from them with the PC in, looks nice to me and they seem to be quite well respected.

As above 3yrs warranty is not to be dismissed too lightly.

Bargain :)

They are quiet too. A workmate bought one and is impressed with the real life performance.

Good machine, the hard disk is going to be a western digital device due to the greenpower they mention.

Good drive, apparently not the fastest out there or the slowest and uses less power so should be fine for home.

Unless you're going to go mad on gaming, I think that's a good buy and a 3 year warranty is again useful. Lets face it if that dies in 2.5 years time, I'd guess they would just replace it with a current PC as that would be cheaper than picking up parts for this in 3 years time :)

Moved too the Tech shed for a more geeky auidience.:D

I have a Medion Laptop which we bought last year. It works well with a very good spec and was relatively cheap.

The only problem is someone tripped over the power lead and broke the power socket on the motherboard. I suppose this could happen with any laptop. Does anyone know how or where I can get it fixed? When researching it last year I did read in a forum that the Medion customer service/ after sales care was very poor.

Find somebody who is good at electronics and get them to solder it back onto the board.

Thanks to all for your input.

I must say that I'm surprised at all the positive remarks and not one negative.

I'll get one tomorrow, and should be ok for stock as long as skodaboy stays away from the Aldi in Musselburgh until I've been there first!

Cheers all

Usually with these killer deals they'll only have a handful, so you need to be in there when they open, otherwise you may miss out. Lunch time's too late usually.

The earliest I could get to the shop was 0930hrs, and a guy was in the middle of asking for one of these computers. So I asked if I could have one too, only to be told the guy had bought the last one!

I went to a quieter/smaller store than normal hoping that there would be less folk there; the guy who bought my one said that he'd been to t'other store in Musselburgh and they'd sold out of stock (a mighty 6 units!) within 10 minutes of opening.

So many thanks for all the advice - looks like the hunt goes on.

My parents computer came from Aldi over a year ago. No problems at all!

I bought a Medion media PC from them about 3.5 years ago and it ran 24/7 for 3 years before it started glitching. It now needs a new mobo but I cannot be bothered yet lol.

Not bought one myself but never heard a bad word from those that have. Support is good as well.

You do have to double check the spec with other retailers. Often you can get something similar for a bit less (though probably without the 3yr warranty).

Keep an eye out in other places too. One of the geeks at work picked up an Acer netbook for £150 in Asda.

Buy it, you won't be disappointed.

A PC is a PC is a PC is the sum of it's components. There are really only 6 manufacturers of motherboards, 4 hard drive manufacturers, 2 CPU manufacturers and 4 or 5 manufacturers of RAM. Windows always comes from Microsoft, so when you buy a PC you buy the specification and whether you like the look of the case. That spec. looks very reasonable for the price, and it has indications that it has some capacity to be upgraded. As has been previously noted, it's not going to make you ditch your Playstation for gaming, however Medion are a huge brand in mainland Europe and Aldi stuff is generally very high quality. I'd go for it!

Thanks for the advice but I refer you with some  to post 19 where I was pipped at the line.

wja96 - if I had more time on my hands I would build my own up as I researched that a couple of years ago and it looked pretty straight forward to me as long as one does ones homework.

However, if anybody can be bothered, here are some alternatives that a good friend of mine dug up for me - so  to her for that!

Acer # 1

Acer # 2

HP

Advent

Cheers
