Ok I haven't been here long so if this has been done before then sorry. My question is what made you buy a Fabia, why not a Corsa or Fiesta or Polo etc?

For me it was just the right car at the right price.

I bought my vRS because it was the fastest I could afford and the cheapest to run. The petrol equivalent would have been more to insure and I'd cry every time I had to fill the tank up.

I was limited from my criteria.

Had to be diesel, had to be over 110bhp, had to be 5 door and preferably VAG.

Looked around, came to a toss up between an A3 or the VRS. Went for the VRS as got a better spec and newer car for the same money.

At the time I got my first fabia (1.9sdi) the contributing factors were:

- Cheap insurance

- Cheap running costs

- More modern car than anything else I could afford for the same money

Now I got this one (vrs) because I liked the basic specced models so much :)

At the time of buying myself and my girlfriend were looking for a car between us, I was quite intrested in the new shape Fabia, but was not looking to change at the time. Girlfriend's brother suggested a Fabia vRS to her, so the next again day we had a look at the dealer and arranged a test drive and then bought it.

If I had not bought the Fabia I would be driving another focus by now.

For me it had to safe (4 stars euroNcap thingy +), under 2k, be cheap to insure and have ABS brakes. It also had to fit me in as I am quite tall and the only other cars that matched that were a Mark II Punto (sold it due to brakes) or a Corsa (didn't fit) or a Clio (didn't like).

As a new driver people kept telling me to be careful and that I was likely to be involved in accidents etc hence I wanted a safe car and the ABS was becuase the Punto I learnt in didn't have it and resulted in a few close calls.

1. Cheap to insure.

2. Cheap to run.

3. High ratings in customer survey's.

ok for me it was the top gear review put it on my radar when it beat a mini then after reading some reviews of the vRS and driving my mothers elegance (1.9 TDi 100bhp) I decided to take the plunge.

Now orginally I was going to spend about 10k on a newish vRS but when I saw the SE I decided that blue was my colour (I am a city fan after all lol). £13kish is well worth it. leather seats, 2k's worth of options and the fact I know it's not ran into the ground :)

I'll be keeping this car for a long time (hopefully).

Value for money considering the VAGness... that and a mate of mine was considering buying one - so I did it first to annoy him! :)

I don't actually like 5 door cars but it was my only compromise. Well, regret not waiting for one with cruise but I got a good deal at the time. Having sold it in October after 2 years I miss it so much that I'm considering buying another!

I bought mine as a change from my Octy vRS.

Just had no need for a big car really, so time for a little one. :)

I have always been a fan of the VRS since it first came out and when my girlfriend got a job where she had to commute, we needed a reliable, good mpg car, so after looking at the VRS and seeing we couldnt afford one, we bought an SDi after reading all the good reviews of the fabia in general. Then when the sdi started to get old we upgraded to a VRS. For the money we couldn't find another car, with the spec, or the power or the newness or the low miles. An audi at the same price woul dhave done 70-80k.

I needed a self funded company car, which could cover the mileage, was fun to drive and I could parts cheap for (as I used to work for Skod).

It covers all those criterias and more... I love it!!

'Why' the hell not....

I got fed up of VW after sales service, having run VW cars for 28 years. The 2005 9N Polo I had was just plain boring. Always fancied a VRS, and when a 2007SE came up at a decent price I grabbed it. Sensible performance with sensible running costs. Still puts a grin on my chops when I give it beans. :D

My criteria were:

1) Had to be 7.5K or below

2) Newer than a 52 Plate

3) Be insurance group 9 for less (19 years old with 0 ncb)

4) Practical/ 5 Door

In the end it was between Ibiza FR and Fabia VRS and simply got the Fabia as it had more space and felt better built, although I do like the FR's sporty extras

Almost Identical story here, bought a 1.4 petrol elegance and biggest spec and youngest bang for the money.. then, bought a vRS for the speed increase.

The story starts as i went out to see if there were any cheap Suzuki Vitara's around to use for off-roading as a second car (at the time i owned a lovely 53-Plate MK4 Astra SRI 1.8 with Pro-Drive Pack). Whilst going past a dealers forecourt i noticed a lovely Subaru Impreza WRX Bug-eye which had a few extra's. Test drove it etc decided i wanted it (spur of the moment thing as it was a scooby and im 19 lol) went to put deposit down on the day only to find my original insurance quote for it went from 3K to 4.5K so i abandoned that choice and was really gutted about it (im sooo glad i didnt get it now though) My old man then suggested to have another look round to see if there was anything else that i might have been interested in, He then pointed out the VRS, So took it out for a drive and our reactions were WOW! it felt soo much better than the Scooby, i wanted it straight away! so put a deposit down and i collected it a couple days later, and i am sooooooo glad that i didnt get the Scooby. SKODA For The Win!!!!

i needed a car and my local dealer didnt have any mk1 octy vrs' in so i picked a fabia instead.

Several years ago when the VRS had just been launched, my missus bought a 2nd hand Micra from a Skoda dealer in Durham (don't ask), I was wandering round the showroom while she was sorting out the finance and saw a black Fabia VRS (mmmmmmmm shiny) and it was love at first sight! I sat in the car and it just felt perfect. The salesman came over and handed me a little leaflet with the spec of the car and for the next few days I read the print off it! :)

I picked one up last year and wished I had got it earlier!

For me it is a lot classier than a Corsa, cooler than a Clio and far superior to a Fiesta! :thumbup:

VRS, the thinking mans' performance car! ;)

I would not have the corsa, just the way I am. I test drove a ibiza cupra diesel and while it was quick, it was just so hard. I have coilies on the vrs know and it still feels softer than the seat. Also there was no room in the back of the seat, the polo looked good but only 100bhp and was more expensive than the VRS. I cant see me getting rid of my vrs for a long time unless someone can slot an more interesting engine into the mk1 fabia.

When I was looking around for a new car 2 1/2 years ago (Aug 06) I whittled it down to 3 cars, a Mini Cooper, a Fiesta 1.4TDCI or the Fabia vRS.

I read in magazines that the Fiesta was much improved in design and has decent suspension, but there was not one at the local dealers to test drive or buy at that moment. Looking at the performance figures now, it seams very slow, but being diesel it could be re-mapped.

I love the look externally and the interior of the (BMW) Mini Cooper, TBH better than the Fabia, I used to have an old miniMetro so always liked minis. When I test drove it felt very cramped, almost like a Tardis in reverse, it felt quite firm, either from the hard suspension or run-flat tyres, although it was a short test drive. I actually found it quite slow, although i had just driven a vRS that morning. The mini was over priced for what it was, I could get a 2yo Fabia for the same price of a 4yo mini, but they do (did) hold the prices very well.

I chose the Fabia becouse my mother baught one a year earlier (1.9 TDI 100hp) and loves it. It has 5 doors,unlike the minis 3, got a decent sized boot, unlike the mini and does 45-50mpg per tankfull. I love the kick in the back you get at 2000rpm in any gear when the turbo wakes up. Skoda being part of VAG means it is a VW Polo with a different badge but cheaper. I still love the car evan after a few minor niggles.

Bought my first car, a 1.4mpi, as it was cheap to buy, run, insure, etc, plus my big feet made driving my mum's 206 a big problem...seriously!

Bought my 2nd one, a 1.9tdi elegance, because of the spec, age, mileage, colour, the big diesel, and because of the good experience I had with my first one :) it was just 'right'.

And I like german cars/cars of germanish origin!

a) soft spot for it since Top Gear review and other media write ups

B) could afford it

c) Good mpg

d) most beans I could have for the money

e) lots of mods could be done

f) not that common (although have no idea why)

g) very reliable

h) last but not least highly underestimated

I wanted a complete change (performance, cost, perception) from my Mk1 Clio 172 sport. That was 3 years ago and I have never looked back. Life is so much better with the vRS, which to me is a better car in every department (even performance - it just feels so much quicker even if it's not on paper). I don't miss the traffic light grand prixs one bit. :thumbup:

cos it had Skoda on the back..........
