Agreed - it's been on nearly as much as the Octy going through the church roof !

It supposedly sold once.

Possibly a good buy for someone if its been fixed properly. :)

If Ian wants it deleted then I'm more than happy to do it.

hmmm, engine is sound... did the insurers ever sort the engine out after the thieving scum ragged the f--- out of it?

There was, IIRC nothing wrong with the engine and it ran fine. The problem was a fault code on the ecu, that stated that "max engine speed had been exceeded warranty void". Having seen how easy it is to generate the fault, having done it a few times on my old vRS with no problems I dont think its a real issue. Once cleared with VAG-COM nobody would ever know.

Is that a common problem?! If its over reved, the it voids the warrenty?! Wow, what happend to making a car build to be driven hard.

But I think that fault code was on there a number of times along with a distinct lack of oil in the sump it wouldn't have done it any good at all

I didnt think the overspeed condition fault could be cleared via VAG-COM, I thought it always came back

As for being built to be driven hard, this isn't a Honda VTEC, it's an Octavia. The only way to do it is to accidentally (or maybe in this case deliberatley) change into a higher gear when going too fast. The engine wont be fuelling though so it probably isn't damaged in any way

There was a lack of oil in the sump and the garage feared for the condition of the Turbo. It was driven hard enough to melt the Lambda sensor in the downpipe.

so it probably isn't damaged in any way

I take that back :D

:wave23d: Yes I'm here.

Car was deemed to be a write off as the garage wanted to add an engine and turbo to the bodywork bill of 4.5k.

The engine overspeed had occured 8 times.

All gone now but it seems not forgotten. I just hope whoever buys it doesn't come on here.

That's got nothing to do with it - If you massively exceed the designed RPM you may get valve/piston contact and other damage regardless.

It sounds like a basket case.

So sad to see what was an immaculate car in such a state :(

Yeah, but what I meant was if you accidentally changed from gear 5 to 2 instead of 4, and say accidentally touched 8-9k (Did this once by accident) then the chances of instant or long term damage are not that high, engine braking will bring the speed down very quick

On the other hand if you removed the rev limiter and acually drove it up to (And Sustained) those RPM's it's not going to last long

Either way that particular car sounds like it was being deliberatley driven to destruction, theiving scum:mad:

of course it was, as the phrase goes "drive it like its stolen", they certainly were not going to take it for a potter down to the shops.

Enjoy:-
