Its a bast**d, honest!

Featured Replies

Following in the footsteps of other members, I tried to remove the "Its a skoda. Honest." sticker from my rear windscreen at the weekend. BLOODY HELL! Did I have fun with that. Firstly it was blowing a gale, so I gave up on the "have the bootlid up and sit in the boot method" - Instead I was hunched over the rear seats, with a blunt knife. I must have been there half an hour getting every little fiddly sticker off, as pointed out by someone, each letter and even every full stop, was an individual sticker.

The worst thing was having to be so careful (under such duress) NOT to accidentally hack off a section of the rear windscreen demister. (whatever the technical name is) Luckily, I was pretty careful and no damage was inflicted. The odd sticker, the "h" and "k", overlapped one element but they peeled off OK (after much hacking with the knife, and cussing generally). Even after wiping with white spirit to get the cacky gunk off, there were still bits I missed so I'm going to have a "sticker removal - the sequel" next weekend.

So, anyone feeling like removing their honest stickers, have patience and be careful. Also keep the car doors shut so the neighbours don't hear you screaming, "GET OFF, YOU ****!!!"

Sounds like you had fun, Jason! :1:

I'm suddenly feeling very glad that my fab didn't come with an "honest" sticker when I got it...

likewise, I guess they removed mine when they did the tints.

Thankfully they also removed the 4X4 turbo sticker from the rear window I have seen many with, it's about 5" high! subtle! :D

Well you can't say I didn't warn you ..... :nono: :p

Cheers, Nick. It was you wasn't it? hehe. While I think about it, I also used a turtle wax product to restore the black/grey bits of plastic in the car at the same time. I thought it was quite nice because it was flavoured Citrus'ey, and its quite pleasant to get in the car in the morning. Main problem was some of the spray must have got on the foot pedals (despite having all windows open to ventilate) and the pedals became really slippy. (I read the can after and it said "DO NOT USE ON PEDALS/HANDBRAKE... - oh dear) Also used the stuff on the rubber mats, with the same result. "DOH!" I guess its a learning curve this car maintenance lark. :D

So how long did it take? I'd really like to get rid of mine too - but the separate stickers did put me off last time. Perhaps I could knock a letter off each weekend - choosing some humorous combination of letters to leave behind :D Answers on a postcard .......

This tinting of windows, is that an expensive process? And what does it involve?

Q.

Window tinting is best left to a specialist, they basically stick a film to the inside of your windows, except the windscreen of course.

I have some pics of tinted RS's on my website (see sig). Look for the silverstone meet in the meets gallery. Lou's Old Black RS had tinted windows, and also look at lloyds RS in the Silver RS Gallery.

Use the link to my website rather than the gallery, for some reason I missed the meets one off. Note to self must fix.

The dealer had got it done before I bought mine, as it was a demonstrator, think it cost about

Is that Penyghent?

penywhere? The background of mine? North yorkshire nr Hawes \ long preston.

Thanks for the pictures Tavia4x4 and mannyo. Shame that you can't have the windscreen done too. What is it like inside looking outside? Is it much darker than before or is it very subtle and hardly noticable? And this film, can you tell it is there, or is it so thin it feels and looks like it has been 'intergrated' into the glass?

Q.

Penyghent is the big fell behind Horton-in-Ribblesdale - one of the 3 peaks of Yorkshire. It has a characteristic notch in the profile - a bit like the fell behind your car in the first pic. Hence the question. Looks like you were not far away - it could be, or it might not.... I plan to retire to Hawes and drink beer outside the Crown every day til I die (inside in cold weather) - just as soon as I can save up enough to stop working :D

Well, I can't compare mine to before the tint, but it doesn't *feel* dark from inside, certainly not as black as from the outside!

Mine get darker towards the rear, most windows you cannot see in through!

Not noticable at all, apart from a "nick" on one of my rears, otherwise it looks like it's the glass itself. I can't see how he did mine without removing the glass, but I don't know if he did..

I am told they should remove it, the glass.

Two other options, are roadside treatment, might get dust and muck between panel and film, or sealed environment. Most apparantly are former, good folk are the latter. How to tell the difference, I don't know, ask em and each one will laugh at each other I suspect.

Just my limited 2p on it.

Just a suggestion but I have found liquid lighter fluid to be very effective at removing "stuff". It is great for removing the gunge left by stickers, greasy finger prints from places you don't want them...................unlike meths (hic..hic..) and white spirit which are often used as cleaning agents liquid lighter fuel does not leave a residue. It might work on the slippery pedals and even if it doesn't it smells nice............:p

By getting darker towards the rear do you mean gradually or do you mean window by window.

(I ask because I once saw this done on a Discovery & it looked fantastic - but I have been unable to locate anyone who is able to do it)

Thanks

Howabout a good old fashioned anagram instead?

It's a skoda, honest!

becomes:

Satan Sh!t Dose, OK?

window by window, but then I have 4 windows down the side, not quite so do-able on the hatch.

The front side windows are the legal limit, darker one by one from there, I've seen the "van" style jump to black windows and it's, umm, not for me.

I've thought about having mine tinted (after the lowering and hopefully some alloys at some point!) - was quoted by local pentagon glass people for

Just put a request for anagrams on an internet site - Looking forward to some amusing ones. I'd offer to try myself, but I'm crap! and that's that. I'll post the best offerings when I get them.

(isn't it strange how these threads seem to wander off the general thread subject onto something different? Myself to blame too, mind) :D

If you lot think I'm going to go to all the hard work of getting those letters OFF just to start sticking them back ON in a different order, think again! :nono:

Rather than using a knife to try and scrape them off how about the edge of a credit card? You wont damage the heater element with that.

Also for removing sticky residue I always use WD40, then polish clean after (it works its cheap and easy to apply and remove)

Cheers

I didn't think about the credit card, but I'm not sure that it would have been sharp enought to get under the stickers so that you could get an edge to start peeling it off... I think the knife thing was OK for me, although I did nearly cut myself a few times when I slipped a bit.

Didn't think about using WD40 either - use it all the time on my MTB, but never on the car. I think my rear windscreen is going to be the subject of chemical abuse this weekend :D. PS: the only chemical abuse I partake in, is the alcohol variety, nothing else! honest! :dtp:
