  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

Steve

Yep, looking good!

Its refreshing to see such thorough work also

Monkey boy, really impressed with your detail,

Am just about to paint my subframe and was going to use ....smootherite however decided am going to use POR 15 now, do you buy it from frosts, or do you know any decent suppliers?

I also have a modified 2ltr 16v in my mk2, its a great engine, just cant really get any more power out of its had pretty much everything done already (by oettinger), thats why i keep thinking.........20vt is the only way ahead, would it be a mistake???

  • Author

I used frosts for the POR 15 as there delivery is quick and normaly everything is in stock.

I did like the 20v for a bit of fun but all the people i know with 20v mk2's do have niggles but they are a pain to find. A lot of people are now using the mini cooper s eaton charger to charge 16v engines.

Fitted drivers side lower wishbone, ball joint. Painted drivers side drive shaft.

P1000798.jpg

Painted other wishbone.

P1000797.jpg

Cleaned up and prept steering rack. Pain in the **** to get the pas pipes out.

P1000799.jpg

Rack all painted.

P1000800.jpg

Need to get a pair of track rod ends tomorrow then rack can be fitted.

Is everything being installed with new hardware??

  • Author

Most will be new hardware as there a lot of parts that are original so past there best.

Got my track rod ends this morning so spent a bit of time rebuilding the front end.

P1000801.jpg

P1000802.jpg

Rack all mounted in place.

P1000803.jpg

P1000804.jpg

Painted the under side of the subframe as well.

P1000806.jpg

Fitted the back lights to enable me to align the new boot lid.

As of yesturday i may of taken a brave step to paint the car and do a lot of the body stuff myself  with the help of a friend.

Going to sort out the bad rust bits first then a couple of bits smoothed off and try my hand at spraying the bay. May need a load of paint so i can do it again and again

Car is now in my friends unit so i can start the prep on the bank holiday weekend. I will sort pics of the final bit as you may laugh at my first try's.

Brave step but I'm sure you'll have fun along the way. :)

Out of interest what compresor/spray gun you going to be using?

Good luck with it, hope it goes well

Steve

Good luck mate! I'm sure it'll turn out nice :D

Mates got a load of kit in the unit so going to have a go with that first.

i'll keep an eye on how you get on,i'mgoing to attempt to smooth the bay while the engine is out, this project looks awesome:thumbup:

  • Author

Cheers mate. No point smoothing the bay on a 16v with the ugly kjet system. May get sometime over the weekend to start on the bay.

get throttle bodies sorted then, they look ace on carbs or itb's,mines going 20v off to pick up the doner car next saturday:D

Already built a mk2 20v and to be honest much prefered the 2.0 16v that it replaced.

i just like obscene power:D my 16v was putting out 137bhp on the rollers so not much wrong with it till i pushed a little hard on the ring last month, and it just felt a little wheezy,so i sourced a 20v s3 lump and now can't wait to get it into the little mk2 will run it round standard till i get the niggles ironed out then see what extra smiles a re map will bring,i will be impressed if mine comes out of the garage half as good as this one tho, yours just looks proper mint:thumbup:

Got loads of bits delivered this week.

Polished stainless rocker cover bolt to go with this

P1000810.jpg

Set of mint rear 16v lights.

All my sound proofing ready for when i get the car back.

Corrado PAS pipes to enable me to relocate the reservoir.

Loads of little seals etc.

plus many more

Been looking at keys and removing the standard pneumatic central locking and now have these.

Complete central locking kit with 2 5 wire actuators and 2 2 wire actuators. Plans are to use both of the 5 wire motors in the front doors (get the bonus of being able to operate the central locking from the passenger door) one of the 2 wire actuators on the fuel filler flap and the other as a boot pop but the cool thing is this.

P1000809.jpg

It's a complete key and remote. Same as a mk4 golf key (even comes with a logo of your choice) but you can choose the key blanks and they do a mk2 blank.

Control box can be activated by an alarm and also has an output for auto closure so i may put one in at a later date.

Went to the lockup today to do a bit more on the golf.

Got quite a bit done.

Wiper hole all smoothed.

P1000812-1.jpg

Hole in sill from the metal going rusty inside the rubber seal all done.

P1000814-1.jpg

Windscreen frame repaired.

P1000813.jpg

Started to prep the boot area that was all scratched.

P1000815-1.jpg

Engine bay prep started. 4 holes for the alarm welded up and 4 holes for the PAS reservoir mount welded up.

P1000811-1.jpg

Also went to liverpool to drop of my steels for banding. Should have them back in 2 weeks.

Excellent work!

Banded steelies rock! Love the keys too. :)

Getting there but to many jobs to do and parts to sort out.

Decided to have a stealth ICE install using factory locations but all directly from my ipod so no head unit. Sorted all the cables i need and RCA level controller so i can adjust the volume with out touching the ipod

Steels should be done in two weeks. Gone for 8x15" on the front and 8.5x15" rear :D

I would seriously consider getting a head unit mate, you've got nothing to process the sound without it.
