  • I've got just the thing you need for your engine, looks like your inlet manifold is a 50mm jobbie. In which case, how about this to bling up the engine? Smoothed and chrome plated, very nice, wa

I would seriously consider getting a head unit mate, you've got nothing to process the sound without it.

I thought of that and have a plan. I have a ipod cable that has one pair of RCA's plus 12v + and - to charge the ipod. From the RCA's to the RCA level controller for volume adjustment. I do have a kenwood graphic equaliser that will convert the ipod RCA's into front, rear and sub plus mre adjustment than a standard head unit bass and treble. I can hide the ipod in the service document holder where it is now. Volume control is only small so easy to do. Graphic equaliser will be mounted in the standard stereo slot but further back so i can cover it with a stereo blank.

gilesk if you dont try you never know if your good at it

Ah, you've got an EQ - that's ok then!

Would have been hell to try and get a decent sound straight from the iPod!

Whats the motivation for ipod only? Security reasons?

Modern head units dont go with the mk2 dash. All the ones i want dont do green display, they are all red or blue. A lot of new head units are silver or grey not black.

I would have a nakamichi again but they dont do ipod or mp3 plus the radio's are poor.

This uses the same interface as the Apline CDA-I300 i had in and i would say it's poor at best. Far to many key presses needed and this is not good when your driving.

Not touched the car this week but got a couple of bits turn up for the stereo install.

Ipod proprietary output cable arrived from the USA. Enables me to put a 12v feed to it to charge the ipod plus RCA connection.

RCA level controller to act as a volume control as RCA output from ipod non adjustable.

Kicker Graphic equaliser is at PHILADELPHIA airport as £165 delivered in the UK £95 delivered from the states. This will give me the adjustment i need and also give me a front, rear and sub RCA output.

Tested the kit into the AUX input on the home amp and sounds spot on and volume adjuster works a treat.

Very interested to see/hear this audio solution working!

Got all the bits now apart from the amp and speakers.

Done a bit more bodywork but no pics yet. Hopefully have the bay painted over the weekend.

Got my wheels back from being banded tonight and looks like a good job but they do look wide lol.

Hopefully get them powder coated white next week.

How much did they cost if you don't mind me asking?

Wheels look awesome and when painted will no doubt look great, what tyres will you be putting on, size wise? Any stretch?

Banded steels are very cool..........

165/30's ;)

The steels were £142 new from VW in 6x15.

Banding was £220 for 2" band on the fronts and 2.5" bands on the rear with delivery as well.

Tyres wise going for 195/45/15 all round. Will be very slightly stretched on the rear just to get it under the arch.

Jesus! £220 for some welding!?

It's not just a simple weld though Babs. I think thats good money looking at the quality of welds

Still seems very steep!

He gets a local engineering company to make the bands as they are laser cut to make them spot on.

Widewheels.com charge over £400 to do this so yes he is cheap.

Wow! That's ridiculous!

Then again, it is the VW scene that want to pay £8,000,000 for a set of 20 year old 2-piece rims, just because of that little BBS badge

Who did you go to for yours?

Car should look superb with them on though

Banded steels are possibly the coolest thing ever... I wish someone would build a euro Octavia so I could see how good it'd look... Rather than me do it and it look crap! :D

Car is looking good mate, I can't wait to see it done :)

A friend of a friend did mine. Mainly does them for track and hill climb cars so knows his stuff.

Dont want to pay £1k+ for a set of split rims and not many places make staggered alloy wheel sets. Dont know why vw always seam to make the rears stick in but at least with these you can have them the width you want.

Car is now ready to start prep for paint. Both rear window seams repaired and windows test fitted. Hopefully may get it painted later in the week.

Woohoo :D

not the biggest fan of banded steels tbh,but the way you are sorting this car out i think this project may turn me

Great price that and as stated the quality of the work looks excellent.......
