Upgraded Sound System not performing very well

Featured Replies

Bose, Bang and Oulfsen and all the other premium manufacturers seem to be very poor at "proper" Low frequency bass reproduction... Sure the tweeters and mid range may be technically perfect but it's how the music is shaped and sounds that we all care about.

The upgraded BMW Business Pack with 4 speakers on the back shelf, 6.5 components and tweeters in the back door, components and two sets of tweeters in the front door and amplifers in the boot and under the driver seat may sound impressive on paper but the truth is that this system which I may not of described exactly but this is how I remember it is well a bit flat and nasty for the money and considering this 7 has double glazing I was anticipating more.

My Skoda Octavia on the other hand ;) Brillant....

Panasonic CQ9700U 70W x 4 Yes 70W x 4 from a headunit amp is impressive.

Pioneer 6.5'' Shallow Depth Front Components and Tweeters with Seperate Active Crossover....

Pioneer 5.25'' Speakers in the back shelf....

And two Blaupunkt underseat subwoofers.

Sounds lovely for such a cheap system ;)

And was probably cheaper and better sounding than many of these Premium factory upgrades....

The problem is for decent bass response you need a subwoofer and enclosure and i guess manufacturers are reluctant to fit them due to the trade off in space

Plus its all very well thinking of the ideal sounding system for the driver but the passengers need to be thought of as well and a subwoofer in the boot would make kids feel car sick pretty quickly

I found with my vRS and Passat, if you listen at any decent levels the treble becomes too much, disconnected the tweaters in the rear door handles that where blasting in my ears and made a huge improvement, set the balance towards the rear slightly and increased the bass,
