Fastest car you have seen use its power on the road?

Featured Replies

I've also come upto some lights to see a TVR Sagaris (?) snake away from them before I got chance to stop! That sounded nice...

Saw a TVR Sagaris at Tesco getting petrol a few years ago. Sounded like a volcano going off even when it was just quietly pulling away from the pump.

How do I make the octy sound like that?

Couple of years ago I was in a minibus full of lads and one lass. We were stopped at some traffic lights in preston when a Noble M12 pulled up along side us. The girl we were with said to me that it looked like a chaved up escort or something.:eek::eek: I wound down the window and told him what the girl had said and we both laughed. The light went green, he disappered in a nano secound...... she jsut said "holy Sh@t" indeed!!!! :D

Mine are both 911 related.

Probably the best one was seeing a RUF prepared 996 911 Turbo progress well alongside me, away from a set of lights onto a NSL dual carriageway. I left at normal speed as I knew what would happen! But knowing the road well, the length of time it took him to disappear into the distance was laughable. Sounded good too  - I thought at the time that it was the difference between a reasonably quick car, and a properly quick one...

Second one was my uncle taking me over to Germany when I was about 12 in his 996 911 Turbo (no RUF bits unfortunately) - on an unrestricted autobahn stretch slightly downhill at 180, had to come right off it as we saw a 3-Series move into lane 3 to overtake other traffic. But as ever in Germany, he was well aware of us gaining on him and moved quickly back in after his overtake. Then it was WoT back upto 180 again :D

I just entered onto the M69 from the M1 on my way to Bedworth in my Escort 1.8 si quite a few years ago. It was early one sunday morning & the M69 was empty, then an Aston Martin prototype with all the camaflage stickers came bombing past from nowhere. He slowed down to let me overtake & let me have a good peek. He then dropped quite far back & then bombed past again & did the same thing again. This went on for a fair few times. I didn't mind as the engine note when he came roaring past sounded gorgeous.

There was no way I was going to let myself be goaded into playing, so I stayed at the same speed throughout as I didn't want to show myself up:D

I was overtaken on the m62 near castleford by an audi RS4 and a Aston Martin V8 Vantage having a race.. that was something else!

change my mind it must be this!!!

Better still, looks like VW are joining FI.

My mate has a WRC spec scooby. I was driving his F355, stopped at some traffic lights and he Left me standing at the lights!

Mid 1990s, leaving Foxholes near the East Yorks/North Yorks boundary I remember a Volvo S40 T4 (yes I know it's nothing compared to most of the posts here) overtaking me and climbing up the steep hill (southbound) as if it was rocket powered.

It was the combination of the speed and the ease with which it devoured the long steep incline that left its mark.

A couple of years ago I was on the M1 north bound, Luton-ish, when a black SLK (AMG or Brabus type thing, couldnt tell, too fast) was racing a yellow Lambo Murcielago, I was flat out at 70 in a C reg micra when they blew past me sounding like fighter jets more than cars. It was a bit of a struggle when the micra started to slide sideways from their draft

This was at around 3 on a Sunday afternoon, Ill bet if Id been doing 85, a copper would have appeared behind me :(

The fastest Ive been in is my Brother in laws RS6 on the A12, I was offered a blast in the drivers seat but declined, lol. If I had had an accident..........

Stopped at a fuel station, my brother filling up his Picasso:rolleyes:, a black Audi R8

absolutely screaming it between the 'twin bridges roundabouts' in Bracknell,

sounds a bit sad but that noise has stayed with me. My brother didn't look as

I was pointing excitedly, he said he thought it was 'someone on a motorbike':rotz:

Nice dubbing job but sounds like a bike engine rather than an F1 or is it the rubbish sound quality:rofl::rofl:

Not had the pleasure of a ride in the Red Devil yet but heard it. This has to be the most mental (in a good way Des!) car I have ever come across. Been in Ferraris and Porsches but an Octy with 400 odd BHP:rolleyes:

Just been out in my mate's new "TOY". A new M5, all I can say is WOW. Plus he is getting a remap done on his missus SL 55 AMG. Can't wait for that.

Define "fastest".

Highest top speed would be a Lambourghini Countach 5000 (square arch, no side skirt model). I didn't see it flat out, but the owner did give it some beans so I could hear the glorious sound it made.

Fastest acceleration would be an works GpB Audi Quattro, driven by Stig Blomqvist.

Its a very rare occasion I have seen something like a lambo, ferarri etc where I live but when I have they have certainly not being going fast ! quite often see porsche's but just old crappy ones !

So the fastest car(s) I have seen use its power on the road would be a very heavily specced CTR (500+bhp I believe) and a corsa turbo which is about 450bhp I think !

Both more than capable of doing 160+ mph  blink and you have missed them !

Well i have now seen THE fastest car on the road use its power (Bugatti Veyron)

And boy was that a phenomenal sight

I'm quite envious. In fact I'm green. I haven't even seen a Veyron yet at all.

Wonder if there are any Canadian registered ones Dave? :rubchin:

This happened at my work last year but unfortuantely I was away in the US with the jet playing with the yanks. Most of my mates saw it and it was a sight to see apprantly.

I know this is off topic but check this out. That turbo is a bit on the large side as well.:eek:

  • 1 month later...

I have finally seen a powerful car worthy of posting in this thread.

Somewhere in or near London I was diverted through Rickmansworth on my way to Slough.

Behind my little Skoda was a Bentley. Not one these crappy footballers cars but something vintage from between the 1920s-1940s, open top.

Not entirely sure of the model but the traffic dissipated and it went past me with a blooming loud roar.

Lovely noise and i you could literally smell the fuel!!!

Shame I didn't get the model, or wave the driver.

You sure it was that old?!

It would put it somewhere along the lines of this:

Bentley_Convertible_6.jpg

well i got absolutley spanked the other day

following some geman guy in RS6 estate on the autobahn the other day over 155mph(sat nav speed, speedo was off the clock) then he pulled in to let me past so i gradually started to go past only for him to wave at me as i pulled alongside, and then precede to drive off like i was stationary.

his car lurched as he hit the accelerator. i thought I had him on his limiter but obviously he'd had it taken off.

i wouldnt be lying if i felt quite inadequate at that point.
