iphone is it worth it

Featured Replies

Thinking of getting one when my contract runs out soon, the question is are they worth it, shall i wait for the next one to come out or get something different all together. i like the idea of some of the apps, would be interested to know what battery life is like and any good deals going on at the moment.

cheers

I just got a HTC Touch HD. Fancied something different to the iphone.

It runs windows mobile so you can install apps that allow you to customize the OS. I'm impressed so far although its slightly complicated.

The iphone is good though. Depends what you want it to do really.

New iPhone is due, I believe with a much improved camera with video capability.

Depends what you want.

If you want to flash it around so everyone knows you have one, fine. IF you want a mobile that actually has tons of usefull features and a decent camera, that there are plenty of better offerings out there.

Question is what do you actually want/need your mobile to do?

I contemplated an iPhone for quite a few weeks. Then I decided on an HTC Diamond 2 but they appear to have manufacturing problems so would be months away from a proper solution.

In the cold light of day I ended up with a Nokia 6220 Classic. Cheap, enough toys and despite being Symbian works well enough with the Bluetooth car kit.

At the end of the day the Pie Phone would be around 100quid for an 8Gb followed by 18 months at 35 quid or 150 quid for a 16Gb.

I decided that a cool smartphone was just too dear for me.

Owning one, no I won't get another.

Sure it's fun for a while, but lacks some really basic things which are easilyt missed in store... e.g. forwarding of texts, copy and paste

Other devices have or are catching up, also more competitive air time deals too. ALso IMHO it only really works if your on mobile me and own a mac base. The one thing I do like is the mobile files, contact sync is almost immed and so on. Colleague is on linux and windows and of course gets zero benefit from that whole feature set.

I use mine as a second phone for personal use and it's terrific for some apps, email, web access, music, video and even texting but as a 'phone' it sucks imo, it feels far too cumbersome and battery life is shockingly bad if you actually use it to make calls!

As others have said, there are better phones available but for sheer pleasure to use with all the other features then it's great.

I resisted buying one for months but I'm glad I finally did - I use the apps more than I use it as a phone or an ipod, there's a wealth of free apps out there as well as reasonably priced paid apps.

I seem to find another use for it on an almost daily basis. From what I've read version 3 is out soon but if you bought version 2 you can upgrade to the version 3 software for free. I imagine prices for the current version will be falling further the closer to the version 3 launch date we get.

As Makefish say's battery life ain't that good if you use it a lot , but surfing the net for as long as you want without costing you a small fortune on top of you're bill is a bonus.V 3.0 is out soon allowing text forwarding, copy and paste ,picture messaging etc which most other phones already do so hurry up Apple . What it does it does well , mp3 side of it is so easy to use ,pictures are good for a 2 mega pixel camera thanks to a decent lens but obviously ain't as good as others with 8.0 mega pixel ones . Apps are impressive and there are plenty to chose from ,so its all down to budget , personal taste , and what you require from a phone ,(other than making calls) .:D

Since getting my iphone, my DS hasn't been turned on. It's a good little gaming machine, and a useful mp3 player, although the internal speakers aren't as good as the ones on my n95 were.

I have an iphone and think its fantastic :D

Battery life is ok really but depends how much you use it ? If you have "fetch new data" (push) switched on it will just eat the battery !

As also said, it doesnt have MMS, txt forwarding, copy and paste and bluetooth to connect to other phones, so if you can live without them then it should suit you fine :D

There is due to be a new iphone released v soon, june I believe ? O2 havent confirmed an exact date but have confirmed there to be a new one released :D

basically qt the moment i have a k850i which is crap, keeps crashing is held together by tape and since last September have waited and waited for a replacement to be sent out to me. My daily useage is probably 5-10 minutes of calls, use of bluetooth. internet, email and lots of texts and the camera for registering proof of visiting places for work (where 2mp would be fine). I have an ipod too and dont see myself putting the music onto the iphone. I do like the sony ericssons cos of their menus, but see alot more use for some of the app's on the iphone (gps, able to plot the route ive taken and googlemaps).

Cant really see anything else out there at the moment that makes me think i want one of them, not a great fan of nokia (not since the days of the 3310 and 3330). so any ideas would be good.

There are also plenty of apps on Nokia/symbian and Windows mobile devices. Many of the apps on the iphone are available on other devices as well.

If you text a lot, then you wont like any touch screen only devices. How about the combined touch and keyboard of the likes of the G1 and HTC?

I have Yahoo and Google mail apps on the N96 as well as lots of music and cool apps.

Well, I love my iphone 3g, does everything I want and more, games are great, and I spend a lot of time bumming around in airports waiting for flights, movies on the bright wide screen are great, it makes and takes calls. Cydia has loads of great free apps as well as the app store, it takes 10 minutes to jailbreak, OS 3.0 is coming with MMS / cut and paste (PS there are free cut and past and MMS apps)

tied into my parrot system, it charges, and allows control of the iphone from the remote, there are several apps to allow the recording of video (ok without audio though) I have no problem with battery life, I just errrm ... charge it when I need to. I dislike apple as a company but they have got a terrific product in the iphone.

There are some useful work apps to, sapien technology (creators of powershell) have a free powershell app showing all cmdlets and syntax (useful for anyone with exchange 2007 / scom or w2k8) and exchange active sync works well.

I almost forgot ..... I can make phone calls with it to .... gets my vote.

I can't text with iphones, they are horrendous! Just got a G1 for sh1ts and giggles, still quicker texting with a normal phone keypad, but at least this has a choice of button or touch screen and has endless amounts of apps. it's like having a little computer in my pocket :)

Also, pie-phone is stupidly expensive with a crap tariff

I have an iPhone and here is my Tuppence worth

Firstly you can get both 8GB and 16GB for free

I got a 16GB 3G on a £44 a month contract free. I get 1200 mins, 500 texts and unlimited internet. The good thing with O2 is that there is no "fair use" policy like Voda that i was on before. If the battery would allow it i could make one 1200 min call and it would be free. I wouldn't have to hang up before an hour and ring back. The internet is exactly what it says as well unlimited no 50mb cap etc.

As a general phone i think its brilliant. Call quality is fantastic and bluetooth quality is just as good.

Battery - well at first i thought it was carp. however i then found a few things i could do to extend it and now i can usually get around 3 days from it before charging it.

Camera - well yes its only 2 megapixel. but i have had 2 x 5.0 megapixel phones (K850i & C902) and to be honest i have never used the camera for anything more than a quick snap of something funny at a party etc. Why people bang on about cameras on phones to me is Daft. I have a Lumix TZ6 for taking pics with

IMHO it is a brilliant phone and once OS3.0 comes out it will be even better. Although i dont use MMS so wont be too fussed about that edition

cheers all, i might just wait to see what the new iphone has to offer when it comes out and see what others are about at that point too.

The good thing with O2 is that there is no "fair use" policy

Read the small print !

A fair usage policy applies to the internet on the iphone

Well i have downloaded **** loads and never been billed for web use

i have the 3g and didnt think id like it but i was surprised by it. had it for nearly 10 month and am not getting bored of it which is unlike me. regarding a new iphone coming out, i dont think that will be for a while as apple in a few months are releasing a massive update for the iphone.

re the mms there is a free app in the app store which allows you to be able to send/recive pics and i know this as i have it.

the camera may only be 2mp but it is in my opinion very good.

the only thing that pee's me off is the fact you cant install your own software like you can on windows mobile. and after owning 3 phones with windows os on that was the biggest shock i had when i got it!

but to cut a long story short, id recomend one to my nan.

i have an iphone 8gb and find it far easier to text with

predictive text for me is good and easy to use

menue system beats the n95 hands down (can never find what i want on it )

as for batery power it needs charged every second day which is its only real drawback

I almost forgot ..... I can make phone calls with it to .... gets my vote.

But your spelling is crap on it :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Had an 8gb one since the day they came out, does everything I want it to do, connects to my Parrot and ideal on holiday to take games, videos and music. Battery life not a great problem as long as you remember to charge regualary. So intuitive to use as well.

Loz said she didn't like the texting but I find it very easy with QWERTY keyboard - cant do texts on 'normal' mobiles.

Well i have downloaded **** loads and never been billed for web use

I did 13GB of data on mine over the last month using PDAnet to tether it to the MacBook and 9GB the month before, O2 have not gotten a sad on with me yet. I always to get around 5GB per month as a minimum and no "knuckle rapping" or moaning letters.

That said, T-Mobile are still my favourite company as their business support is excellent, O2's can be a little ropey for small business but no where near as bad as the support a private user gets.

But your spelling is crap on it :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Indeed it is LOL, as you have recieved some odd messages from me, I once sent an SMS to a mate in Germany, Herwig was most surprised to see I would be on holocaust for a week and planned a visit over. It does make some odd choices sometimes :) but I don't do texting as a rule and hate with a passion SMS speak:)
